What the Federal Gov’t Does Not Seem to Understand…

The Federal Gov’t, currently under President Obama’s administration, continues to push its agenda against individual states. However, if we read the U.S. Constitution (something many in our government prefer that we do not read), it becomes clear that the states are the ones that have sovereignty and the Federal Gov’t was actually put into place to support that sovereignty.
All one needs to do is read the 10th Amendment to learn of this little tidbit. Of course, there has been a great deal written about this and other amendments and parts of the U.S. Constitution. In fact, there are many in our current government (including President Obama) who believe that it is impossible to accurately interpret the U.S. Constitution. Well, if that is true, then we should toss it and start over, right? That is what folks would like us to think.
Fortunately for us, there are books out by people who are considered to be absolute experts in the meaning of the U.S. Constitution and they have written some great book on the subject. One in particular I’d like to recommend is The Original Constitution: What it Actually Said and Meant (Volume 1) by Robert G. Natelson. It is available through Amazon for roughly one ten spot. Another book that everyone should have is the actual U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Too many of us are unaware of the actual rights we possess. We live under the delusion that the government would never attempt to take our rights away from us. Of course, this is simply not true and the best way to ensure that this does not happen is to know your rights.
But – someone might argue – as a Christian, are we supposed to demand our rights? Isn’t that a wrong approach?
To answer that, let’s look at a section in the book of Acts where Paul demanded his rights as a Roman citizen. He did so politely in Acts 22, where we read these words from Acts 22:25-26 –
“And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood by, ‘Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and uncondemned?’ When the centurion heard that, he went and told the commander, saying, ‘Take care what you do, for this man is a Roman’.”
It is clear that in this case, being a Roman citizen helped Paul. There was certainly a way to treat him even in prison that was commensurate with his Roman citizenship.
As a Christian and American, I want to know the rights that I possess under the U.S. Constitution. I want to be able to exercise those rights as well and I want to know when the government is doing something that is illegal. Knowing my rights is the first step. Stating them politely, without malice is the next. Even though authorities – for one reason or another – may continue doing what they are doing, they will certainly become aware that you are a person who knows your rights and that they should tread carefully.
If you do not know your rights, then how can you possibly know when the government is doing something wrong? In the case of our government, there are any number of things that it is alleged to have done illegally and not simply with our current president.
We know about Watergate and other situations that brought presidents and other lawmakers down. In today’s world, we have a president who has allegedly stated (when he taught law) that the U.S. Constitution cannot be understood as it was originally meant. If so, then a case can be built to either modify it until it doesn’t even look like the original document, or scrap the document and start over.
There is a good case for charging that our current government, under the leadership of President Obama’s administration, has completely overstepped the boundaries provided for the Federal government within the Constitution. The Federal government is there to support the sovereignty of the individual states, not necessarily dictate TO those states.
The original framers of the U.S. Constitution did not intend for the Federal government to usurp the power of the state, yet that is exactly what has happened. Unfortunately, because that is not only not stopping, but in fact, speeding up every time our government gets larger, more and more people are going to stand in opposition to the Federal government.
For instance, with respect to the lawsuit brought on by the Federal government against Arizona, I’m quite certain that our Founding Fathers would be rolling over in their graves if they were aware of the situation. This is especially true given the fact that Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution clearly states:
“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”
If this is true, then it would seem that the Federal government, far from suing Arizona, should be doing everything it can to protect Arizona. Yet as we know, President Obama’s administration is doing anything but protecting Arizona.
President Obama has not only sued Arizona, but has filed a report with the U.N. allegeding human rights violations in this United States. Now, why would any president of the United States do that unless he was overstepping his bounds as Officer in Chief? He obviously believes that he works for the U.N. and other countries, but not for the U.S. taxpayer.
There are many examples of how President Obama has skirted the law and they have all been catalogued and published by others. Neither Obama or the courts seem to notice, so intent are they on handing over the United States’ sovereignty to other powers.
Wherever Obama goes, either he or his wife are violating protocol, but it doesn’t seem to matter. They do things their way and that’s the way it is whether anyone likes it or not.
As long as President Obama is president, I seriously doubt that we will see things change, where power is restored to the individual states. I see President Obama doing what he can to grab more power still and as long as he has Federal judges and the Supreme Court willing to back him, he is fine, even though the majority of the people in the United States do not back him or his actions.
Sovereignty needs to be returned to the states and until it is, individuals need to be aware of their rights in this sovereign nation. To not know your rights and to complain about perceived wrongs of the Federal government serves no purpose and will certainly not correct anything.
If more people knew their rights (not just “freedom of speech” and “freedom of expression”), and were willing to stand up for them, we might begin to see a Federal government treading far more lightly, knowing that they can get away with far less than they have been.
It’s up to you to know your rights and to express them without anger or malice. Knowing your rights, speaking your rights, and living your rights allows you to begin to actually change things. Anything less means we are slaves to the Federal government.
