Seals 5 – 7 spell more trouble during the Tribulation

In part 5 of this series on the Tribulation, we went over Seal 4. Seal 4 represents the fact that one-fourth of the world’s population will be destroyed by sword (war/conflict), famine/starvation, and wild animals. If I’ve done the math correctly that means that roughly 1.75 billion people will die once Seal 4 is opened (based on the a total global population of 7 billion). That’s a lot of people.

Seal 5 opens and persecution ramps against those Christians living during this time. For many to most, this persecution will end in their deaths. Martyrdom will be the way many pass from this life to the next during this upcoming terrible seven-year-period. There’s good reason for this, aside from the fact that it is declared in Scripture.

Communism is a system built on ideals that are antithetical to God. In the Bible, we see that Adam – man – was the pinnacle of God’s Creation. Man is the only creature where God breathed a soul into him and became a living being. This was not done to any of the plants or animals, but only man.

Communism says that man is simply another animal. Any traits that man has that are seen in man – “tenets of rugged individualism, personal determinism, self-will, imagination, and personal creativeness…” – are not good things. In fact, they are seen as “equally antipathetic to the good of the Greater State.” [1]

According to the tenets of Communism, the ingenuity, creativeness, intelligence, individuality, and other attributes bestowed upon man when God created him are seen as things to be despised, ignored, and even eradicated. If need be, the person himself needs to be eliminated in order that the “state” might carry on as the greater entity.

Communism seeks to destroy all the things that God has given man who places him well above the animal kingdom. This ideology – Communism – is born in the depths of hell and promulgated by Satan himself. It is diametrically opposed to God. As time progresses toward the end of this current age, is it any wonder that the masses will be completely taken over by the atheistic nonsense that is called Communism?

Christians and those who hold to a religious ideology (with the possible exception of Islam) will be seen as anathema. They will be seen as the problem that keeps the state from becoming even greater. As such, the options will be limited. Change or die. Those who worship the one, true God in Jesus, will in no way separate themselves from their loyalty and allegiance to Him. Thus, their end is assured.

Seal 6 is then opened and released and this world will experience what the Bible calls “general convulsions throughout nature” along with a second complete blackout. I don’t expect that many of us can picture what the world will be like with a total blackout. Consider the sun no longer shining and the moon no longer reflecting the sun’s light. At the same time, the stars turn dark. This will be an unnerving time for this earth with scientists unable to provide any explanation as to why it’s happening.

Let’s look at the biblical text before we move on, from Revelation 6:12-14

I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

It’s not just darkness. There is a tremendous earthquake, the sun becomes black and the moon appears to turn blood-red. Stars fall to earth in droves and the most terrifying thing of all, the sky itself splits apart and mountains and islands move from their original place. My guess is that the earthquake is huge. Are tsunamis to follow this action?

How do the people on earth react to all of these things? Revelation 6:15-16 tells us point-blank.

Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

Clearly, there will be at least some people who know the Source of the trouble. They try to hide in caves to get away from God and beg the mountains to bury them so they can avoid “the wrath of the Lamb.” In other words, they know that they know, that they know that God Himself is the source of these problems, yet they do not repent. They do not seek His face. They run from Him. They try to hide. Just like a leftist. Even when they know the truth, they ignore it.

The Tribulation – all seven years of it – represents God’s wrath and the people on earth will understand that, even though theologians argue about it and dismiss it today. Those living during the Tribulation will find life very, very difficult. They will be forced to choose human government or God’s rule over their lives.

But let’s remember, this is only the first part of the Tribulation. This section ends with the opening of Seal 7 and with that, we are introduced to the 7 trumpet seals. We will get into those in our next article.
