Mr. Obama Seems to Lack the Understanding Needed to Reduce Debt

Mr. Obama gave a speech today to those who support his efforts. He wants to push for more infrastructure jobs, the type of jobs that fix roads, but certainly not limited to that.
The difficulty of course, is that these type of jobs do NOT really create good jobs with NEW money. They create jobs with TAX PAYER dollars. It’s not as if these jobs are created by the private sector, in which tax dollars are not the source of paychecks being cut for individuals.
However, in Mr. Obama’s case, he is pushing for jobs to be created that have to do with America’s infrastructure and since most of those areas are defined and governed by the Federal Gov’t (DOT – Department of Transportation), etc., then it is clear that the money to pay for workers comes directly from tax payer dollars.
While this certainly puts some people to work, it also by its very nature, increases the tax burden and debt which is already well into the trillions of dollars. In 2009, Mr. Obama said that he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. That has not happened, but one thing he has been consistent about is blaming George W. Bush for the problems we face today.
Mr. Obama was also busy leaning on Congress and especially the GOP today in his speech because he is insisting that Congress creates and passes a jobs bill. That would be fine, but to simply create infrastructure jobs where the economy comes under greater governmental enforcement, the problem is merely exacerbated.
If the only thing the government can do is create jobs that rely on tax payer dollars, then while that might help some people, overall, it ultimately winds up helping no one. In order for the government to pay the people whose jobs have been created by leaning more heavily on infrastructure, new taxes will have to be levied, or the government will go further into debt. Neither of these solutions is a real solution. Both simply push America toward greater debt. Eventually, everything comes tumbling down.
Of course, the largest problem is that some who want these jobs will become angry when the GOP or anyone else decides that this is not what our country needs (jobs, yes; taxes and greater debt, no). Because of this, once again, people will simply parrot the often heard phrase that the Republicans are the “party of no.” They are the party of no for several reasons:
- Mr. Obama has not come up with anything on his own, but relies on Congress to introduce bills (I realize that the president does not make law, but making some tangible suggestions is not out of place)
- Liberals and Democrats see no problem with continuing to spend more than we have and more than we take in
- The GOP and conservatives want fiscal responsibility, not more debt for this country
The truth is that creating jobs that are supported by the government creates NO new, REAL jobs. These jobs need our taxes to exist and survive. We cannot afford it and it we cannot afford the debt these jobs create.
Private sector jobs are the ones which create REAL jobs based on private companies who are supported by CONSUMERS, not tax dollars. Why doesn’t our government seem to get that? Moreover, why are people so blind to the fact that if the average person lived as the government “lives” – increasing their personal debt daily – everyone would be in bankruptcy!
One individual told me that “our government is large so it will always be spending more than it takes in.” This to me, is absolute nonsense. It is large because of the entitlement programs with new ones seemingly being added daily. Certainly it does not matter to people who are on the entitlement programs if the government spends more than it takes in because all that is important to them is that they continue to receive their freebies. Do they honestly believe that taxpayers have bottomless pockets? It has to stop somewhere.
In the end, Mr. Obama offered nothing to us. He passed the buck to Congress in stating that it is up to them (and particularly the GOP) to create jobs and his suggestion is to create jobs that build up America’s infrastructure. Well, he said that a few years ago too and he did nothing then, but apparently he believes if he repeats himself, then people will think he’s saying it for the first time? Who knows how he thinks…
Of course, it helps when you have son of Hoffa issuing the rally cry that people need to go after the Tea Party and it helps to throw in an expletive here and there as that gauntlet is thrown down. Let’s see…one more time for people who still have not gotten it…the Tea Party wants:
- a smaller government
- fiscal responsibility
- a balanced budget amendment
- massive debt reduction
Because of those four things, the Tea Party is referred to as “racist.” I don’t get the connection. In fact, if I went to the bank to take out a loan and I had bills like our Federal Gov’t has bills, I would be told to:
- eliminate my debt
- develop a budget and stick to it
- stop spending more than I take in
- wait until my credit score rises
We all know how that works with banks. We understand that and whether we like it or not, that’s the way it is when dealing with consumers. Why should our government be any different? Why should it be allowed to spend, spend, spend with money it does not have (no worries, just print some more with no gold to back it up!)? When it overspends, it simply turns the screws to the people who actually pay their share of taxes and demands more.
Mr. Obama’s “plan” – such as it is – for new jobs is not a plan at all. It is a misdirect in an attempt to get everyone to take their eyes off him and put it on Congress. When Congress is unable to come to an agreement – conservatives don’t want NEW programs that will rely on tax dollars and liberals will continue to push for MORE programs that require new tax dollars – the GOP and the Tea Party will be blamed. It’s ridiculous, but there it is and even IF the GOP and Tea Party went along with the president’s job idea, it would merely put this country further into debt, which would eventually result in the death of our economy altogether.
The most interesting thing is that liberals want to add more tax-based programs and conservatives want to eliminate at least some of them. The two sides will never meet because of their particular viewpoints.
What this country needs are PRIVATE sector jobs, jobs which rely mainly on consumer money, not government money. When THOSE types of jobs are created, that is when the economy grows and debt is often reduced. When government jobs are created, the debt grows and the economy stalls because of it.
What a leader we have in the Oval Office. I think if he had his druthers, he would play all day and do nothing for this country, which if true, is a pretty sad state of affairs. There is virtually no leadership coming from the Oval Office. All we are getting are platitudes and buck passing. It needs to stop, but I just get the strong impression that the man who sits in his office on the second floor of the White House, above the Oval Office, could absolutely care less about what happens to this country or its economy. Such is the problem when everything is given to someone. They wind up caring about nothing except what pleases them. Unfortunately, this is not the job description of the president of the United States, at least, until this particular president took office.
