Fear God and Live

I’ve posted a new Short Takes over at SermonAudio.com/studygrowknow

The subject is fearing the Lord, something that I believe too many Christians (including me), fail at miserably. It happens because we do not focus on our obligation to fear Him because we are often too focused on His mercy, love, and grace. While those things are clearly important, without balancing things out with a healthy profound reverential awe and respect for Him, we become one-sided and truly off balance.

Solomon said, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecc 12:13 KJV)

    Hello Dr. DeRuvo,

Well said. I don’t know if I already sent you this article or not but this write-up by Hal Lindsey at the bottom of this message resonates with your articles on the proper (and quite necessary) fear of the Lord. A proper fear that goes well beyond petty and mere conventions and motions of this world. Awe and reverence may be the heart of it but not the least of it. Heart surgery is much needed as shifting our focus (time and energy) away from the Babylonian world system solely on the Lord here on out will result in painful withdrawals and withdrawal symptoms. Being tied down to this world (the cancer it is in sin, sadly) takes me to Matthew 5:29-30. Separating ourselves. Sure I have known/understood this for some time but have not instilled it in my life fully nor believed it entirely or completely in practice. Nor will I do so fully or completely until I am glorified, of course. As long as I remain in the world I will always far short of the mark. I long for that day when sin is so far removed from my life as the east is from the west that there is absolutely no remembrance of any of it (sin). Completely removed. Being a double agent Christian proves difficult with our dual citizenship of present earth and future heaven. Not practicing what I have preached by holding on to this world still — looking back to Egypt, whatever it may it be. We certainly know the valuable lesson from Lot’s Wife but yet still we hang on even to this present world. We are certainly living on borrowed time these days as this world and world system as we know it will soon draw to a close. We direct our focus and attention to the true and real Rock of our Salvation. Amen! Revelation 22:20! I will listen to your Short Takes at Sermon Audio. Thank you for a much needed topic. God bless you.

Thx Eric. I need this as much as every other Christian. We need to lift one another up.
