Does California Need Dr. Ami Bera?

In this particular political age, it is very common for candidates to simply point out what they believe to be the flaws in other candidates. That tells me nothing because I already know what I don’t like or appreciate about other candidates. What actually bothers me MORE is when I see an ad by a candidate who essentially says NOTHING about their own political ambitions and beliefs.
Dr. Ami Bera seems to be one such individual currently running against for Dan Lundgren’s Senate seat in the California Legislature. The problem is that Bera’s ads say absolutely NOTHING about what he will DO, or what he personally BELIEVES. This is frustrating and of course, when a candidate does that, it makes me very suspicious. Of course, Bera is not the only candidate who does that. The individuals running for the Governor of California are doing the same thing, as are most other politicians. The truth is that I have yet to see an ad where someone actually takes the time to tell me what they will specifically do to correct the problems that exist in California’s economy, for instance. They are too busy tossing dirt and mud all over their opponent.
Who is Dr. Ami Bera? Until I heard his name, I had no clue. In fact, it is obvious that there is serious money backing him and his campaign because of his televised ads during prime time. So, what to do? I guess since Bera won’t disclosed to us the information we need in his ads, then it is up to me to search out the information myself…if it’s available.
Fortunately, as soon as I started researching things, I realized that others had the same questions and had already done quite a bit of research. As I perused the ‘Net, I came across any number of posts. This one – a bit long – has some interesting points to make by an individual who allegedly called Bera’s committee headquarters to ask some pointed questions. Here is the text:
“I called the BERA headquarters and asked a lot of questions.
“Regarding the inheritance tax the Doctor does not have any plans to remove the existing 55 percent tax on inheritance!
“Call it a DEATH TAX the Government keeps over half of your Holdings. Of you want to leave something to you children the government will take over half. Sorry that is just WRONG! It also matches up with the communist Manifesto by Carl Marx!
“Regarding the US Constitution as it was adopted in 1787? I was not able to get a position from the doctor.
“Regarding private property the doctor people said the current laws are sufficient. When asked if they could explain they would have to get back to me on that.
“Regarding the doctors support for public tax moneys supporting business groups like “Planned Parenthood”? YES
“Regarding public redistribution of wealth such as welfare,
Yes, Dr. Bera supports Welfare, WICA and other programs?
“Does Dr. Bera support the Minimum Wage? Yes
“How much governmental control should there be over a free capitalistic market or do you oppose Capitalism? the staffer did not have an answer still waiting for the call back
“Does Bera support the Social Security Administration, The Department of Labor?
“Yes they said, these are necessary programs to help people. I followed up with then why are these programs nearly bankrupt?
“What about Freddie and Fanny-may loans how does the the Doctor plan to fix these? No answer?
“Regarding free education for all children in public schools? Yes he supports the public education system.
“Who manages the Curriculum or things taught to the children? local committee groups.
“Bera is opposed to an education voucher system?
“Nazi Pelosi has given Bera Thousand of dollars that makes this guy just a slimly as Pelosi!!!
“Bera is against the Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution, its the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the right to keep and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights.
YES AMI BERA IS A COMMUNIST…A LIBERAL NUT-JOB LIKE PELOSI AND UNION THUG DEMOCRAT.” [1]
If all the above is true, this would certainly explain why I have yet to see an ad where Ami Bera says anything at all, except the obligatory “I’m Ami Bera, and I approve this ad” sound bite. In his ads, like most politicians, he lets other people do his talking because they are saying what a great guy he is and how upstanding and honest he is and just what California needs.
However, if he is cut from the same cloth as Pelosi, Harry Reid, and others, and if what the person quoted above discovered about Bera, how is he any different from what we already have in California and how is he what California needs?
Answer: So far, I have not seen anything that convinces me Ami Bera is what California needs. But let’s continue. Of course, America being what it is today, I have to ask myself…is Dr. Ami Bera Muslim? Is he linked in any way to Islamic groups? Does he appear to have any loyalties to Islam that have gone under the radar? Since I do not work for the NPR, they cannot fire me for asking these pertinent questions. Let’s try to find out this and other things about our mysterious Dr. Bera.
According to Bera’s own Web site, he obviously supports the Obamacare healthcare bill. Bera calls it “an important first step.” [2]
Bera also seems to support the educational system, but gives no specifics about how to make it better so that kids will be able to compete in the “global economy.”
Like many today, Bera also supports a “green” California. His short paragraph about the environment says little. Of course, being “green” is also being politically correct these days. I believe in recycling strongly, but I do not believe that concern over the environment should take precedence over people and that seems to be where radical environmentalism is heading.
Bera’s entire page deals with issues in the same kind of political-speak that we have hearing from candidates and politicians for years. When I talked to David at Bera’s headquarters, he was careful about what he said about the subjects I brought up. Initially, it took some insistence to get direct answers to my questions.
Ultimately, the two questions I asked David at Ami Bera’s headquarters had to do with national security and the 2nd Amendment. On national security, he definitely sounds like a Democrat. By that I mean, he includes to some degree the problems at the border with other areas in society. David did say he supports President Obama’s legal suit against Arizona, something I do not. The reason – said David – is because Bera does not believe that individual states should have their own immigration laws. First of all, why not? Many states have their own laws related to gun control for instance. Second, the Federal Gov’t is not doing its job. When President Obama took the oath of office, he promised to uphold the U.S. Constitution, but has failed.
Instead of protecting states from invasion, President Obama and his administration has turned their collective back on the laws that exist and in turn, turned their legal minions loose. This idea that individual states cannot do something to protect themselves when the Federal Gov’t refuses to do its job is asinine.
Regarding the border, there are problems as David said, but he said they are not all just dealing with illegal immigration. I would disagree. In some way, they are all connected to illegal immigration because the drug cartels use average Mexicans who are trying to get to the United States as mules (drug smugglers). The crime on both sides of the border is either directly or indirectly connected to the problem of illegal immigration. What is the Federal Gov’t doing? Instead of protecting the states, the Federal Gov’t is suing. Does that make sense? President Obama has no right to ignore the Federal laws that are already on the books, yet he is doing so, putting states in the position of trying to do what they can to stem the tide of illegal immigration and all the problems it brings into this country. David said that Ami Bera supports the idea that there should be a national debate about the subject. While he believes that people should be allowed to legally immigrate to this country, they should get to the back of the line after penalties have been assessed to them through fines, etc.
The problem is that there is no time for a national debate. That’s like creating a committee in church to take care of an issue. Often, committees never take care of the issue and it simply gets more drawn out.
If we had a president who took the problem at the border seriously, he would not have pulled money away from the project to strengthen the fences on our borders. He has not only canceled the project, but has turned a blind eye to the problem, as if it does not exist. I can only imagine the debate if President Obama was involved in it.
Two things need to happen in my opinion. First, the fence along the border needs strengthening. That has to be a priority of every administration and along with that, states need to be supported, not sued. Second, there needs to be some type of guest VISA program so that people from Mexico can come here temporarily to work. While they are here, they are certainly free to work toward citizenship. They are then legally able to work and the employers are legally able to pay them. The guest workers will have checks given to them with taxes taken out as well.
These two things CAN and SHOULD happen while the Federal Gov’t is trying to fix the illegal immigration problem. Of course, the president must be willing to support the U.S. Constitution and the laws that already exist.
I also asked David about Ami Bera’s opinion regarding the 2nd Amendment – gun control. As noted above, the individual quoted says that Ami Bera is opposed to the 2nd Amendment. David told me Ami Bera supports it and believes that people who qualify to own guns should be allowed to do so. According to David, Bera does not want to overturn the 2nd Amendment. That is good news.
I will keep doing some research on Ami Bera and other candidates. I think though, this November is going to produce many wins for Republicans and Conservatives.
