A Cloud of Dread

July 8, 2012 at 3:23 PM 10 comments

For the past few weeks, I was in California because my mother was in the hospital.  Once she was discharged, my wife and I made arrangements to move her into an assisted living facility where all of her medical needs would be well taken care of.  I look back over the past two weeks and I am amazed at how much God accomplished in and through me.  I have told friends repeatedly that it felt as though I was simply riding a wave; a wave whose direction and speed was completely predetermined by God Himself.  My job was to cling to the board that carried me along.  God did an absolutely amazing job of carrying me.  I am marveling at it.

In the short space of two weeks, all the legal paperwork was taken care of, my mom’s car was sold in one day and her house went into escrow the same week it was listed.  Generally speaking, I was alert, able to function very clearly and simply did was what on the “to do” list, crossing off each item as it occurred.  It is difficult to remember another time in my life when things went so smoothly and God was so obviously in charge.  I am very grateful.

Now I’m back home and back in the saddle so to speak.  I’m getting ready for another week of writing, recording, and preparing sermons.  I am also becoming well aware of the fact that once again, I am feeling overwhelmed with a feeling of evil.  Yes, evil.  It was a feeling that existed prior to going out to California and now that I have returned, it is back.

I have tried to push this away for so long that I have simply gotten used to the fact that it lays there, lurking in the background, like a pulsating vat of some deadly radioactive chemical.  There seems to be nothing I can do to remove myself from it or it from me.  I read His Word, I pray Scripture, I direct my thoughts, and still, that palpable evil continues unabated, having latched onto me like some computer virus that appears to be unshakable.

In fact, this evil is more like dread.  I have been thinking about it, praying about it, and doing my level best to ignore it, but I can’t.  There is something there that I must consider and face.

I do not like to be negative.  I don’t enjoy dealing with things that cause my mind to wander toward the dark side.  I try to resist the things that want to bring me down, but simply resisting them in this case is not enough.  It appears that something is on the horizon that is slowly, steadily, encroaching over the face of the land.  It is swallowing it up and with it, logic.  I have noticed that people in general do not think logically anymore.  They have become enamored with lies.

It is all born of a delusion and a delusion that seems unstoppable.  I am a spectator to what is covering the world.  I see it.  I am aware of it, but am fully powerless to do anything to stop it.  Even attempting to point it out to others seems like a thankless task.  Most don’t want to hear about it.  Most are too concerned about their own lives to want to stop and hear about some tremendous evil that is quickly overtaking life at all levels.  Most already have enough negativity on their plates to force them to stop their ears when it comes to hearing anything that appears to them to be more of the same.

There is a tremendous push from certain quarters in this country – America – to overcome the evil that is quickly overtaking the land.  People are tired of this administration and all that it is attempting to do.  They want their country back.  They want judges to recognize the law of the land created by the Bill of Rights and the U. S. Constitution.  They don’t want to hear anything more from activist judges who are reinterpreting the law to suit themselves, when the law is plain already.

There are a number of grassroots efforts underway like the Tea Party and other conservative groups who simply want to restore the principles that this country was founded upon.  Forget whether our Founding Fathers were Deists, Freemasons, Mystics, or something else entirely.  It is clear that the principles that they knew and used are based on Scripture.  Yet, it is also clear to me that these men were thoroughly involved in the esoteric, but since God’s Word does not come back to Him void, the truth of the matter is that whether or not these men knew all the ramifications of what they were attempting to accomplish or not, the Bible was really the guts of this nation.  That is no longer the case.  It has been pushed aside, replaced with some atheistic ideology that threatens not only to destroy this country, but the lives of millions of people who live here.  That makes sense since we know that the fool has said in his heart there is no God.  People who think like this are the real problem children because ultimately, their god is themselves and they will do anything they can to serve that god.

Socialists, communists, and liberals alike are doing all they can to reject the notion that this country had at its core, the Bible.  It is not that they do not believe history.  It is that they are trying to overwrite history with something else entirely.  The goal is to make a one-world government out of many nations.  That is their goal and they see it as the very thing that will save humanity.

Unfortunately, the people who are engineering that effort – if successful – will wind up being in positions to benefit the most.  The rest of us will simply become cogs in the machinery that they oversee and use to their advantage.  Make no mistake.  The super-rich will still be quite wealthy.  They have no intention of giving up their wealth.  If they did, they would have done that already.  They haven’t and the most they do is pretend that they are somehow “one” with the common person.  They’re not.  Not even close.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 says this:  “But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,  unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power.”

Anyone with half a brain can see that this is exactly what we are experiencing now.  Life is not pleasant.  Racism appears to be at an all-time high with mobs of young black people most recently disrupting 4th of July celebrations across the United States.  While these events were reported somewhat in the mainstream media, they were careful to not point out that the perpetrators were black.  That was left to eye-witnesses and many of them uploaded videos with their comments on the ‘Net.  A number of them were also black, criticizing the racial confrontations created by others within the black community.

People like Chris Rock and other black celebrities added to the problem by “tweeting” comments saying that the slaves are not free and that July 4th is a white man’s celebration.  Obviously, some history lessons are in order, but that would be a waste of time on people who are thoroughly racist and see racism under every rock.

Since moving to the south, I have experienced racism, something that I did not experience all the years of living in California.  It is a strange feeling to deal with people who hate you because of the color of your skin.  The strangest part is that these people are young.  They are from this current generation of people who believe that they are entitled to handouts from the government.  They believe that the “white” man owes them and this is what they proudly proclaim as often as possible.  Their cheerleaders, like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and members of the New Black Panthers continually belt out their rants that promote the beating and killing of white people if for no other reason than the fact that they are white.  Our government stands by and does nothing.  Often the police are outnumbered.

Beyond racism, the economy seems to be barely moving along.  It is caving in under its own weight and no one in Washington either has the brains, the desire, or the know-how to undo what Mr. Obama and those of his ilk are intent on doing.  They seem to be standing around, holding their hands, wondering when it will all stop.  It won’t stop until they do something to stop it.

Mr. Obama, as president, he has issued more directives (executive orders) than any other president in recent history.  While these orders are supposed to be directed to those within the Federal Gov’t, they are also supposed to uphold the established rule of law.  This is not the case with the many orders that Mr. Obama has signed and in too many cases, these same orders have become equal to law.  In essence, Mr. Obama is ruling as if he were a dictator and too many in this country (including the media) remains dutifully blind to that fact.

As if this was not all enough, we are experiencing the exponential growth (and protection) of Islam.  Here in America, we are starting to see what happens when Muslims gain strength in numbers so that they do not believe they need to obey the law of the land.  They believe they have a higher calling to obey Sharia law in honor of Allah.  They believe that it is perfectly fine to pelt Christians in Dearborn, MI (yes, in America) with rocks, eggs, and other things while the police do absolutely nothing to protect citizens of this country.

Moreover, many Muslims believe that their so-called honor killings done in foreign countries can now be done on American soil because once again, they look not to the U.S. Constitution, but to Sharia for their cues.  Our politicians are in collusion with them by ignoring what they do, or even going so far as to grant them permission to live as if they still lived in their own country where Sharia law is the law that governs their land.

The Gay agenda has become far more pronounced and militant.  You will accept as normal men marrying men and women marrying women, whether you like it or not.  If you are unable to accept it as normal, you will shut up about it or quite possibly be fined or go to jail.  Maybe both.

I’ve asked myself why this is so?  Why is this happening?  I believe Paul begins to answer that question in his letter to the Thessalonians.  In fact, what Paul tells us should send shivers up and down our spines because it is this one thing that is created all of the problems mentioned above.  It truly is one underlying ideal that is creating the many faces of evil on display in society worldwide.  The root is the same source, though it appears in many different forms.

In 2 Thessalonians 2:7-10, Paul tells his readers, “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.”

Paul is quite clear here when he says that the “mystery of lawlessness is already at work.”  It was at work in his day and it is clearly at work in our day.  This mystery of lawlessness will one day reveal the final man of sin, who, as Paul says, will ultimately be killed with the breath of Jesus at His return.  With one word, He will kill the Antichrist.  For all the bluster and power he will wield, the Antichrist will be absolutely no match for Jesus, who will destroy him with but a word.  Though he will have ruled the world on a global level and amassed millions of troops to his side, having his way with citizens of this planet and killing anyone who stands in his way, he will be no match for Jesus Christ, the Living God.

I fully and firmly believe that this is what we are up against today.  This is what is spreading across the land.  It is palpable.  It is undeniable.  It is here.  This mystery of lawlessness is working toward that final reveal of the one man of sin who will do all that he can to overcome all flesh and attempt to keep Jesus from returning, all the while proclaiming himself to be god.

From the Christian’s perspective, this is absolutely nuts!  The gall of this coming Antichrist who will believe so strongly that he will be able to overcome God Himself, that he will actually try to accomplish it is startling on the surface!  Yet, this is what will occur in this world.  How do we know?  Because the apostle Paul just told us.

But WHY?  Why is this lawlessness spreading and why does it appear that it has gained ground so quickly within the borders of the United States and elsewhere?  How could we allow this to happen?  Where is common sense and logic?  Paul answers that question in the last verse of the above-quoted text.  The people who are duped into thinking that there is nothing wrong with Islam and that it truly is a religion of peace, or who believe that racism needs to be fought by harming innocent people, or who believe that Mr. Obama is the best president this country has ever had, “did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.”  Paul is very clear here.  People today do not want the truth at all.  As Pilate did in Jesus’ day, people today ask sardonically, “what is truth?”  The implication is that truth is changing, depending upon the day or the situation.  It is not a constant as God states, but merely adapts itself to the norms of any given society on any given day.

God says just the opposite.  Truth is truth and there is only one truth.  People don’t want to hear that at all.  They want to be able to do what they want to do when they want to do it and rules should not matter; certainly not rules based on the truth of God’s Word.

So today, we have a society that has nearly completely abandoned truth as revealed by God.  No one is interested anymore.  Truth has just about gone with the wind or the dinosaur.  It is expendable.

At the same time today, there are many who believe that if only “America” will repent, then all will be well.  Theoretically, that is certainly possible, though I’m still not sure what it means to say that America should repent.  Does that mean our leaders?  I’m assuming so since any country is defined by its leaders.  Does that mean the people here?  Also yes.

The problem though is that we learn from Paul why people believe what they believe and it is this very thing that keeps people from coming around to see God’s side of things.  In effect, they do not want to see God’s side of things.  Because they do not want to see God’s side of things, there is no chance of them turning TO Him through repentance.  That can only happen if/when He opens their eyes.  Since they are so resolutely opposed to Him, that won’t be soon happening.  They are moving in the opposite direction.

Paul’s most damning statement follows directly on the heels of verse 10 when he says, “For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness,” (2 Thessalonians 2:11).

For WHAT reason?  It is for the reasons outlined in the previous verses.  It is because people want to desperately believe falsehoods that God says, “Fine, go for it!” and literally throws them over to it.  The sense here is a violent throwing over or a pushing away.  People don’t want the truth?  Okay, God will give them what they want and they will enjoy every bit of evil lie because they fought so hard to reject the truth.  Of course, they really won’t enjoy it, but will initially think that they will be free to do so.

I wish I could believe that this country will turn around.  I wish I could see a coming day when evil will be once again held at bay.  Unfortunately, I don’t see that and no, I’m not a prophet or a seer.  I am simply someone who is all-too aware of his surroundings and is appalled by the things I see.  The sheer vastness and depth of the approaching evil has left my tongue clinging to the roof of my mouth in utter dismay.  Certainly, this November could change things, but in my heart, I’m thinking it won’t.

These may simply seem like words to you, but it’s all I’ve got in order to explain what I’m experiencing and possibly seeing.  I wish I could ignore what I seem to be sensing.  I would love to be able to go through life with blinders on so that I did not have to sense such a strong approach of evil.  It is – at times – nearly overwhelming.  It is not something I can ignore and I really wish I could ignore it.

The dread is approaching very quickly.  People will still be saved.  Some will call out to God in Christ and receive His salvation.  Will He save this country?  It is impossible to say.  Even if this country elects a new president this November, some of the things that have been done will be hard to undo and it’s quite possible that the other alternative to Mr. Obama is not as conservative as some would like to believe.

So what is the Christian to do in light of all this information?  We only have one direction in which to move and that is to continue in God’s will whatever happens.  We cannot move to the left or to the right.  We must not shrink in fear.  We must not give up the fight for souls.

I think it’s very possible that too many Christians are involved in attempting to turn this country around when they should be firmly involved in the Great Commission.  I think it’s entirely possible that Satan has used politics to take authentic Christians off course.  Too many have placed the needs of this country above the needs of the unsaved.

It is abundantly clear from Scripture that evil is going to fully overtake this world eventually.  Even with that, God’s timing and purposes are fully in control, though it may appear as though He is not.

In speaking through the prophet Isaiah, God said the following:  “I am the first and I am the last, And there is no God besides Me. ‘Who is like Me? Let him proclaim and declare it; Yes, let him recount it to Me in order, From the time that I established the ancient nation.  And let them declare to them the things that are coming And the events that are going to take place. ‘Do not tremble and do not be afraid; Have I not long since announced it to you and declared it? And you are My witnesses. Is there any God besides Me, Or is there any other Rock? I know of none,’” (Isaiah 44:6-8).

I am starting to feel like those Christians from the first century who resorted to drawing symbols of fish in the dirt to signal to other Christians where they could gather for fellowship and worship.  No, it’s not that bad yet, but it is getting there.  By the way, when it does, I wonder how many “Christians” will quickly remove those fish symbols from their vehicles and stop wearing T-shirts with Christian slogans?

We are quickly approaching a time when it will be more important than ever to be as gentle as doves and as wise as serpents.  We must depend upon God now more than ever.  Realistically, we should always be relying on God because He is the only One who can save us, empower us, and direct our steps.  But now is not the time to fight against this approaching supernatural evil with natural means.

God still wants to work in and through us.  He wants to see others come to know Him and to be in relationship with Him.  There are many who need salvation and that is far more important than seeing America turned around.  In fact, I would hasten to say that if persecution teaches us anything, it teaches us that the fires of persecution go a long way in purifying us and helping us become far more dedicated to God’s purposes than when everything seems fine.  When I say “purifying” us, I mean mentally and emotionally.  We are already pure as far as God is concerned because we have been washed in the blood of a precious Savior.  However, we do not live like that.  Our minds are often not alert for action.  They are not consistently dedicated to the task of living to serve Him.  Our emotions are often pulled in a variety of directions.

When the economy is good, when societal problems are at a minimum, who needs God?  It is way too easy to ignore Him then and allow our commitment to the Great Commission slip.  It is far too easy to live life on our own terms.  This we must not do and God of course, knows this, which is one of the biggest reasons He sends persecution in the first place.  He doesn’t enjoy doing that, but He knows that it is through the fires of persecution that Christians learn once and for all to place Him first, above all things.  That includes our country.  Nothing should replace God.  Nothing should push Him out of first place.  Too many things have done that though.  He knows what is good for us.  He knows how to glorify Himself, whether we can fully understand it or not.

Live to serve God.  Live to put all things at His feet.  Live to bring glory to His Name.  Now, more than ever.

When Cops Go Rogue I Wish I Could…

My brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus,
I certainly share your frustration. For me, it seems as though the United States is like the Titanic in many ways. We’ve prayed for years for a turn around, for revival. Since I became a Christian in 1979, we have prayed this way. Yet things continue to get darker in this world. I have not felt led to pray for America to turn around in the last year, maybe two. I pray, but differently. Some say its a lack of faith if we give up praying this way. But like the Titanic, when it first hit the iceberg, many probably prayed for God to save the ship. At some point, facing reality, they had to decide to get into the lifeboats. That was what saved them. Could God have plugged the huge hole, emptied the ship of water and restored them on their journey? Of course, He is God. But He did not.

At some point we may have to realize that America is sinking, get into the lifeboat, and take as many with us as we can. I somehow feel we are at this critical point. I may be wrong. Each has to ask God for him/her self.

I do not see a political change helping at all. Do we not know (research this stuff) that no matter who wins the office of President that they (NWO) are still controlling behind the scenes? It is the government behind the government controlling what we see.

Yes, God is sovereign, always will be. But if we are truly in the last days, and I would guess most believers know this in their heart, then we know full well, no government on the face of the earth will save us.

I think books that say “pray for a turn around” at this point, are a bit like the band aboard the Titanic that played music until the last minute. Yes, they were trying to bring comfort to people in a desperate situation, but it must have seemed bizarre in comparison to what was actually going on around them. This is nothing more than a distraction.

Are we really in peril because of a covenant that George Washington made with God, and now we have broken it? Wasn’t Washington a Mason?! What kind of covenant would that have been? No, America is in sin, as is the rest of the world and is ignoring God and rejecting His Son, Jesus. I feel that it is time to get into the lifeboats (read His Word, stay focused on Him, pray and hang on to His truth) and take as many with us as we can (preach the gospel to the lost).

May God keep believers from deception in these last days, it’s rampant.

God bless you all and keep you in His constant care, and thanks for listening.

Thanks very much for writing, Dee. I appreciate your thoughts and share your concerns.

Thank you, Dr. Fred. Have encountered similar rejection by Christians. They don’t want to hear the truth, they want to believe that the ideals that America was founded upon will ultimately “save” us, that things will turn around. I remind them that there is only one Redeemer, Christ Jesus, and things will not improve until He returns. Their claim is if we collectively repent then things will change, declaring 2 Chron. 7:14 as their saving verse. As far as I can tell, that promise pertains to Israel, not the USA. Then my faith is called into question, I’m called a pessimist, am told “I have my hopes and dreams” by those who do not wish to read the writing on the wall. Meanwhile, distractions abound on every level. Keeping people willfully ignorant to the truth of what is really going on around them. There is a law of entropy at play and the rate of acceleration is growing exponentially on every possible level. Seems the general Christian populace only wants to hear “good news”, not reality. If we could collectively wake up to what’s really going down, then we can become effective as a body in reaching the communities around us. It’s hard to do so when the body, as a whole, is actively sleeping……

      Hi Cheryl,

Thanks very much for your thoughts. Good to know others are encountering the same type of problems. I think this is why so many books that have popularized the idea that “if only America will repent” have been so widely received.

It seems ironic though, when you compare these books with Scripture. I don’t think that America needs to be saved in order for PEOPLE to be saved. In fact, if we look at the multitudes of individuals who will be saved during the Tribulation (Revelation 7), it seems clear that their salvation was due in part, to the level of persecution they sustained.

God is Victor – we know that. He is far more interested in saving people and I’m confident that He will do that.

God has been speaking to me about this very thing lately. I’m going to go change my blog’s background so I will remember what is of utmost importance. I hope you will see the post of mine that this post has been posted on. It has my thoughts there, too, on what you have written.

Yes, there is a cloud of dread over this nation that only God’s children can sense because they have the truth in them to discern it.

    Thanks for this post~
