Low Information People Who Become Fools

March 2, 2013 at 2:44 PM 5 comments

I’m concerned about something that is affecting America.  Low-information people.  You’ve probably heard the term before with reference to voters.  These are folks who don’t have the real facts and because of that, cannot comprehend the reality of the situation.

Ever since the Sandy Hook situation, people have over-reacted regarding situations that involve guns.  I read recently that a 7-year-old student was suspended for carving his breakfast into a shape that somewhat resembled a gun. [1]  The teacher who saw him do it got “mad” at him.  Look, we all know how dangerous strawberry tarts can be once they have been modeled to look like guns!

I have to wonder what was going on in that teacher’s brain at the time?  The kid has probably seen a thousand shows and movies in which guns are used and like most young boys sees them as part of our culture.  But apparently, you cannot talk about guns and you certainly cannot create one out of a strawberry tart!  That is verboten!

But in a situation that I find even more astounding, three teenagers made a split-second decision that likely saved the life of another student.  They were all riding home on a bus and the three teens noticed that another teen had a revolver out and was pointing it at another student.  Fearing for that other student’s life, they tackled the gun-wielding student, saving the student who appeared to be the intended target.  So, what did they get for their trouble?  A suspension.

In fact, the principal at Cypress Lake High School issued an emergency suspension because the students who wound up removing the danger by tackling the student with the gun were seen as actually being involved in the situation that included use of a weapon. [2]

Let me recap that again.  Three students, who likely saved the life of another student, were suspended by the principal of Cypress Lake High School because they were seen as being involved in the situation involving a weapon.  The student who was actually wielding the weapon has been charged with “aggravated assault with a deadly weapon ‘without intent’ to kill.” [3]

I have a couple of questions…

  1. Why were the students suspended at all?  Well, apparently, according to one district spokesman, “If there is a potentially dangerous situation, Florida law allows the principal to suspend a student immediately pending a hearing.” [4]

It appears as though the principal decided that the broad meaning of this law means that even if a student is attempting to save the life of another person from being killed by someone who has a gun (most likely, in this case, illegally), then they are “involved” in the situation and therefore should be suspended.

  2. Why was the student who possessed the gun only charged with aggravated assault without intent to kill?  According to law enforcement, the gun was loaded.  That means that had the perpetrator pulled the trigger, a bullet would have exited the gun and into the intended victim.  How is it that law enforcement decided that the perpetrator had no intention of killing the intended victim?  “The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and that the charges are ‘based on our findings at this time’.” [5]

Findings?  Okay, let me get this straight.  A teenager is on the school bus with a loaded revolver.  He points the loaded revolver at another student and appears as though he is going to shoot that student.  Three other students get involved for the purpose of removing the gun and reducing the threat.

They are suspended and the perpetrator is charged merely with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, even though the gun was LOADED.  Does that sum it up?

Okay, so who are the low-information people in the above scenario?  The first one to me is obvious.  The teacher who got “mad” at the young boy for carving what appeared to her to be a gun out of his strawberry tart is definitely a low-information educator.

In the second scenario, it would appear as though the principal and the law enforcement officers involved in the situation are also low-information people.  What other facts do they need in order to carry out true justice and reward those who were heroic in the situation?

Has the world gone mad?  It appears as if that is the case.  Three high school kids do something good and they are punished for it.  Yet, even the Department of Homeland Security says we should be ready for a gun fight with scissors.  Maybe that’s the problem.  If the three students had scissors instead of nothing, they would not have appeared to be on the same side as the student with the gun, in spite of the fact that they were trying to remove the gun from him.

You know, when the apostle Paul told Timothy that there would be terrible times during the last days (cf. 2 Timothy 3:1ff), I did not realize he meant as part of that situation, people would become complete morons in the process!  If you stop to think about it, the reliance on being so politically correct has created people who cannot think their way out of a wet paper bag.

This rush to quell everything and anything that has to do with guns is absurd.  There is absolutely no common sense related to it anymore.  People simply want them banned.  They want kids to stop drawing them and carving them out of things they eat.  They want to pretend that all guns, all the time, are terribly bad, no exceptions.

However, just last week Gov. Cuomo of New York stated that Hollywood would not be held to the same standard as everyone else in NY was going to be due to the new hastily passed law in that state.  Hollywood producers and filmmakers would still be able to use real weapons (with blanks) on the set when filming in New York.

What is the matter with these people?  Why is it okay to produce movie after movie, TV series after TV series where characters use guns at every turn, yet we are supposed to deny that there is any type of negative impact on our culture?  Again, why has common sense been tossed out?  In this case, it has to do with the billions of dollars in revenue that NY state rakes in because of all the business that Hollywood does with that state.

It’s always about the money, whether people want to admit it or not.  Again, I’ll say it.  If the medical profession was able to “prove” that smoking and cigarette products in movies and TV (as well as video games) accounts for at least half of the young smokers, then why does this not translate to all the violence in those same venues, especially gun-related violence?  Again, it makes no sense that we can prove smoking negatively impacts viewers but neither violence, sex, or the use of guns supposedly has any effect on those same viewers?  Absurd.

So, we’ll just leave Hollywood alone, right, because after all, look at how much money they pour into communities.  Look at all the jobs they create.  Leave Hollywood alone.  Don’t even think to tell them that they should tone down the violence in the programming they create.  How dare we do that because it’s an art form and artists need to be left along to create.  Except when those artists want to create something where smoking or smoking products are featured.  Then, we need to tone that down because the medical profession has proved that it sends the wrong message to viewers, with at least half of them deciding to take up the habit of smoking because of it.

No wonder our society is screwed up!  Years ago, it was unheard of to see any form of nudity on TV.  Swearing was exceedingly rare, but over time, that changed.  About 20 to 25 years ago, swearing debuted and now look what we hear on TV.

Shows like NYPD Blue also helped introduce viewers to nudity as well as swearing.  For years, producers have argued that they can’t compete with pay channels like HBO unless restrictions loosened up.  So what happened?  Restrictions loosened up.

Before anyone misses my point, let me restate it.  If we can prove that smoking negatively impacts people in society, then why does it not stand to reason that violence, nudity, and excessive gun violence can do the same?  Do we really need to have studies on this in order to prove the connection?  I’ve read of women’s groups getting on Hollywood about the constant portrayal of women as weak and submissive, or as simply sex objects.  So what happened?  Hollywood responded by creating women’s characters who could kick butt!  They can be as bad as their male counterparts.  But I thought stereotypes have no negative impact on viewers?  That’s not what the medical profession or certain women’s groups believe.

In fact, it is also clear that gay and lesbian groups believe that to constantly have shows, movies, games (or comic books) in which gay and lesbian characters are absent is not a good thing for gays and lesbians.  They want to be seen as normal, so how can they make that happen?  By ensuring that gay and lesbian characters are increasingly portrayed in TV shows, movies, video games, and comic books.  Obviously, the reality is that viewers are effected by what we see in so many productions coming out of Hollywood, for good or bad, aren’t we?

These productions do fix or even change our thinking, don’t they?  Please don’t tell me that watching movies, TV shows, cartoons, video games, or reading comic books has no ability to affect the way people think and act.  I don’t buy it and neither should you.  We are force-fed whatever Hollywood wants to ram down our throats.  The media – even news bureaus, such as they are – do the dirty work of creating images that we take to heart.  They present ways to think.  They do their level best to override how we think and how they want to portray things in society.

What is the point of advertising if the ads themselves have no effect on viewers?  Smart advertisers pay big bucks for what is known as product placement in Sitcoms, episodic drama, movies, video games, and the rest.  They know the score while the “experts” try to tell us the exact opposite.  Have you bought the lie?

Years ago, the good guy was the good guy.  He rarely used his gun, but when he did, it was to take down the bad guy.  Over the years since that time, the terms “good guy” and “bad guy” have, in some ways, become synonymous.  They are exchangeable, depending upon the situation.  We can have a good cop who goes rogue, but it’s “okay” because he’s still going after bad guys, though he becomes judge, jury, and executioner.

Society has become pitiful.  The complete loss of common sense is a real concern.  People don’t even see it.  They fail to understand that they can’t even make good decisions today because they are blinded by the inconsistencies created by their own PC thinking.  It’s tragic.  Very tragic indeed.

Paul stated it perfectly.  “People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power,” (2 Timothy 3:1-6a).

If you stop to seriously consider it, we know a lot of those things are created by people’s own tendency to be completely self-serving.  However, some of those things are created due to an absolute loss of common sense and the ability to think rationally.  This is due to an overexposure to politically correct thinking.  It is so absurd, yet it persists throughout our society.

It is the same type of thinking that causes people to believe that banning guns will create a safer society, in spite of the fact that banning guns will only have any effect on law-abiding citizens, both coming and going.  There is no common sense in play here.  It is all based on emotional tyranny and most of it is from the people who fail to think rationally; the low-information person.

Whether it’s Maxine Waters stating that sequestration will destroy 170 million jobs, Nancy Pelosi stating that we will lose 500 million jobs per month, some poor 7-year-old kid receiving a suspension notice for crafting what appears to be a gun to some low-information teacher, or three heroes who saved the life of another student, but get suspended in the process, the fact is that people are dumbing themselves down due to their thinking.  It is completely unnatural.  God created people as intelligent beings, yet, so much of what passes for “intelligence” these days is nothing more than stupidity that’s classified as politically correct thinking.  This type of “thinking” makes little to no sense at all, yet it is treated as though it is informed, intelligent, wise, and much more.

It’s not!  It’s garbage and only caters to the drivel spouted by those on the Left who are doing everything they can to resist God and His sovereignty.  Unfortunately, even for them, they will one day, acknowledge His sovereignty even though they will be forced to do so. Their continued resistance is really futile.

There is absolutely nothing more tragic than watching an entire society turn into low-information people and do so by choice.  I’m not a genius.  There are tons of people smarter than me.  Yet, I can see what’s happening, not just in America, but throughout the world.

What are we left with then?  Again, we defer to the apostle Paul, who could not have said it better when he so eloquently stated in Romans 1:22 the following words.  “Professing to be wise, they became fools.”

That is probably the most tragic part of the whole thing.  The teacher who got angry at the 7-year-old boy, the principal who opted to suspend three students for saving the life of another student, or anyone else who is held hostage by politically correct subterfuge, actually believe that they are wise or intelligent people!  Unfortunately, in the end, they are anything but that.

I pray that God will open their eyes, if for no other reason than they will realize their spiritual need for Him and His salvation.  If He does not open their eyes, they will never be able to see the salvation message clearly, nor will they be able to receive it for themselves.

Certainly, God wants that for them.  Are they willing to see the truth about themselves in order to receive the only salvation that can actually save them?  Certainly, God wants that.

Let’s pray that He makes it so.

How to confuse a generation! Disciplined for doing good deeds and hand slapping for doing evil deeds. I watched a movie with young people in it and it was amazing to see the lack of street smarts and awareness of what was going on around them. Our generation of the 50’s and 60’s was very street smart. I had a hard time watching the stupidity. I don’t think it was all the director or producers intent. The young actors were just being “normal”. I feel bad for women from ether left or right, as Hollywood and writers have portrayed them as submissive, weak and dumb in the past then 180 turn to being mass murderers and super kick butt heros, that like you said mirror the male counterpart. Nudity in other counties has been on the table for a long long time. It has just been a short while and now America is fitting into the same world shoe. The TV and movies of the last 30 years or so remind me of Zappa’s words, “Have you guessed me yet”? “I’m the slime oozing out from your TV set” The rest of the song states that the government and corporations are in control of all!
Think about how a child is a sponge and soaks up everything around them. The negative mind sets of their parents and the TV on 24/7 along with movies, books, comics and seemingly innocent children’s TV shows. Adults can be just as susceptible. Read the book by Charlotte Iserbyt and if you do write about the deliberate dumbing down of America, you may want to use another title since there are a few on the list in Amazon. Yes this nation is becoming a FOOL! Especially it’s leaders.
I’m still of the opinion that there is just a remnant that is in Christ and Christ in them! What can we do? Crank up the prayers and draw very close to the Lord while speaking up, making people aware and wake them up!

We are truly seeing evil called good and good called evil in more and more areas of life now. Favorite American pasttime for low information people is the demonizing of something good for a civil society.

Absolutely! Thanks for the link, Sherry. Very interesting to watch the video of that teacher resigning. That led me to a book called “Deliberate Dumbing Down of America,” some of which I will be able to reference in the new book I’m currently working on called “The Falling Away.”

      Thanks again, Sherry.
