“Dictator” Obama Skirting the Law

According to European Times, President Obama has actually skirted Congress to keep certain guns out of the country. “According to The Korea Times, the Obama administration has blocked efforts by the South Korean government to sell over a hundred thousand surplus M1 Garand and Carbine rifles into the United States market. These self-loading were rifles introduced in 1926 and 1941.
“As rifles, they are especially well-suited to community defense in an emergency, as in the cases of community defense following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Along with AR-15 type rifles, the M1 rifles are the quintessential firearms of responsible citizenship, precisely the type of firearms which civic responsibility organizations such as the Appleseed Project teach people how to use.
“According to a South Korean official, ‘The U.S. insisted that imports of the aging rifles could cause problems such as firearm accidents. It was also worried the weapons could be smuggled to terrorists, gangs or other people with bad intentions’.” [1]
Let me say that whether this type of gun needs to be in the hands of the average citizen is debatable and that’s not the point. The actual point is that Obama has completely circumvented the laws of this land and the democratic process to achieve something that he personally wants to achieve. The excuse that all lawmakers run to is that these guns may fall into the hands of criminals. It’s a non-excuse. Anything can fall into the hands of criminals.
By keeping these guns out of the country, criminals are not affected one bit. They can get any weapon they want to get. All it takes is money and connections and they have both. If they want an M-1, an M-4 or something else entirely, they will get it, and no amount of anti-gun laws will stop that process.
What President Obama has done is simply acted like a dictator. He has decided all by himself that he does not want these guns in the country and addressed the situation directly with the Korean manufacturer. What’s so bad about that, you might ask? By going this route, Obama has conveniently circumvented the law. So what, you might ask? Who needs these guns anyway? That’s not the point. The point is that if he can do this with guns, what else can he do it with? What if he decides that he does not want a particular radio to be imported into this country? What would stop him from going directly to the manufacturer and saying “Do not send anymore of that particular radio.” How about if as a Federal Gov’t, he decided that certain performing artists were not allowed in this country, not because they are criminals, but because he alone thinks that their presence would encourage deviant behavior? You say that wouldn’t happen? Why not? What would stop him from making these arbitrary decisions like that?
The gun situation is one that is often heated and filled with rhetoric. This effort by President Obama and the liberals in Congress to eliminate the 2nd Amendment by not really eliminating it, but by keeping certain guns out, making it difficult to buy ammo, applying all sorts of laws to potential gun owners, and more, is what makes this such a heated issue.
In California, a person cannot buy a gun unless they are 21. That’s fine, although there is no age stipulation in the Second Amendment. Once again, criminals – any age – can get guns. The laws surrounding gun purchases in the United States do not affect them. There is also a waiting period of ten days after purchasing the gun to be able to actually possess it. Okay, that gives time for a background check. That also is not part of the Second Amendment. And again, criminals are not bothered by or have to hassle with a background check.
Moreover, in California, an approved handgun list exists. Anything not on that list cannot be purchased here, even though the same guns can be purchased in neighboring states. Beyond this, California legislature – though they cannot come up with a budget – have found ways to continue to hammer and chip away at the rights of citizens to bear arms. There is a bill that would place ridiculous conditions on delivery drivers from UPS, FedEx, etc. regarding delivery of ammo. Presently, a person must be 18 years-old to buy ammo for long guns (rifles, shotguns, etc.), and 21 years-old to buy handgun ammo. So, when a person buys them online (in bulk usually for greater savings), they have to indicate that they are of legal age. The government does not like this because someone might lie about it, so they are trying to make it so that any ammo delivered to individuals in California must be delivered to individuals who are of legal age. This would require delivery people to verify the age and even whether or not the individual is allowed to have the ammo.
Those of you who do not like guns might ask, “Well, why does a person need BULK ammo? Sounds like someone who could be planning something big.” Not at all. When I go to the gun range, it is extremely easy to go through 50 or 100 rounds in an hour or less, depending upon the type of shooting. If I am limited to buying 50 rounds here, or 50 rounds there, or am unable to save money by buying bulk ammo, then I cannot go to the range. Believe it or not, many people shoot guns as a hobby. They enter into all sorts of competitions just for the fun of it. Then you might say, “Fine, they can have a special permit.” Why should they have to have a special permit?
After all this though, it must be remembered that if I want to buy an M-1 for instance (and let’s say California allows it), even though I can order a gun like that online, it must be SENT to a person with an FFL license, which is a person who is registered with the state and has the license to sell weapons. The gun does not even come to me. It goes to them. THEN, I have to pay $65 or whatever they charge to have the gun registered in my name. THEN, I have to wait ten days from the time I fill out the paperwork for the gun (after the dealer receives it), before I can pick it up (even though I may have paid for it 20 days ago.
There are all types of safeguards in place in this country where guns are concerned, but they only affect law-abiding citizens. They do NOT affect criminals at all. They never have and they never will.
So in this particular case, we have a president who – under the guise of claiming that the guns are “old,” and the fear of them getting into the wrong hands – has taken matters upon himself to eradicate the possibility of my being able to purchase a particular type of weapon. If the guns are going to get into the wrong hands, they will get into the wrong hands. In fact, even though President Obama has essentially outlawed these particular weapons from import into America, that will not be the end of it. People will STILL get these weapons and will do so illegally. Do they care? Of course not, because they already live on the wrong side of the law anyway.
Criminals do not care about laws. If they did, they would never rob a bank, kill a person, drink and drive, rape a person, or break any of the thousands and thousands of laws that already exist. The fact that laws against murder have not curtailed murder proves the point. All the laws do is allow a city or a state to bring charges against a person. Laws do not stop people from doing wrong things. They simply point out what particular wrong thing the person did.
By the way, Paul explains that this is the exact same reason that God put laws into effect, so that we would KNOW when we did something that God did not want us to do. Read the entire book of Romans for an excellent picture of how that works.
Today, we have lawmakers who are skirting law to bring their own will to fruition. Obama is also attempting to do this with the illegal alien situation. He wants to find a way to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and he wants to do it bypassing Congress, which means bypassing the democratic process in this country. Why do we have a president who even considers that a viable option? This country was set up as it was so that the Executive Branch would not have too much power. In fact, it was specifically set up so that each individual branch of government would provide checks and balances to the other branches. By Obama deciding that he would ignore Congress, he has placed himself on a pedestal, and granted himself special status. He is above the law of the land, not required (he thinks) to follow the system that was placed in effect by our Founding Fathers. Any person who believes that he is above the law is essentially a criminal. This is how the criminal mind thinks. They do not have to follow the law because the laws do not apply to them.
Look at the controversy that has surrounded Obama since before he became president. Whether it was listening to an avowed racist rant from the pulpit, carousing with members of alleged terrorist organizations, not providing a genuine birth certificate, or anything else, he has consistently shown that he cannot be trusted. Regarding his birth certificate by the way, if he was going to take the time to attempt to show proof of his natural-born citizenship at all, you would think he would have provided a genuine certificate.
Folks, we have a dictator in the White House. He is not a president who is working FOR the American people. He is a man who mistakenly believes that he was elected to the position of president to do whatever he chooses to do, irrespective of what the people want. He will continue to do this and I can only predict that his actions will become even more blatant over time.
He said “change is coming.” He meant it. He warned us, and people shouted with glee, smiling from ear to ear. I’m sure most did not realize that his definition of change was far different from theirs.
Change is here now and it is still coming. Obama has learned very quickly how to circumvent the laws and democratic policies of this land. He constantly shows disdain for the American way of life. Whether you agree with his recent decision banning the importation of specific guns (by telling the foreign manufacturer that they are not allowed to export any to the U.S.) is neither here nor there. The fact that he found a way to outlaw something without having to use Congress as a way of checks and balances is absolutely wrong. It is something only a dictator would do and this is what he is and what he will remain for as long as the people allow him to be in office. Scary.
