Obama Surprised by Political Fallout of Healthcare

See if you can follow this. First, regarding the health care package and passing it, President Obama says “I made the decision to go ahead and do it, and it proved as costly politically as we expected…” [1] Then he says, “…probably actually a little more costly than we expected, politically.” [2]
It seems to me that he is saying that he was well aware of the political fallout that would occur from the passage of the health care package, but that it was a necessary evil. In other words, the fact that the Democrats lost the House to the Republicans is something President Obama expected? That makes little sense, but if that’s what he meant, then it also seems as though he was willing to throw members of his own political party under the bus for the sake of a health care package that will cost TRILLIONS of dollars in additional taxes.
Following that statement up with “…probably actually a little more costly than we expected, politically” seems only to say that while he anticipated big fallout resulting in political losses in Congress, the actual results were a bit more than “we” (he and his administration) anticipated.
He follows up these comments with more blame heaped on the Republicans. “‘I couldn’t get the kind of cooperation from Republicans that I had hoped for,’ he said. ‘And that was costly, partly because it created the kind of partisanship and bickering that really turn people off‘.” [3]
But if we consider the reality of the situation, it was patently clear that President Obama had absolutely no interest in listening to the Republicans at all. He acts as if everything was fine except for the Republicans and conservatives.
The more I read the article on MSNBC, the more interesting it becomes, if for no other reason that President Obama seems to be completely unable to see what the real problem is – his failure to understand. Proof of this is found in these statements he made at the end of the article:
“‘But I think that in terms of how I operated on a day-to-day basis, when you’ve got a series of choices to make — I think that there are times where we said let’s just get it done instead of worrying about how we’re getting it done,’ he said. ‘And I think that’s a problem. I’m paying a political price for that‘.” [4]
In spite of everything, President Obama either does not see, or refuses to acknowledge that over 70% of the American people did NOT want his health care package. It was not HOW he and his administration was getting it done. It was that they were working to get it done in spite of the overwhelming will of the people. He simply does not get it, but that is what happens when a person is so narcissistic that it blinds him/her to reality.
Just because President Obama believes he can put a “positive” spin on this current situation, does not mean that it IS positive. While President Obama believes that everything will work out, it will only do so if the right policies and actions are established. The economy will not fix itself and as long as we have a president who believes that he did the best for this country, in spite of the fact that he has done what may well be irreparable damage to the United States, nothing will ever improve.
As I said earlier, God is in charge and according to Scripture, the world needs to come to a point where accepting one individual to rule the world is made easy by the terrible conditions the world faces. Those terrible conditions cannot happen overnight, although the results of a number of years of terrible leadership coupled with terrible decisions can catapult this world to a point of no return where the Antichrist steps onto the world’s stage, offering answers to problems that seemed insurmountable. He will do this by offering a sideshow of fake miracles, signs, and wonders. Who but those who are not deceived will be able to resist his charm, his intelligence, and his charisma?
The situation continues to unfold. Who will be that person who steps onto the world’s stage with the world becoming so impressed by his razzle dazzle that they are unable to do anything BUT follow him? We are certainly heading there without doubt.
In the meantime, what do Christians do? We continue to trust God and, we continue to do what’s right in our society, and we continue to witness to the lost. While there is coming a time of great tribulation, there is also a growing time of great repentance. Revelation tells us that multitudes will come out of the Tribulation whose robes have been washed in the blood of Jesus. In other words, there will be plenty during the coming days who will wind up being martyred for their faith and the number will be so large, that as John says, no man can number it.
Christians are to be living witnesses for our Lord in good times, and in bad. It is the bad times when people usually begin to realize that they need God. It is during those times that Christians must continue to tell the world about the grace and forgiveness found only in Jesus Christ. We must not shrink from the Great Commission. Though we should rightly be concerned about what is happening in our world and in this country, we must not be sidetracked by the politics of the day.
