Just Say It’s ART!

artWas reading some of the posts on a social network and there was a cartoon showing how offended someone was as they passed by x-rated shops without a problem, but then saw a nativity scene.  I’ve included the cartoon and you may have seen it as well.

One of the posters who responded to the cartoon – by the name of Brad – said that he had heard of an idea to call nativity scenes art.  This would do one of two things.  1) allow it stand on its own because after all, art is protected under free speech, or 2) cause people to start questioning what is agreed to actually be art.

Truth is that people – liberals mainly – have absolutely no problem with allowing some “artist” to drop a crucifix into a jar of urine.  That’s okay.  It’s “legitimate” art by most standards today.  However, during the Christmas season, just about any nativity will set off atheists, sending them into convulsions of shock and awe, especially those nativity scenes that are actually situated on public property.  Big no-no.

But what if those nativity scenes or the plethora of crosses that tend to offend are simply deemed art?  What then?  If a state or federal grant allows for other types of imagery that offends Christians but is considered art, why can’t nativity scenes and crosses that offend atheists also be considered valuable examples of artwork too?

I like the idea and maybe more Christians and churches should start using that label when they put up nativity scenes, crosses, or other things that represent Christianity.  At least if it’s called art, then even though atheists might still have a problem, it would be very difficult for them to pursue a legal challenge because it doesn’t represent Christianity specifically, but art that calls to mind images found within Christianity.

After all, a crucifix plopped into a jar filled with urine still showcases a crucifix and that brings to mind Jesus dying on the cross for the sins of humanity.  Of course we know that liberals like it because the entire display is supremely offensive to Christians.  But they yell that we need to lighten and up because it’s art and art is protected under the freedom of speech.

Let’s start turning the tables on atheists and others who cannot stand to be reminded that without the birth of Jesus, there would be no Christmas at all.  Yes, I realize that Jesus was likely not born during the month of December, but probably earlier in the fall (as stated previously).  That doesn’t matter.  What matters is that Christians have chosen a time during December to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

It didn’t take long for the world to realize that turning this holiday into a capitalistic charade of plenty was good for profits, did it?  This they did.  Now that the holiday is firmly ensconced in the fabric of society, atheists want to come along and remove Jesus from the celebration.  They are most welcome to do that, but to attempt to force the rest of the world including Christians to do the same is nothing less than demagoguery on their part.

Yet, this is the ugly truth about most atheists.  They are some of the most narrow-minded, egotistical people I personally know.  They look down their long holier-than-thou noses at Christians and others who hang onto the Neanderthal superstition that there is a God and that He cares for His Creation.  They sigh – as only one who has truly risen above it can do – and look forward to the day when there will be no mention of God at all.

In the meantime, let’s use things to our advantage and turn the tables on the atheists who are constantly at Christians’ throats.  The nativity scene should henceforth be called art!
