Is the War with Islam Another Vietnam?

I recently watched a history documentary about the Vietnam War. It was very interesting and seemed to lack a good deal of bias. It certainly felt like facts were presented in an impartial way.
I was about ten or eleven when the Vietnam War was going strong in 1968. As I grew older, I did not really know what the issue was concerning the war. What I knew was that there seemed to be a good amount of people in this country who were opposed to the war and wanted our service personnel back in the United States.
When this finally happened, the reception these service men and women received was far less than stellar. In fact, to say it was rude would be a bit of an understatement. The individuals who went off to fight in a way, doing what they believed was their duty, were treated as criminals, or just simply trash.
What I learned from this history special was that the Communists from North Korea wanted to overtake and capture South Korea. They wanted to include South Korea into their country, making it communist as well.
Because of this, the United States got involved in 1961 (though the war had been raging since 1955), because the U.S. (along with other anti-Communist countries) did not want to see South Korea swallowed up the big red machine of Communism. The Vietnam War itself stemmed from previous wars and situations and in one sense, was a continuation of some of them that led into the Vietnam conflict.
What kicked things off for America is Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev’s pledge to throw his support to North Vietnam and bring national liberation (as if Communism is liberating) to the north. America (under JFK) got involved in this war slowly, with few troops, originally sending only the Green Berets. It was hoped that this would force a political settlement, but didn’t.
Though America would send many military advisers and weapons, it would be a while before our troop presence increased to any sizable amount. It was not until a few years after the assassination of President Kennedy that President Johnson chose to begin dropping bombs in areas that were being overrun by Communist military. This was also due in part to Barry Goldwater’s intense dislike of Communism that forced LBJ’s administration to get involved in a more formal way, militarily.
It took more time before Johnson would commit to sending troops and even though he essentially promised that he would not send troops to Asia to do what the Asians should do, he did eventually relent. Finally, in February of 1965, Johnson agrees that a longstanding bombing campaign may help avoid sending in troops, but it doesn’t work.
One month later, roughly 3500 Marine combat troops arrive to engage the enemy and support the South Vietnamese. Bombing continued in areas held by North Vietnamese troops.
As another month goes by, students begin protesting the war in April. Over 15,000 students protest the continued bombing. By May, 3500 Army combat troops arrive in Vietnam to help stem the tide of the Communist onslaught. By July of this same year, Johnson commits to sending 125,000 troops to Vietnam.
During the course of the program, I learned a great deal about the Tet Offensive, Hamburger Hill and other military operations. What our servicemen and women had to deal with was unbelievable!
In every military operation, the United States won by routing or decimating the enemy of freedom. Yet, because of the way people were protesting in America, the tide began to turn. Eventually, Johnson was no longer interested in being president and said as much to the American people.
Richard Nixon became president with Gerald Ford as Vice President. The war continued even after Nixon resigned in disgrace due to the Watergate. Prior to leaving office, he had promised the South Vietnamese leader that should North Vietnam come in once American troops were removed (and after a peace treaty was signed), Nixon would again send bombers.
With Nixon out of office, and Ford as president, even though things began heating up again in Vietnam, Ford did not follow through on Nixon’s promise to send bombers. Essentially war continued due to the factions within North and South Vietnam. For America’s part, we were out of it.
Now what I also found interesting is what the service people who were there had to say. They believed they could win the war. Everywhere they went, victory followed them. It did not matter if it was the Tet Offensive, or the bloody battle of Hamburger Hill. They always – eventually – routed the enemy. However, because of the politics involved in any war situation, they might as well not have done so. They gained Hamburger Hill only to walk away from it on the Administration’s orders. In less than a month, the Vietcong again took up battle positions on Hamburger Hill. This took place repeatedly. Our military would win a battle, then be told to walk away.
The servicemen and women were at a loss. They felt betrayed and they felt as if they were hung out to dry. President Johnson appeared to them to want to cut and run and there was less and less support coming from Washington.
However, the most interesting comment I heard from the narrator of the history special was that the North Vietnamese and Vietcong all entered into that conflict knowing that they were likely going to lose their lives. They went into the Vietnam War with that mindset. Because of that, they fought as if they were already dead! By this I mean that they were willing to give up everything, including their lives for their struggle. To them, this struggle was representative of their life! It was Communism or nothing!
Repeatedly, throughout the TV special, the American soldiers that were interviewed said how the Vietcong and the North Vietnamese were so resourceful that it boggled their minds. They would bomb the only real road that connected North Vietnam to South Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, making it impossible for the North Vietnamese or Vietcong to get through. It did not matter because they found a way through, even if it meant digging shovel fulls of dirt and rock out of the way.
On another occasion, at the top of Hamburger Hill, U.S. military troops were surprised to find cave openings, cleverly concealed with tree branches. These openings led to tunnels and paths that provided cover for North Vietnamese soldiers for weeks! They found food, ammo, guns, and more. The North Vietnamese were in this for the long haul. They were not giving up anytime soon.
The North Vietnamese approached this situation as a responsibility they would not shrink from, and in fact, considered it their job to protect their political ideologies. They faced death with aplomb and never looked back. They also believed that if they could wear the Americans down, they would win by default because the Americans would give up. Ultimately, under the direction of the Nixon Administration, and supported by the Ford Administration, this is what happened. We simply pulled our troops out and slowly stopped supplying arms and ammo to the South Vietnamese. The North Vietnamese took advantage of the situation and went back into fight to gain control of South Vietnam. It was as if the years that America was involved were nothing more than a parenthesis. It would have been better to not have been involved at all, than to pull out before winning a decisive victory.
The difference between the way liberal American students as well as students from other countries like Great Britain, and the military saw this was juxtaposed. They were on opposite sides of the fence. The liberals in this and other countries asked why America was involved at all? It did not seem to matter that the encroachment of North Vietnam into South Vietnam meant a reduction in freedom through the enforcement of Communism. The view was that it was not America’s problem.
Does this remind you of anything or anyone? In many ways, it should. The threat of Islamic take-over began very small and was essentially relegated to an area of the world that was already Islamic to a large extent. However, over time and through various situations and events that have occurred, Islam has made its presence known to America. There were two attempts on the WTC, but it was the second one that shattered the American dream.
After that, many radical Islamists realized that doing something like that again to the United States is not likely, at least not for a while. So what did they do? They began infiltrating America, pretending they are actually part of our belief system. Some are, many are not.
Watching an episode of “America’s Most Wanted,” I listened as John Walsh spoke of a terrorist who has gone underground and is very likely involved in a sleeper cell. He is waiting for the right time to strike and given the chance, he will strike. However, to see how this man blended into the fabric of American society is interesting. Walsh even showed a clip of this seemingly innocuous Muslim teaching foreigners to this country how to speak English in a formal classroom setting.
Essentially, there are some people in America who have gotten tired of fighting an invisible enemy. We do not know where the radical Muslims are and because of that, it is difficult to fend them off. Some in the U.S. have grown tired of it and simply want to ignore it. Either that or they choose to believe that the radical Muslims who continue to perpetrate their evil are few and far between.
Well, it should be clear to everyone who has eyes to see and ears to hear that these radical Muslims are not few and far between. They are in many ways, a multitude of loosely knit cells, all determined to find ways to bring America to her knees. This is precisely why the mosque at Ground Zero is wrong and it is also why Imam Rauf, his wife Daisy, and others will not relent. They have too much to lose and a tremendous amount to gain if that mosque gets built.
As I have stated before, a mosque in the shadow of Ground Zero signals a victory for Allah. Everywhere Muhammad went, mosques were sure to follow and this is no different. Radical Muslims bombed the WTC by flying planes with people directly into the buildings and radical Muslims want a mosque to be built in honor of that event. There are too many bleeding hearts in this country who have no clue at all, preferring to side with terrorists because they are unable to see the truth in the situation.
The most interesting thing through that in some way, connects the mindset of the North Vietnamese and Vietcong to the radical Muslims of today is their demeanor. Both groups go into this “battle” knowing that they may die and neither the North Vietnamese cared, nor do the radical Muslims of today. They do not care if they lose their life, because in point of fact, losing their life in this type of war is a great honor, one that is to be celebrated!
We are fighting an enemy that many of us cannot see. Not only do they believe dying for their cause will result in the greatest honor, but they are also counting on America and the rest of the world to simply give up and stop fighting. Doing so means radical Islam will win by default.
Since it is difficult to see the enemy (they are not flying planes into buildings these days, but working directly within the system to change it from within), it becomes easy to think they are not actually there. This is foolishness. They are here and they are working from within to destroy what we enjoy now.
Just as the North Vietnamese flooded into South Vietnam after the Americans pulled out, so will radical Islam flood in wherever we give up space. What has been happening in Israel is that situation happening on a smaller scale. Those who are opposed to Israel have the staying power, the stamina to continue to bomb Israel, to continue to issue ultimatums, to continue fighting, to continue pressing against all who support Israel. These individuals have been doing this in recent times since 1948, when Israel became a nation again. They have not given up and they will not give up until there is not one Arab/Muslim to fight against Israel. They see this as their jihad, their goal in life, the reason they were born.
Whenever Israel has been forced in one way or another to give land back that she legally took during wartime after being attacked, the groups that were bombing Israel continued bombing, but after they moved into the land that Israel just gave back to them. The astounding thing is that these same groups would make promises to Israel that if they give back that land or that land over there, the bombing would stop. Not only has it never stopped, but it increases in ferocity!
Gaining ground spurs radical Muslims onward. They believe this small victory from Allah will lead to another victory, and another one, and another one. This will finally lead to the entire world being swallowed up by Islam. That may sound absurd to you, but it may well be that you are the one who is being absurd due to your naivete.
Those within the system of Islam are sold out to Allah. They believe they are doing his bidding. It is impossible to be a good Muslim and support the country in which you are living, be it Great Britain, the Netherlands, or the United States. Initially – until the numbers increase – all Muslims will need to look as if they are supporting their newly adopted country. However, when the numbers increase to a point of no return, the sheer volume of these numbers gives them the ability to demand what they want. If they do not receive it, it is easy enough for them to become violent. What are 300 police officers going to do against a few thousand Muslims who believe that if they die that day, they will immediately be in Allah’s presence?
I wrote a blog a few days ago that included information about a Muslim who burned effigies of the Pastor from Florida who threatened to burn the Qur’an, and Osama bin Laden. He did so because he believed that these extremists stand opposed to the freedom that he enjoys in America. It may be that he is sincere. Unfortunately, I have my doubts. I think it was more show than anything else, though I certainly could be wrong.
The sad truth of the matter is that we are coming to a day (and may already be here) when the enemy puts down roots right next to us. They will smile politely and seem grateful for what America offers them. They will be model neighbors. Eventually, their numbers will grow and they will appear to change with those growing numbers. Their politeness has lost its luster, its sincerity. As time continues to go by, their increased numbers will give them the courage to begin to treat you as they really want to treat you, like the infidel you are. Allah hates you and so do they.
The Vietnam War was a war that should have been won by America. We should have had the staying power to route Communism, giving it a good swift kick on the backside as we chased it back into North Vietnam. Instead, though American troops made tremendous gains, in the end we gave back to the North Vietnamese everything we took from them. They knew they would outlast us and they did.
Today’s war is of a completely different scale, yet similar. We are not on the battlefield watching soldiers hunker down in their bunkers, fighting an enemy that shoots back. We are involved in a takeover of major proportions and unfortunately, it is being supported all the way to the White House and Oval Office. I truly hate to say that, but I see no alternative.
We are in a war and this war can only be fought to our democratic system. We vote soon and what occurs there will help decide the direction this country takes. However, in the long run, this country will fall because that is what the Bible tells us will happen. The Antichrist will rule the world, which includes America. Is that weird or what?
Imagine if you were actually fighting an invisible enemy in your home. It would be a fight that you could not win unless you were able to do something to bring visibility to that enemy. We fight the same fight now. Our invisible enemy is staying below the radar. Making him visible is what is necessary.
Even if we die trying, I would rather go that way, than by giving up and throwing in the towel. How about you?
