Second Presidential Debate…

Pundits across the aisle are declaring Mr. Obama a winner of last night’s debate.  I think they’re mainly doing that due to the fact that Mr. Obama did come across as more aggressive in last night’s debate.  This was most definitely a step up from his last performance.  He was able to speak without faltering in general and certainly seemed as though he had answers.

However, it must also be noted that Mr. Obama lied on several occasions and at one point, which was undoubtedly the low point of the debate, moderator Candy Crowley actually stepped away from her role as moderator and came to Mr. Obama’s defense regarding his absolutely atrocious handling of the Libya situation.  We’ll get to that in a moment.

There were – unfortunately – so many lies on Mr. Obama’s part, that I really lost count.  One had to do with – again – Romney’s alleged tax plan to cut 5 TRILLION dollars across the board.  In spite of the fact that Mr. Obama offered nothing more than Romney “said it,” there was nothing concrete that provided the proof that this is in fact, what Romney wants to do.  Romney took pains to explain what his plan actually consisted of and it makes sense.  Whether he will be able to do it once he is elected is another story though.

Another lie was that Obamacare and Romney’s healthcare program for Massachusetts are the same.  This is garbage.  They are NOT the same and anyone who truly wants to know the differences in these two plans can easily look up the facts on the Internet.  I don’t have the time or space to go into it.  Though Mr. Obama’s team STARTED with Romney’s healthcare package, they changed it considerably before coming up with what is now called “Obamacare.”

Mr. Obama also lied about his support of the 2nd Amendment.  Though he SAYS he supports it, his actions and votes indicate otherwise.  This particular link explains it very clearly: http://www.thepoliticalguide.com/Profiles/President/US/Barack_Obama/Views/The_Second_Amendment/

There are also many who believe that “Fast and Furious” was this administration’s attempt to shock Americans into believing that greater gun-control is what this country needs.  I fully believe that this is exactly why Obama has sought to protect Eric Holder, even claiming “executive privilege.”  This is in spite of the fact that at one point, Mr. Obama clearly stated he knew nothing of the program at all. [1]  If he actually knew nothing of the program, then hiding behind executive privilege is merely a ruse to protect Holder.

I believe it was hoped that Fast and Furious would create an outcry in America to tighten controls on gun sales.  He has (according to the above link) stated that he would like to ban ALL handguns and ammo.  Beyond this, Eric Holder – in a video – stated that he thought brainwashing children AWAY from guns and violence was the way to go, or at least one way in which to create a greater desire to resist guns.

The problem with Fast and Furious and simply the way the Obama administration thinks, is that criminals could not care less about any new laws.  They are completely unaffected by them.  They obtain the guns they want, when they want them.  They do not purchase guns legally at all.  They are outside the venue of legal control, therefore any and all anti-gun laws simply create a greater burden for law-abiding citizens.  Everyone knows this, including anti-gun people.  They refuse to admit it because they would then be seen for what they are – individuals who are trying their darndest to eliminate the 2nd Amendment altogether.

Another area in which Mr. Obama lied was with the oil drilling permits.  It is CLEAR that the issuing of these permits has all but dried up under Mr. Obama’s watch.  The idea that he has provided more than Bush is ludicrous and the facts speak for themselves.  Mr. Obama’s seeming war on energy in this country has been duly noted.  Every solar-energy company that he has wantonly given taxpayer dollars to in the realm of millions of dollars has gone belly up.  Even the company that makes batteries for the Chevy Volt has begun laying off employees.

Mr. Obama’s energy polices have closed coal mine after coal mine, yet he says he wants to concentrate on “clean coal” and to make our country independent.  You cannot create “clean coal” by essentially putting coal mining companies out of business.

He has nixed the Canadian pipeline, which would have created jobs here in this country.  He says we have enough pipelines to go around the world several times.  That’s not the point and he cleverly did not really say if he was referring to pipelines in the US or in the entire world when he made that point.  Most pipelines have nothing to do with the U.S. directly.  More and more coal miners are turning to Romney because he – rather than cutting the nose off to spite the face – sees great potential in energy resources throughout America.  Just ask the people in North Dakota, as merely one example.

Mr. Obama also tried to take Romney to task for his 401k program, saying that though Romney sounds tough on China, he has investments there.  Romney also rightly pointed out that Obama needs to check his own 401k program because he also likely has investments in/with Chinese companies.  Obama’s joke that Romney’s 401k is “bigger” than his was pointless, except for the Obama-supporters in the audience.

On that note, why is anyone arguing about how much these candidates are worth?  I realize Mr. Obama likes to appear as someone who can appreciate the common person, but his own personal wealth is nearly $10 million.  If we couple that with the fact that in less than four years as president, he has taken 16 vacations, with many of them individually totaling well into the millions for each.  His one vacation to Hawaii cost taxpayers more than $4 million dollars.  He is no more able to equate himself with the common man than most politicians.

Nancy Pelosi is worth nearly $40 million dollars and also HAS offshore investments.  In spite of this, she decided to call out Romney for his.  Harry Reid is not on par with Mr. Obama, having a worth of roughly $5 million.  Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’ worth is somewhat hidden [2], but it is also known that she had offshore investments, though she was railing against Romney for his.  The point is that too many politicians on both sides of the aisle have a net worth that runs into the millions.  Most politicians cannot relate to the average person at all, though they certainly try to do that for their own political gain.  Too many politicians have also spent their entire lives on the government doles as politicians.  Romney has not.  He understands business and I believe him when he says he will get a balanced budget, something that Mr. Obama has not done and even when he submitted his own budget proposal, not even ONE Democrat on the hill voted in favor of it.

Though Mr. Obama and his team have attempted to paint Romney as a corporate raider, it is more clear – once the actual facts are known – that he actually created over 100,000 jobs while at Bain Capital. [3]  Those on the Left will do whatever it takes – even stretching the truth or lying – to achieve their goals of defaming Romney.

In truth, Mr. Obama is in a job for which he has absolutely no business qualifications.  He was never governor and his stint as senator was short.  He has never worked a real job in his life, choosing to be a community organizer and politician instead.  I call it government welfare with tons of perks.

What we saw last night was Mr. Obama borrowing from Joe Biden during the vice-presidential debate.  There, we saw that Biden was rude, flippant, and completely disrespectful toward Ryan.  In last night’s debate, Mr. Obama had no problem interrupting Romney on several occasions, essentially calling him a liar (“That’s not true, Governor”).  The moderator did nothing to intervene.

Mr. Obama was more aggressive.  He continues to lack substance and most importantly, the facts are not on his side.  His record speaks for itself and though he tries to continue to blame Bush, the problem has to do with the fact that Mr. Obama promised to do several things in his first year as president and in his first term as president.  He has not done them, as Romney rightly pointed out.

Though Mr. Obama would like to blame the GOP for their inability to work with him, the facts clearly show that the GOP was not even an issue for the first part of his term.  Mr. Obama enjoyed a majority Democratic House and Senate.  He essentially got what he wanted, including Obamacare.

Mr. Obama failed to honor his commitments and since he had no real record in 2008, he said many things that people literally ate up.  He has failed to come through on a number of those promises and in fact, he did not even attempt to do so.  His record stands as one that has failed the American people.

Last night’s debate was moderated by someone who supports Mr. Obama.  That’s fine.  I think it would be difficult to get someone in there who is truly unbiased.  However, there is no excuse for Candy Crowley to actually inject her opinion – which turned out to be wrong – into the debate.  That is NOT the moderator’s job.  The moderator’s job is to keep things moving and on track.  She stopped being a moderator and became a shill for Mr. Obama at that point. Beyond this, Mr. Obama had roughly three minutes MORE of total talk time, over Romney, according to CNN.

Though Crowley has desperately tried to explain the situation away – first pointing to Obama, then stating that both Romney and Obama expected her to say something – the truth of the matter is that she clearly overstepped her boundaries.  Might as well throw all pretense away next time and simply ask Chris “Tingly Leg” Matthews to moderate the debate.  In that case, Mr. Obama would not even really need to show up.  Matthews would cover for him nicely.

Depending upon who you ask, either Mr. Obama won or the debate was a draw.  The real poll will be seen in November, on the day people vote.

One thing remains clear.  The Left is running seriously scared.  Reports have shown that after last night’s debate, threats to assassinate Mr. Romney have skyrocketed.  The reason?  People actually think (using the term loosely) that Romney, if elected president, will take away Food Stamps from them. [4]  He has never stated that.  He has never intimated that.  What he has said is that there are too many people on Welfare because they cannot get jobs!  The lack of jobs is solely due to the fact that the Obama administration has done nothing to provide them.  Mr. Romney wants to get people back to work!  If they are working, they will not need Food Stamps.  It’s that simple, but for some, working is out of the question, I guess.  This is not a national news story though.  However, if the tables were turned, and the threats were coming against Mr. Obama, I have no doubt that it would be.  This is what the Left tried to do with the “empty chair” from Clint Eastwood’s remarks at the RNC.  It wasn’t long before the Left started claiming that people wanted to “lynch blacks.”  It makes absolutely no sense, but this campaign has been anything but something that makes sense.

The level of vitriol and hateful rhetoric has been incessant.  The Left is quick to protect Mr. Obama in spite of his lies and inability to answer straight questions.  It will certainly ramp up as we move closer to November 6th.

Romney tried to keep things above-board in last night’s debate.  He attempted to answer questions by pointing out facts.  Mr. Obama, rather than deal with facts, simply chose to use ad hominem attacks by referring to Romney as a liar when he was absolutely not lying.  He had a helper in his corner, in the form of Candy Crowley who came to bat for him just when Romney was trying to make cogent points regarding the Libya situation.  It worked because it shut down the conversation and Romney was effectively cut off.

Yes, Mr. Obama showed verve and brass.  He gets points for being aggressive and even rude.  He gets nothing for the lack of facts surrounding the points he tried to make.

Romney could have done better.  I think he was trying to think about how he was going to respond to Obama, rather than simply responding to him.  In other words, Romney seemed concerned about talking points, when he should have gone for the full-on verbal attack.  Mr. Obama left himself open on numerous occasions with the 2nd Amendment, Bain Capital, taxes, the economy, and healthcare.  He shook his head when Romney rightly pointed out that the Middle Class will have an additional $2,500+ in taxes in 2013 due to Obamacare.  Mr. Obama can shake his head all he wants, but that is exactly what is going to happen in 2013 unless Romney is elected and repeals Obamacare.  The Middle Class will be taxed again, in spite of Mr. Obama’s promise to NOT tax anyone making less than $250,00 annually.  Obama prefers to call this a “penalty” but even the Supreme Court referred to it as a “tax.”  It IS a tax and it will take effect next year if things do not change.

We’ll see what the next debate holds.  Hopefully, there will be a better moderator.  Hopefully, Romney will be allowed to make his points and hopefully, he will not let up on Obama and his terrible record with respect to the economy for America, as well as his disastrous foreign policy, such as it is.
