Push-back Against Socialism

What we’re seeing in America is the result of the Elite forcing their plan onto society. They want things in upheaval as they move America toward Socialism. The more upheaval, the better, because it makes it difficult for people to concentrate on any one thing in society. This upheaval allows the Elite to bring their goals and ambitions to fruition because there is so much going on in society that acts as either a catalyst for their goals or distracts people from noticing them. It’s a form of Hegelian Dialectic at work and certainly, part of the reason all this is happening is so that people will eventually demand the government keep society safe. The government will be willing to do this by seriously curtailing and then outlawing personal gun ownership.

Sameness is the New Word for Socialism

This is why the arguments are being made that we must have “compassion” on those who have peanut allergies or who identify as female, though biologically male (or visa versa). There is also a push that parents of young children should no longer read to them, but should wait until their children get to school. The argument is that since many parents cannot (or simply don’t) read to their young children, the parents who do read to theirs are creating a situation in which their children are ahead of the game. This creates an unfair situation for those children whose parents, for one reason or another, do not read to their kids. This is an “unfair advantage” against those children. Society is being told that we must now reduce ourselves to the lowest common denominator. What’s next, the eradication of all competitive sports? That’s actually been in the works for a while.

It’s Just Becoming Weird, Isn’t It?

The last few weeks, my soul has grown weary. I find myself simply saddened at the chosen fate of too many today. They cannot listen to reason because they simply cannot reason. They are spiritually dead in their sins and cannot extricate themselves. Instead of being able to make good and right decisions, they continue to make decisions that place them deeper and deeper inside the lies that surround them and guide them along. Those lies, seen as truth, continue to guide them away from God in Christ.

Does Neil Postman Offer Us a Solution?

Postman notes that by the time the average American reaches 40 years of age, he/she will have seen “well over one million television commercials in his or her lifetime, and has close to another million to go before the first Social Security check arrives. Every program on television has a “sponsor,” a company that pays hundreds of thousands of dollars (or even millions, depending upon the program), to advertise their product during that show’s broadcast. Because of that, things have become very one-sided. While Postman does not condemn capitalism, he certainly understands that some of these corporations have become so large, they are their own monopolies and because of that, can and do dictate to society and even to our government how things are to be done. This, he says, has destroyed public discourse as it is supposed to be. He even notes that because of commercials, people began to stop using prepositions and that began in the 1950’s. It’s even worse today. This has been done through substituting images for claims related to a product. It’s not even talking. It’s merely a progression of images with a bed of pleasant music underneath.

Caleb: Give Me the High Country

Joshua and Caleb saw the same thing that the other 10 spies saw but were not discouraged. They were not unfaithful to God. But in spite of their protestations, in spite of their faithfulness, and in spite of their encouragement the people of Israel rebelled, refusing God’s good graces and ultimately experienced the consequences of their terribly faithless decision.

Amusing Ourselves to Death

The other problem with society’s penchant for and reliance on bite-sized information in the form of easy t0 remember slogans and memes is that we become addicted to that form of “entertainment” and make the mistake of thinking that we are “learning” because of it. If we’re learning, we are becoming better people, right? Wrong. If we are learning things that are provably untrue, this does not make us better in any way, shape, or form. Unlike smoke signals at one time used by American Indians to share the most basic information from tribe to tribe, modern day slogans are used the same way, except intended to share complex truths. This is ridiculous, yet it has become the standard practice throughout society. This is also why, I believe, political correctness has become the way the average person determines truth these days. It’s all about how you feel about something.

Did the Exodus Actually Happen?

If there is virtually no evidence to support the biblical account, then where do we go from here? I believe Mahoney answers that question and answers it clearly. He sets about to determine the truth, wherever that truth happens to fall. He’s willing to let it fall on the side that either proves or disproves Scripture. To do so, he simply looked for any clues he could find. What he did find was that there is definitely a problem, but the problem is not in the evidence (or lack of it) regarding the Exodus. The problem may well be in the way the experts in the field have dated the Egyptian kingdoms.

King Ahab and Jezebel, Part 7

There was not only no national salvation for Israel on its way as a result of God’s victory at Mt. Carmel. Elijah now faced a new problem, one that he probably did not expect. In this case, as we read, Jezebel wasted no time. She quickly sent a message to Elijah saying that he would be dead by that time on the next day. No sign of repentance on her part! Imagine watching or seeing 450 prophets of the god you worship get cut down by the sword after losing a very decisive and clear battle between the false god of Baal and the only true God, Jehovah. I get the feeling Ahab was hoping for such a response from her because he wasn’t man enough to do it himself. Yep, he wanted Jezebel to fight this battle for him.

King Ahab and Jezebel, Part 6

Elijah’s was a prayer to God and a mini-sermon to the people of Israel. The saddest part is that this entire scene should not have been necessary, but the people had fallen out of favor where God was concerned because of their penchant for idolatry and wanting to “fit in” with the people around them. Because of this, they literally cast the God of Abraham away from them and then wondered why trouble seemed to dog their footsteps. Gideon had this same problem in Judges 6. It’s because the people took their eyes off of God and slowly began to incorporate false gods into the mix, eventually fully pushing out Jehovah. It didn’t happen overnight. It took a bit of time. Because of that, the people could kid themselves into thinking that they were clueless as to why God seemed so silent and distant.

King Ahab and Jezebel, Part 5

During the event at Mt. Carmel, Elijah allows himself a moment or two to even poke fun at the prophets. On one hand, we can understand his sarcasm (v. 27; where Elijah “mocks” the prophets), yet on the other hand, this may have ultimately caused problems for Elijah within himself. Sarcasm at its root, is a form of arrogance. I must admit that I myself have had to deal with this within. In times past, I have been cutting to the bone and have gone for the proverbial jugular during a disagreement. I have been guilty of doing the exact opposite of what the Scriptures in many places tell us how to respond, where a soft answer would have turned away anger, my sarcasm simply made things worse. I’ve had to apologize to people because of it.
