Debt and the Blame Game

July 29, 2011 at 12:22 PM 4 comments

Discussing politics is not my favorite subject simply because it seems that there is way too much politicking going on and it angers me.  Politicians are too concerned about scratching each other’s backs in order to garner votes for their pet projects than doing what is actually best for this country.

It is clear – or should be – that this particular Administration has done nothing to eradicate the debt problem.  I was watching clips from various news bureaus the other day and we had folks going up against Tea Party Patriots.  They were blaming Bush for the problem the country is now experiencing.

One of the Patriots pointed out that not one person there referenced 9/11 and all the money spent because of that tragic event.  This doesn’t seem to make a difference for the people who support the Obama Administration without question.

One woman stated that Congress should give the president what he wants.  Well, what Mr. Obama wants is to raise the debt ceiling.  In other words, though Mr. Obama has done nothing to curtail the debt this country is experiencing now.  Not only that, but if you consider the fact that by the end of this year, our Federal Gov’t will have spent 3.2 Trillion dollars, but only brings in 2.2 Trillion.  Right away, anyone should see that this is 1 Trillion dollars more than takes in.

If this was the way you dealt with your family budget, banks would close their doors, creditors would be calling, and you would be heading to bankruptcy court.  You would not be able to go to the banks and ask them to simply give you more credit.

Yet, our Federal Gov’t thinks that raising the debt ceiling is fine.  No, it isn’t fine, unless of course, bankruptcy for our country is a viable option for many.  It isn’t, but don’t tell the people who have been receiving entitlements for decades.

President Obama stated this morning that “There are plenty of ways out of this mess.” [1]  Of course, what he did not say is that he will do his part by spending less.

The Democrats so far, have offered little in order to reduce debt.  They seem all for raising the debt ceiling, which simply puts us in more debt as a nation.  Many don’t seem to be bothered by that though.  It does not concern these people that our government should work within a budget, but rarely if ever does.

When the government runs out of money, Democrats have two solutions: 1) raise the debt ceiling, and 2) raise taxes.  Neither are creative and neither do anything to resolve the issue of the tremendous debt this country is in due to spending by our Federal gov’t that has gotten us into this mess.

People who continue to blame Bush are out of touch, because it’s been nearly four years since Mr. Obama took office.  It is exceedingly easy to show how much money he has spent, much of that on projects that do not even benefit this country at all, either directly or indirectly.

Yet, the president simply wants the debt ceiling raised and he is also in favor of raising taxes.  Many Democrats share that view.  In all fairness, the Democrats have previously supported a measure voiced by the White House that would reduce the debt by 4 Trillion dollars over ten years.  That may sound good to the average person, but not when you consider that our country accumulates over 3.5 million dollars in debt every day!  It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out how quickly 4 Trillion dollars in debt is accumulated, so eliminating that from the debt amounts to nothing in essence, as long as millions in debt is also racked up each day.

What this country truly needs to do is work to eliminate all debt and it can be done.  It cannot be done by raising the debt ceiling and taking more taxes from people.  Of course, the people on the public dole don’t care because they are not paying taxes.  They simply want their lifestyles to continue without interruption.

So, the Republicans then are trying to put forth some type of bill that would reduce the debt.  When they put forth one bill, both the White House and the Democrats nix it, then ask, “Okay, what’s next?”  The Republicans work to create another bill and the reaction from both the White House and the Democrats is the same.  The Republicans go back to the drawing board in an attempt to create something else and so it goes.

It is as if the Republicans are to blame for not presenting something that is acceptable to the White House and Democrats, which is not true.  Neither the White House or Democrats are working to create something that will work, but that doesn’t matter.  As far as the public is concerned, they will see the Republicans as not doing their job, when in point of fact, it is the White House and the Democrats who are doing nothing but simply rejecting whatever the Republicans put forth.  Apparently, the Democrats are allegedly working on something that they can present, but so far, nothing.

I like what Donald Trump said yesterday.  He pointed out that if we allow the country to go into default, it will probably seal the deal where Obama is concerned, keeping him out of office for a second term.  It could, but I have a feeling that if the country defaults, the news, leftheads, and liberals will simply blame the Republicans.

Isn’t that amazing though?  The Democrats controlled the Congress – both the House and the Senate – during the last portion of Bush’s presidency.  When Mr. Obama became the president, the Obamacare bill was essentially rammed through Congress and Republicans had virtually no chance of defeating it because of their numbers.  Nancy Pelosi’s brilliant comment that Congress would have to pass the bill in order to know what was in it stands out as probably the most ludicrous statement made by a politician in recent times. Yet, that was the way that bill was forced through.

Today, it is interesting to note that many areas within Pelosi’s district in California are exempt from Obamacare.  Nearly all of Nevada (Harry Reid’s state) is the same way.  Please don’t tell me that major back scratching did not go on behind the scenes.  If the healthcare bill is that phenomenal, why do two of Mr. Obama’s biggest supporters need exemptions for their state or district?

During the midterm elections, the Republicans gained the majority in the House, while the Democrats retained their majority in the Senate.  As was expected, whatever the House passes is essentially voted down by the Senate, mainly on party lines.

What this particular Administration wants is nothing more than to be able to continue spending more money than our government takes in.  That’s it in a nutshell.  Mr. Obama does not like being told that he cannot spend and in fact, the other day he made a comment about how tempting it is to become a dictator.  That’s the way he sees himself, so I can understand the appeal for him.

I simply don’t worry about this whole scenario any longer.  It’s in God’s hands.  He is the One who is ultimately in control.  I think it may well be that because of where we are in human history and how close we may actually be to the start of the Tribulation (in years, not days), no amount of prayer will change our course.  I say that because it might be that the course is set in stone by God Himself and what we are seeing now with our country is merely the precursor to what is going to happen throughout the world.

I’ve mentioned this before and it seems to be something that more commentators and bloggers are saying as well.  One thing that could cause a cataclysmic destruction of our current global economy as well as the potential fall of many governments throughout the world is the Rapture.  If you consider the fact that when the Rapture occurs, literally millions of people will vanish in the twinkling of an eye, things will drastically change on this planet.

I have also reported (as have others) that within the New Age movement and specifically within the areas of Alienology, prognosticators have been saying for over 20 years that at some future point, a Great Evacuation will occur in which over 20 million (their number) people will be gone instantly.  Of course, in their scenario, these people are taking up to waiting spaceships and then carted to enormous mother ships that will take those people to other planets.  The reason they will be taken is because they are the people who are holding this earth back from evolving to the next spiritual plane, or those known as “malcontents.”

In the biblical Rapture view, people who are being taken from this planet are those who are part of the invisible Church.  Once the Church is gone, the Holy Spirit will no longer be able to work through the Church and will immediately begin to seal 144,000 Jewish evangelists to continue His work of saving the lost on this planet.

If you will stop to consider the result of millions of people being gone at the same time, you would quickly understand that chaos will be the result.  Of those millions of people, some are flying planes, many are driving cars and trucks.  They are operating machinery at factories, or monitoring computer equipment at utilities.

People will be checking their groceries out and all of a sudden, the cashier disappears and people behind or in front of them are gone.  People will absolutely freak out.  At that point, the higher-ups within the New Age movement will quickly come to the fore to do what they can to calm people down, presenting their long-rehearsed script that these people were taken because they kept Mother Earth from evolving.  With these people gone, the earth can finally move toward peace.

In the Bible, we really don’t read too much about the first three and a half years of the Tribulation.  Starting with Revelation 6, we begin to see the seven Seals open, followed by the seven Trumpets, followed by the seven Bowls.  While we can discern the order in which these things happen, as far as the earth is concerned, they will experience more famines, more pestilence, and more severe weather and wars, but that may seem as though it is simply the remnant of all the things that began prior to the Rapture.  Mother Earth is still trying to “cleanse” herself people will be told.

At the midpoint in the Tribulation, Antichrist defiles the Temple (Daniel 9:24-27) and from that point onward, his mask is off.  With a vengeance, he will go after all those who refuse to worship him.  That is when things really begin to ramp up and this period is referred to as the Great Tribulation by Jesus Himself in the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24).

I believe that the world is moving along as it was designed.  We can and should still pray of course, but we should always include in our prayers the desire that His will and His will only should be accomplished.  I can pray that God will replace Mr. Obama in 2012, but what if God does not want to do that?  If I am not willing to accept that, then I will be frustrated and will not understand why my prayers “were not answered.”  They were answered.  God did exactly what He chose to do and said, “no” to my request.

The more I study prayer, the more I believe that the reason people like Daniel, David, and others were so loved by God is that they gave God the respect He deserved.  They submitted themselves to Him moment-by-moment every day.  They recognized that God’s ways were not necessarily their ways and admitted that to Him.

In other words, they gave God plenty of room to be God.  This is exactly what we need to do when it comes to prayer and living our life.  We need to understand that most of the time, we do not give God enough room to be God and because of that, we wind up with disappointment many times.  It is because we want things done our way, asking the Lord to bless our requests.  I imagine God gets tired of that.  He likely grows frustrated with that because His people spend more time asking him to bless this or that, than we do asking Him to open our eyes to His plans and purposes.

At its root, prayer is talking with God.  However, I should spend far more time in prayer asking that He will provide the discernment to see and do His will than I simply piling up my own requests at the throne.

Does God have a plan for my life?  Is that plan to fulfill my requests or is it to conform me into the image of His Son?  If the former, then God is nothing more than a genie.  If the latter, then He is going to create within me the image of His Son who at every turn submitted Himself to the Father’s will.

In other words, Jesus learned what the Father’s will was every day and then after learning it, He committed Himself to doing it.  More often than not, when I pray, I am trying to get God to see how wonderful and altruistic my requests are so that He will do them.  I tend to see God has just sitting there, waiting for me to come to Him with all of my requests so that He can do all of my bidding.  How wrong is that?

God has His plans and purposes and the reality is that I need to get in line with those purposes.  If it means dropping my requests in favor of His plans, then so be it.

I am becoming more convinced that the more I am willing to seek His face, in order to determine His will, the greater He will be able to work in and through me.  But for what purpose?  For His purpose and to glorify Himself.

I still go back to the Garden of Gethsemane.  I see Jesus’ pain, His anguish, even His frustration.  I see how He brought His own concerns about the upcoming events to the Father.  I also see how He relinquished those events to the Father, recognizing that first and foremost, it was His will that needed to be done.  Though Jesus always agreed with the Father’s will and certainly in the Garden of Gethsemane, He agreed with it in His head, He also came to the point of agreeing with God in His heart.

That is the point of prayer!  That is where we should always end up!  We should always arrive to a point of gladly giving up our plans for His, even when we are not sure what His plans are for us.

I would love to see this country governed by a different, more conservative president in 2012.  That may not be God’s plan and because of that, He is obligated to say “no” to me and everyone else who prays the same way.  That does not mean I cannot pray that way.  It means that once I learn His will, I am obligated to pray that way and if His will in these matters does not become clear, then I am just as obligated to give the situation over to Him.

How does that look or sound in my prayer?  Here is one option.  “Lord, above all things, I want your will.  Yet, because I am not omniscient, nor have you given me a vision of the future aside from what is stated in your Book, I do not know what the outcome of the presidential election will be in 2012.  I know that I want a conservative president, one who supports Israel.  I want your face to once again shine on this nation.

“However, Lord, I recognize and admit that I do not know what you will accomplish.  I can look at the situation from a human perspective and be concerned over the alleged election fraud that took place during the 2008 presidential election.  I can be frustrated over the fact that it appears as though many Democrats in the 2008 Primaries registered as Republicans in order to vote for the person who would be the worst choice to go up against Obama, having little chance of beating him.  These same individuals then re-registered as Democrats for the actual election.  Did this happen?  It is said to have happened, yet you were in control of that and could have stopped it (if it did happen) but chose not to.

“It appears as though the election of Mr. Obama was your design.  It was no accident.  It could have been allowed/designed by you to wake this nation up, or it could have been allowed/designed in order to bring this nation and the world that much closer to the time when the Antichrist will step onto the world’s stage for the final act of the human drama.

“Lord, I truly do not know how to pray except to ask that if it is your will, you will remove Mr. Obama from office and replace him with someone who listens to you, who supports Israel, and who cares about this country.  Yet, I also say to you that I only want your will because there is nothing better.

“It may be that your plans include re-election for Mr. Obama.  If that is the case, then I praise your holy Name that your plans will be done, in accordance with your will.  Above all things, allow only your will to be accomplished and give me the grace to receive your will. In the Name of our Lord, God, and Savior, Jesus.  Amen.”

That is one way to pray for this nation and still keep in line with God’s will.  I truly do not want God to do anything that He has no intention of doing.  He sees all things.  He knows all things.  He will work out all things for the praise of His glory.

When it comes to my own personal life, I can and should pray the same way.  Does God have my life in the palm of His hand or not?  Absolutely, and if I truly believe that, then I will pray to discern His will, not bombard Him with my own requests that may have absolutely nothing to do with His will.

Our prayers – whether we are praying for ourselves, others, or our nation, should always be undergirded with “not my will, but yours be done.”  That is the way in which we show and tell God how much we love Him.  That sentence tells God loudly how much we trust Him even if we do not understand it.  It is the way in which we give up holding onto those things that we need to release.

The debt situation in the United States is under God’s care.  He will do with it what He has foreordained.  He will bring about His will whether anyone likes it or not.  There are many things about life that are not pretty right now.  Debt is high and continues to skyrocket out of sight.  Weather throughout the world has destroyed crops, homes, villages, and cities, and taken many lives as well.  Prices continue to rise and people feel as though they are between a rock and a hard place.

The Christian – above all people – should not be afraid or concerned if we are in the middle of His will.  One way – maybe the best way – to get there is to concede that God has everything under control.  As His children, we must ask ourselves, do we trust God?  Is our trust in Him based on circumstances or on Him?  Can and will God take care of us?  I hope that we can answer each of those questions correctly.

Job went through a great deal, much if it he did not understand until after he died.  Certainly, while he was experiencing what he lived through, he had no idea that what he was experiencing was the result of Satan throwing his best at Job in order to prove God wrong.  Does God have a right to that?  That question should not be asked.

In spite of what Job suffered, we have to appreciate the fact that in Job 13:15 he stated these words:  “Though He slay me, I will hope in Him. Nevertheless I will argue my ways before Him.”

Yes, Job had some questions and by the way his questions were more than adequately answered at the end of the book.  In fact, Job got to a point where he admitted that he should just shut up and not say another thing.  He had come face-to-face with God and it brought him to a very humble state.  There was nothing he could say.  God was right and he had to admit it.

Yet, he was willing to put his entire life in God’s hands saying that even if God killed him (Job), his trust in God would never waver.  This should actually be the mantra of every Christian today.  Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.  The only way I know how to get there is through prayer, giving up the things that keep us bound to ourselves.  SELF keeps us from seeing the larger picture.  Once we throw off SELF, we can then begin to see life through God’s eyes.

Can you imagine a soldier going to the General and asking the General to start doing things the soldier’s way?  How ludicrous would that be?  I have to confess that at times, this is exactly what I do.  I thank Him mightily for His patience and love for me in spite of the times I desire Him to serve me.

Christians, we are living in a time when now more than ever, we must be about the Father’s business.  He wants us to be in the business of introducing the lost to Him.  We cannot save this physical world.  We can’t even change the outcome of the 2012 presidential election.  It is already decided by God Himself.  What we want and what God will do may not be the same thing.

Are you ready and willing to determine His will for your life and go with it?  Do you understand that you are merely one of the soldiers in His eternal army?  As such, whom do you serve?

Fred, the latest from Fox News itself admits, “Reid unveiled an alternative that would cut spending by $2.4 trillion and raise the debt limit by the same amount, enough to meet Obama’s terms that it tide the Treasury over until 2013.” Both the Republican and Democrat plans are actually very similar, with both resulting in cuts at around the same level. The main difference is that the Republican plan only provides a short-term raise of the debt ceiling (which could still result in a downgrading by credit agencies), whilst the Democrats plan will raise it until after the next Presidential election.

Basically, the Democrats are willing to see Rome burn in order to prevent Obama from further embarrassment; the Republicans are willing to see Rome burn in order to see Obama’s political career come to an end (as you rightly quote Trump). Both sides of politics are just as culpable in my book, and the endless finger pointing is not just part of the problem, it is the problem. The House is now divided against itself and so will soon fall.

The US does need to stop going into debt, but if the ceiling is not raised then by Aug 3 there will be economic Armageddon. If that occurs, we may all hope for the Rapture, because it won’t be pleasant here on earth, especially the poor. I agree, the debt crises may part of God’s care and will but of course it may also be God’s will for elected officials to use their common good sense and solve the crisis in a spirit of Christian unity. Instead of looking to God for some miracle from up high, maybe they should stop yelling and actually start listening to God, and discover like Gideon that sometime WE humans are the miracle (Judges 6:12-14)?

Simon, regardless of how similar both plans are, it is clear that the Republicans could produce the exact same thing as the Dems and the Dems would reject it. Be that as it may, whether the US stops going into debt is up to our illustrious leaders. I can do nothing about it and ultimately, God is in control, which was the main point of my post.

I did not think you believed in the Rapture, Simon.

Simon, how on earth do you expect people who are essentially godless to “solve the crisis in a spirit of Christian unity”? It’s impossible.

Do you not actually see that God is in the details? Nothing happens on this planet without his approval or design.

Prob true but the argument works both ways – the Tea Party Taliban won’t approve anything, even if produced by the Republican leadership itself. I don’t think people have to be defeatist or fatalistic – it may be in the hands of leaders, but they are influenced and act by people power. Look at all the great Christian reforms of history – abolition of slavery, prohibition, civil rights movement etc. Perhaps this is just my Arminian-Weslyian view of how God works in the world and the power of free choice.

I do believe in the Rapture, just not the secret kind. I was just affirming your broader sentiments in the hope of the Second Coming of Christ, because it is certainly clear this world is broke!

I resent the phrase “Tea Party Taliban,” Simon. At its root, the Tea Party, which has been unfairly vilified in the liberal media, wants no new taxes, hence the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) in Tea Party. John McCain can refer to Tea Party members as “hobbits,” but all he’s doing is ostracizing many within his own party – a stupid move for anyone in politics. It’s also not true that the Tea Party won’t approve anything even if produced by Republican leadership. You’ve apparently been listening to CNN and other leftheads too much. Rand Paul’s version of how to eliminate debt is brilliant, but it’s too brilliant for those in Washington. It would allow for reducing the deb one penny on every dollar spent, which would bring about a balanced budget in six years. Gee, who would want that? Certainly not Mr. “I will spend as much money as I want to” Obama.

Tea Party members (and I am not one, except in spirit) want LESS spending and NO new taxes. It’s not an unreasonable expectation since banks expect the average person to live by such a rule.

Frankly, I don’t understand where you are coming from, if you say you are a Christian. There is no such thing as “fate” or having a “fatalistic” view of life. By that then, Jesus’ own words in the Garden of Gethsemane were “fatalistic.” There is a HUGE difference in recognizing that some impersonal force (fate) controls life and that the God of the universe controls it.

I don’t believe in free will and wrote a blog on it. We do not have free will (absolute) as did Adam, Eve, Satan, and Jesus. Our free will, such as it is, is completely marred because of the sin nature. Nonetheless, do you really believe that even if we HAD absolute free will, God would leave things up to chance, waiting for us to use our free will to do something? You believe we have free will, yet it is clear in places like Ezekiel 36 – 39 that while Gog of the north gets a thought in his head to attack Israel, God Himself is the One who puts His hooks in Gog’s mouth to turn him around and direct his attention on Israel. There are so many portions of God’s Word that provide us with the idea that God is absolutely, 100% in charge of everything that occurs on this planet and in the lives of individuals that only a person who doubts the veracity of Scripture would question it.

I don’t think it’s your Arminian-Wesleyian view of things as much as it is your connection with Seventh-day Adventism that has altered your view of reality where free will is concerned.

As I stated in my post, I can and do pray that God provides a different leader for this country in 2012. However, I recognize the reality that He may NOT wish to do so. This is not fatalism. It is recognizing His Lordship over all things.

If you’re referring to the Rapture which allegedly occurs at the end of the Tribulation period, there’s no point to that one at all. You may wish to read some interesting works published by those within the New Age who believe that in the future there will be a “Great Evacuation” which will usher in chaos and from that chaos will rise the new world order. The “secret” Rapture as you call it is noted by New Age individuals for years. They believe when that happens, the earth will move to the next spiritual level and ultimately allow the globe to enter into unprecedented world peace. My point is simple – I believe Satan is very aware of the fact that the Rapture will happen and he has been busy teaching his followers this fact with an alternate explanation so that when it happens, they will not be surprised by it. Of course we know that Satan lies – his native language – but we also know that his lies are almost always based on some aspect of God’s true Word.
