Knowing God’s Will: The Rest of the Story

Waltke says that to know God’s will, sometimes, we must seek the counsel of other Christians. He notes that when he has done this, it is almost as though the Lord has prepared the other person’s heart for the meeting. Waltke is not saying (like those in the signs and wonders movement), that you seek the counsel of another Christian so that they can give you a “prophetic word” or “word of knowledge.” Sometimes, simply having another mature Christian provide their biblical opinion helps to flesh out God’s will for us. We should all have someone we can go to for wise, biblical counsel. If nothing else, they can hear us and pray for us.

Knowing God’s Will: Living It!

God’s clearly wants Christians to be loving, especially to one another. How often is the exact opposite of this on display to the world? God wants us to refrain from all forms of sexual immorality. God wants us to no longer lie, cheat, steal, or commit other crimes. If we are not faithful in obeying these things, how can anyone think God would be willing to live other aspects of His will in and through us? It won’t happen.

Knowing God’s Will: What Every Christian Needs to Know

It should come as no surprise that Walthe’s first point is that Christians must read the Bible and this should be done on a daily basis. We should read it, study it, meditate on it, and memorize it. Doing all of this will bring us closer to God since His Word is “…living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart,” (Hebrews 4:12 ESV).

Knowing God’s Will: A Better Way than Signs and Wonders

It is very easy to forget that God’s Word is living. It is active. It is not simply a collection of stories or words on a few thousand pages. It is God’s revelation to us about Himself and His plans for this world. Because God is alive, living, and powerful, so is His Word. How we understand God’s Word has a direct impact on us, our lives, and our spiritual growth in Christ. If we have erroneous theology (as exists within much of the signs and wonders arena), our lives will be negatively impacted and not only will we will not take on more of the character of Christ, but we will do great spiritual harm to ourselves and possibly others.

Identify Politics Finding Its Way into Church

Jesus was not worried about identity politics. His job was to reach out to the lost sheep of Israel because of their high calling to be a light to all nations. God’s plan of redemption was clearly delineated in Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. All who will come to Him may do so if they want salvation. It does not matter their gender, their culture, or their station in life. Salvation is freely given to all who come in faith.

God’s Simple Plan of Salvation

God has a solution so that we can avoid His wrath in eternity. The solution involved someone living a perfect life – never sinning, ever – then offering himself as an atonement for the sins of the world for all who will place their faith in that Person. This is what the entire Mosaic sacrificial system is all about. It points to Jesus who paid the sin price once for all, then after He rose from the dead, He sat down at the right hand of the Father in heaven (Hebrews 12:1-2). Jesus was done, unlike the continuous sacrifices that would need to be offered under the Mosaic law.

Rather than choose a human being to try to live perfectly, God opted to volunteer for that role Himself. This He did in the second Person of the Godhead, Jesus. Jesus, born of a woman (ensuring humanity), yet without sin (God kept the sin nature from being given to Jesus) throughout His entire life, always submitting to the Father ultimately laying down His life for yours and mine. This is the foundational belief. This is where it starts.

Nothing Can Stop What’s Coming?

I do not know what the outcome of this election will be. I do know that it will be what God allows to happen. That is simply truth as we understand from Scripture. If Trump is not re-elected and Biden does officially claim the win, then that is nothing short of God’s will. Can we say that it is not? How can God not be in control? How could that even possibly occur? It cannot.

Trusting the Lord in Dark Times

Recall the apostle Paul stated that “we are not unaware of Satan’s schemes so that he should outwit us,” (2 Cor 2:11). That is truth, like the rest of Scripture! Truth that changes our focus. Paul was saying that he had come to understand the many ways that Satan attempted to outwit or overcome Paul and those he traveled with and because of Paul’s understanding he was able to look beyond the schemes to see God in the process.

False Teachers and Prophets, Part 6

So those within the Word of Faith movement have their idea about how to get God working for you (they call that His “revealed will”), but the Bible seems to say something completely different and this difference is proven by the lifestyle of Jesus Himself. Remember, Jesus had no place to lay His head, meaning He had no permanent home (Luke 9:58).
