Armed Police Arrest Midwife and Take $500 Cash

A few days ago, midwife Brenda Capps was arrested in her Bakersfield, California home by armed officers of Medical Board’s Operation Safe Medicine.  She has since been charged with a felony, “booked for violation of Business and Professions Code section 2052, which is unlicensed practice of medicine.” [1]  Both Mrs. Capps and her husband considered this a ministry and she has been involved in midwifery for over 20 years.  Because she does not have a license to be a midwife, she was arrested for practicing medicine without a license.

What I find fascinating here is that for generations, midwifery was the way most children were delivered.  For someone like Brenda Capps to be arrested and charged with felony because she did not have a license for something that she has been involved in doing for several decades makes one wonder what the real reason behind her arrest may be.

What I also find amazing is that this same medical board likely has no problem with the many doctors throughout California who daily murder babies one after the other after the other.  What it amounts to is a licensing fee that California wants paid, as if buying a license equals competence.  California – for those who do not know – is under tremendous financial strain.  Last I heard, the state was in roughly $16-18 billion dollars in debt with no real way of paying that debt down without raising taxes greatly.  This they are doing through the recent passage of Prop 30, which among other things will increase the sales tax throughout the state to right around 10%.

Everything that is taxable will be affected and gas prices especially are already very high in California and will go higher because of the new sales tax.  There are other increases/taxes expected under Prop 30 as well and unfortunately, this continued increase in taxes are driving people out of the state.  We left in part because of the tremendous high cost of living there.

When things become so financially bad for a state, often law enforcement winds up inadvertently becoming “tax collectors,” not in the real sense, but the emphasis often becomes geared toward getting money to flow into county or state coffers.  Police are especially useful for this to catch speeders and catch other automobile laws being broken.

In the case of the Capps, not only was Brenda arrested at gunpoint, but $500 cash was simply taken that had been on her desk.  It’s doubtful that the Capps will see that money again and it’s certainly questionable that the state had the power to simply confiscate it, though I’m sure they will disagree in court.

Her husband – a retired pastor – states that his wife works under a religious exemption clause in California. [2]  As such, I’m not sure of the licensing requirement.

Her husband also reports that they have obtained the services of an attorney and we can be assured that the Capps expenses will be great over the course of the next year.  As such, people are asking that any donations be made through the website listed here:  http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/278926?c=home

All donations will go directly to the Capps for their financial aid as they fight this arrest through the California court system.

There are some other things you can do especially if you are unable to give anything financial to the Capps.  You can pray.  That is needed the most right now; that the Lord will guide them through this situation and that He will provide the victory.

You can also make a phone call to the Medical Board, telling them what you think of their Gestapo tactics.  The number is (800) 633-2322.  It certainly appears as though the Medical Board is concerned more for the licensing fee than anything else.

The other thing you can do is spread the word about this situation.  Folks, if you live in California, you can expect more of this type of hostile environment, especially if you are a Christian.  I hate to keep making the comparisons, but does anyone think that if Mrs. Capps’ was of the Islamic faith, she would have been arrested?  Consider the fact – as reported earlier – that in Dearborn, at least one KFC has two lines; one for men and the other for women and no one bats an eye at that.  It’s as if going back to the Dark Ages is perfectly fine when the government is dealing with Islam.  With Christianity?  That’s a completely different story altogether.

We’ll do our best to keep you updated on this story.  Thanks for praying and thanks for doing anything else you can do.

Like you said, “gestapo tactics”! They may not even “knock on the door”That is happening all over the country. A man was in his house very late at night and the police broke into his house by mistake and the man opened fire thinking it was burglars/druggies, the police shot and killed him in his own house! Christian meetings have been raided in houses because of zoning laws et etc etc. I’m sorry the woman midwife did not have a license. We should not need them in cases like hers where she is a recognized ministry and like you said, taxes and $$$$$$ is what they are after along with control. Prayers are on their way to Father for her and family.
