CNN is Always Good for the Actual Liberal, Lefthead View of Things

I watch a variety of news programs, from CNN, to FOX News, to HLN, to BBC, to even PBS at times.  It is always interesting to me to hear how different people respond to and report on the same events.

For instance, if I want to hear news that will always be in favor of liberal lefthead policies, I can turn to either CNN or HLN.  If I want views that are in favor of more conservative values, FOX News will do it and even at time, BBC, which is generally non-partisan, at least the times I have watched it.  PBS is generally skewed toward the left as well.

The New York Times and Washington Post are also news bureaus that will always find a way to make liberals and our current president come up smelling like a rose.  Of course, I am referring to the editorial opinions expressed in all news bureaus.

There are a number of anchors who have learned how to interlace their opinions with only a few words, or a scowl, or rolled eyes, or an “inside joke” about something that indicates to the audience their left-leanings.  This is because over the years, news reporting has become another form of entertainment.  Gone are the years of Walter Cronkite or Huntley/Brinkley.  News reporting today is inflicting the anchor’s opinion in the delivery of the news as much as simply delivering the news.

This type of situation is accomplished with guests.  O’Reilly does it.  Hannity does it, and many others do it.  However, neither O’Reilly or Hannity claim to be literal news shows.  They are opinion shows where a news report will be discussed and not merely reported.  This allows the “anchor” to clearly portray his/her opinion on a subject.  Often the guests that are invited onto the show agree with the host, but not always.

News programs are supposed to simply present the news, but that is becoming a very rare situation indeed.  Who has not seen advertisements for the news?  “Tonight, on KCRUD, we delve into the problem of cats run amok and why juveniles often carry highly contagious viruses without even knowing it!  Join us, tonight at 11!” or some such nonsense.

For every program that is on TV, it’s really all about ratings.  That’s the magic word.  So the best thing to do is present the news in such a way that it will agree with the largest percentage of viewers.

This is routinely done on shows that are presenting themselves as news programs, but in the end, are simply another form of entertainment in which the news (such as it is) is presented in the form of group/guest dialogue.

Today, I was watching CNN and of course noticed that the anchor (I forget who she is, but she is a staple on CNN during the midday; I looked up the anchors but didn’t recognize her because there are a lot of attractive brunette anchors), did what she could to portray the right as definitely losing the battle or edge against Mr. Obama.  After discussing one aspect of the news and how the Republicans have even come out and congratulated Mr. Obama for taking the action he did, she closed with “but I’m sure they’ll find something else to complain about and we’ll be covering that story here as well.”

Well the truth of the matter is that Mr. Obama makes it incredibly easy to find things to complain about regarding his presidential policies and actions.

He decided to visit Ground Zero today (something he has not done since 2008) to lay a wreath at the site and to talk about how strong America is and how terrorists should think twice before attacking us (my paraphrase).  That’s all well and good, but why are we hearing reports that Mr. Obama did not initially want to go after bin Laden at all?

CNN also mentioned that Mr. Obama is flying out tomorrow to personally congratulate the Navy Seals who were directly involved in the operation that brought down bin Laden.  That’s nice, but doesn’t it appear as though Mr. Obama is stretching this event out for all its worth?

It seems to be working because as this same CNN anchor reported, Mr. Obama’s popularity has increased by 11 points. While the anchor thought this was a slam dunk, fortunately the guest she had on woke her up to the reality that there is no such thing as a slam dunk in politics.  What is popular today is not tomorrow.

But my question remains: why is this event being so highly politicized by Mr. Obama (and again, even the guest on the CNN program admitted that this is a photo-op that Mr. Obama is taking advantage of and will likely continue to do so.

Yesterday, while watching O’Reilly (and he is not my favorite simply because he appears so smarmy and too often interrupts the people he invites on his show), his guest was Juan Williams (fired from PBS and hired by FOX).  Williams was upset that people want to take credit away from Mr. Obama to give it to Bush.

I have to admit that I like what O’Reilly said when he pointed out that Williams was sounding like a hysterical liberal.  If reports are true that Mr. Obama did not want to go after bin Laden, but then “saw the light,” and okay’d the mission under duress, what is there to credit Mr. Obama with here?

As pointed out previously, Rumsfeld indicated that the initial intel gathered by the U.S. was due to waterboarding of three suspects.  This, along with all other enhanced interrogation techniques was eliminated by Mr. Obama not long after he became president.  Had it not been for the waterboarding, we would not have gained the evidence that eventually led our military directly to bin Laden.

So should George W. Bush be given any credit here at all?  Of course, and in essence, more of the credit goes to him than to Mr. Obama.  But all that aside, the fact that bin Laden was caught is remarkable.

I have to smile when I hear people say that FOX lies.  They accuse FOX of lying because they do not agree with what they are reporting.  They need to wake up to the fact that every news bureau slants the news.  CNN does it.  HLN does it.  FOX does it.  PBS certainly does it.

All that means is that the average American needs to search much harder for the truth and not simply hear what is being said and go, “Oh, that’s FOX – they lie” or “It’s on CNN, so it must be true.”  These are irrational and false statements.

It’s the same thing as saying that people who criticize Mr. Obama hate him, therefore they must be racists.  There is no logic in that statement at all, but leftheads don’t need logic.  They simply need to hear what they want to hear, whether it’s true or not.
