Crash Course in Hebrews, Pt 1
The book of Hebrews contains warnings to its readers in Hebrews 2, 4, 6, 10 and 12. It is extremely easy to miss the point of the warnings by taking from them meaning that doesn’t belong if people fail to comprehend the background and context of the situation. I don’t have time or space to go over each chapter and every verse. Suffice it to say that Hebrews opens with the writer expressing the fact that Jesus is supreme and His supremacy is over all things and all religious systems, including the Mosaic sacrificial system. This point is brought out in various ways throughout Hebrews and we need to take note of it.
What Rest Do Christians Enter Into?
Too often, the living out of our righteousness (sanctification) falls woefully short of our positional righteousness (justification). Christians who are not careful about living righteously will be led astray into rebellion, then apostasy if continued. It often happens in small increments, but can also happen with one huge push of disobedience on our part.
Is Salvation a Sure Thing or Dependent Upon Us? Part 5
If we were to simply leave it there, we would be very tempted to think that the writer of Hebrews is referring to salvation and if we are not careful, we will lose that salvation through an “unbelieving heart.” In fact, this verse (among others) is often used as a proof-text to show that salvation can be lost. I do not believe this is the case and if we take the time to strongly consider the context, which we must do, then we will all arrive to that very same conclusion. The question to ask is whether or not the writer of Hebrews is speaking of our salvation beginning with Hebrews 3:12 or something else entirely?
