Gang-Infested War Zones…

Here is an excellent article that is well worth reading and considering.  Will it make any difference at all to those who believe eradication of guns is the answer?  Of course not.  They will continue to portray the individual who owns a gun as the Neanderthal that allows violence to continue and grow throughout society.

People actually seem to believe that by making guns more difficult to obtain, societal violence will diminish.  This is far removed from truth, yet many continue to believe it.

I understand their frustration, but politicians are simply adding to the problem by politicizing situations like Sandy Hook.  These problems are not corrected by more gun control.  They are corrected only by a recreation in the heart of individuals by Jesus Christ.  Government cannot do this, but believes it can.

A blogger by the name of “Michael” writes about the problems in big cities and how they are becoming literal war zones between gangs.  Often, innocent people are targeted for the easy buck and lives are lost in the process.  Yes, guns are used by the gang members, but as we know, these criminals will always have access to guns whether the government tries to take them away from law-abiding citizens or not.

Michael writes about some of the worst cities in America that have violent crime problems bursting at the seams.  Cities like East St. Louis, Camden, Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, Oakland, and Stockton have all been nearly taken over by the criminal element.  The amount of crime involved in these cities makes our heads spin and the only answer that government can come up with is that guns should be made tougher to obtain.  Since we know that criminals do not stand in line like the rest of us to buy guns legally, no amount of changes the government makes for the law-abiding citizen will have any impact at all on the criminal.  It’s ludicrous to think so.

Michael points to some interesting facts related to Oakland.  “Today, there are 626 police officers in Oakland, California.  That is about a 25 percent decline from the 837 police officers that were patrolling the streets of Oakland back in December 2008.

“Predictably, criminals have stepped in and have taken advantage of the situation.  At one point in 2012, burglaries in the city of Oakland were up 43 percent over the previous year.

“If you can believe it, more than 11,000 homes, cars and businesses were burglarized in Oakland during 2012.  That breaks down to approximately 33 burglaries a day.” [1]

Who wants to have to deal with statistics like that on a daily basis?  It is tragically depressing and this is what people in cities like Oakland have to deal with; the criminals run rampant over the law-abiding citizen, yet the government – instead of hiring more officers – has to lay them off because of all the entitlement programs they have to pay for and the average citizen suffers because of it.  Based on the above numbers, you can bet that if you live in or around Oakland, your chances of becoming one of those statistics is quite high.

Michael also points out that “The mainstream media loves to focus on mass shooters such as Adam Lanza, but the reality is that gang violence is a far greater problem in the United States than mass shooters ever will be.” [2]

Can you imagine what America would be like if gangs did not exist?  Granted, they’ve existed for decades, but the truth of the matter is that these gangs have gotten more and more violent as time has moved onward.

In years past, yes, gang members robbed people and they did what they needed to do to protect “their turf,” but over time, gangs have branched out and essentially chose to see anyone who is not part of their gang as unwelcome in “their” territory, even if that person lived there.  Violence is the way gang bangers today deal with situations and they do it without batting an eye.  Our government wants to make it far more difficult for the average person to be able to protect themselves.

But what has made gangs so incredibly violent since even the 1950s?  First, drugs have done their work.  Drugs have captured entire generations and to some extent certainly, that pattern has been picked up by successive generations.  What was once simply recreational drug use (not that it was better because it still created people who wanted to “drop out” of society) has become huge business and everyone wants a piece of it.

Second, an insatiable appetite for money has also done its work.  If you live in a part of society where the only way to make something of yourself is through acquiring as much money as possible (as opposed to education or simply working hard at a decent paying job), then that becomes the only goal a person seeks.  Money gains freedom, respect, and much more. I know I don’t have to name some of the people in the hip-hop industry that have seriously questionable backgrounds, do I?  These same individuals are now common household names and are given a measure of “respectability” because of the empire they have built.

Third, the violence that is often associated with criminal activities becomes the norm for many of these individuals.  Life means absolutely nothing to them.  It is something that these people become used to witnessing and even perpetrating because they know that violence is part of what they do.  Without violence, they would have no hold over people; no way to ensure that their “needs” are met.  The government wants to remove the means that people have to protect themselves and the criminals will simply laugh with joy over it.

Michael’s words seem almost apocalyptic in nature regarding the depravity of gangs.  “Unfortunately, most of these gangs use violence and crime to achieve their goals, and they are taking over communities all over America.  If your community is not a gang-infested war zone yet, you should consider yourself to be very fortunate.  If nothing is done about this, the violence and the crime that is fueled by these gangs will continue to spread, and eventually nearly every single community in the United States will be affected by it.” [3]

Of the cities Michael lists in his article, one has to ask, why would anyone consider even going to these places?  Might as well take your life in your hands by doing so.  Our government (along with a complicit and completely inept media) believes that the answer lies in removing guns from society, which translates to law-abiding citizens.  Guns cannot be taken away from criminals, yet the politicians tell us that if they make it more difficult for the average citizen to obtain a weapon, then the trickle down effect is that it will make it more difficult for criminals to get them as well.

The problem of course, is that this makes people believe that a huge percentage of guns are stolen from homes and used on the streets.  This is simply not true but that doesn’t stop politicians from stating it, does it?  Truth is not – as a rule – something that politicians trade in.

In fact, Michael points out that in all the cities mentioned where police have been laid off and anti-gun laws have become more stringent, the only one who really suffers is the law-abiding citizen.  It’s like throwing a puny Christian in the arena with a muscle-bound Roman gladiator who not only has the brawn, but the weapons and the know-how.  The gladiator is well-equipped in handling himself and his weapons.  The Christian was fodder in his hands and there was really no contest with the gladiator able to quickly dispatch the Christian, or play with him for a while before boring of him, then dispatching him.

Criminals are like that as well.  They deal in guns, knives, and violence.  It’s part of their trade.  Most non-criminals are not used to playing by the criminal’s rules.  They don’t know what to do when they meet that type of violent disregard for life.  A gun helps even the score (if the carrier actually knows how to use one and is not afraid to pull the trigger when the need to defend against aggressive, fatal violence comes to the fore).

I cannot agree more with Michael who says simply that “We don’t have a gun problem in America.  What we have is a gang problem.” [4]  The government can no sooner fight a gang problem, than they can a drug problem.  So what do they do instead?  They make it look like they are doing something that will translate to being safer in public but in the end, all they will wind up doing is removing more of our rights.  It’s what the government does.
