Rapper Common Brings Ghetto to the White House

It kind of reminds me of when the Carter Administration was “in the house.” Brother Billy was either guzzling beer or peeing on the White House lawn. Nice. Of course, the entire Carter Administration seemed like a bit of farce, if not a carnival.
Billy’s sister – faith-healing evangelist – was hand-holding friends with pornographer Larry Flynt while brother Jimmy was busy trying to run the country during the hostage crisis happening in the Middle East.
Now, under the guise of a night of poetry, rapper Common set the stage on fire with lyrics from some of his “songs.” It seems to me that Mr. Obama loves to do the things that create controversy. Why is that? Does it have anything to do with the fact that just as a magician uses sleight of hand to keep the audience to see how the trick is done, Mr. Obama creates things like this to keep people from noticing what he is doing to get some of his pet projects accomplished?
Under the Bush Administration, it seems that the liberal media never stopped looking for controversy with him. Under the Obama Administration, this same media never stops defending Mr. Obama.
Common is someone I’ve never heard of and while that might not mean much to you because I don’t listen to rappers, the reality is that I’ve heard most of the big names in rap. Most of the lyrics (and I’ve taken the time to listen to some) are vile and denigrating not only to humanity, but to women and society in general.
Common is known for his alleged support of at least one individual who was arrested and charged with killing a police officer. He has also used verbiage in at least one of his “songs” that condone burning then-President Bush.
Of course, as can be expected, when Palin used bull’s-eyes on her Web site to simply draw attention to the fact that certain Congressional districts needed new Congressmen, preferably much more conservative representing them. Though liberals were quite aware of the actual meaning, they decided to play stupid and pretend that this is not what Palin meant and that her actions on her Web site created or incited violence from Jared Loughner.
Of course, now however, these same political pundits and liberals are claiming that rappers like Common are protected under freedom of speech and freedom of expression. So when they express their feelings with respect to people who have allegedly killed cops or that they want to see Bush burned, that’s protected according to liberals like Jon Stewart and others.
These individuals will argue that Common was likely using a metaphor regarding Bush, not that he wanted to really see him burned with fire. They would likely go further and state that even if he really was saying that he wanted Bush literally burned with fire, that is protected under freedom of speech because he’s an artist.
This type of reasoning (if you can call it that) is not only absurd but purely hypocritical though you would never hear a liberal admitting that.
On The Ed Show with regular guest Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz routinely sets up situations for Sharpton that allows Sharpton to pontificate on all manner of things that are racist according to Al and Ed. Schultz asked Sharpton point-blank (that’s a metaphor, not a reference to shooting someone) if Mr. Obama should have invited Common to the White House event. To no surprise, Sharpton said, “Of course he should have” and then went on a diatribe explaining why Common was not a true gangsta rapper and how he was much gentler than most of the others. Sharpton continued to regale the audience with his statements that he had marched against gangsta rappers and their use of verbiage that was decidedly violent as well as the use of the “N” word and lyrics that denigrated women.
As can be expected (though Sharpton didn’t admit to that on the Ed Show), rappers in general laughed Sharpton off. At the same time, there were other key Black leaders who believed that the word should be used in its appropriate context.
That aside, Sharpton was busy mouthing off as to his support for Mr. Obama and the invitation to people like Common. Mr. Bush would never have received any support from Sharpton regardless of his position on anything. Conversely, Mr. Obama will always receive support from Sharpton. On a recent Hannity show, Sharpton would not speak against Minister Farrakhan when it was obvious that Farrakhan was taking Mr. Obama to task on national radio. Sharpton kept saying that he had not heard the whole speech and since he was only hearing a small clip on the Hannity show, he could not judge. Funny how that never comes into play when he is speaking against someone though.
In spite of all this, liberals are wagging their tongues at conservatives, stating that Common’s lyrics regarding cop killers is taken out of context and that in general, the right has jumped to conclusions. The left apparently did not jump to conclusions with the Jared Loughner situation though as they tried to ram that event down the throat of every conservative out there, did they?
The liberal press is also trying to make it appear as though the only ones who are complaining are the dreaded “right-wingers.” However, at least two police unions are up in arms over the event that took place at the White House. I suppose then that those unions are also right-wingers? I suppose they are also misconstruing Common’s message.
For the sake of argument, here are lyrics to one of his “songs” titled “A Letter to the Law”:
Dem boy wanna talk… [indistinguishable]
whatcha gon do if ya got one gun?
I sing a song for the hero unsung
with faces on the mural of the revolutionNo looking back cos’ in back is what’s done
Tell the preacher, God got more than one son
Tell the law, my Uzi weighs a ton
I walk like a warrior, from them I won’t runOn the streets, they try to beat us like a drum
In Cincinnati, another brother hung
A guinea won’t see the sun with his family stungThey want us to hold justice but you handed me none
The same they did to Kobe and Michael Jackson
make them the main attractionTurn around and attack them Black gem in the rough
You’re rugged enough
Use your mind and nine-power, get the government touchThem boys chat-chat on how him pop gun
I got the black strap to make the cops run
They watching me, I’m watching them
Them dick boys got a lock of cock in themMy people on the block got a lot of pok* in them
and when we roll together we be rocking them to sleepNo time for that, because there’s things to be done
Stay true to what I do so the youth dream come
from project buildingSeeing a fiend being hung
With that happening, why they messing with Saddam?
Burn a Bush cos’ for peace he no push no button
Killing over oil and grease no weapons of destructionHow can we follow a leader when this a corrupt one
The government’s a g-unit and they might buck young black peopleBlack people In the urban area one
I hold up a peace sign, but I carry a gun.
Peace, ya’ll.
Common has had an interesting life. According to Wikipedia, “Lynn was born on Chicago’s South Side. He is the son of educator Dr. Mahalia Ann Hines and former ABA basketball player turned youth counselor Lonnie Lynn. They divorced when he was six years old, resulting in his father moving to Denver, Colorado. This left him to be raised by his mother, but his father remained active in his life and even landed Lonnie Jr. a job with the Chicago Bulls during his teen years. While a student at Luther High School South in Chicago, Lynn formed C.D.R., a rap trio that opened for acts which included N.W.A. and Big Daddy Kane.
“Common attended Florida A&M University for two years under a scholarship and majored in business administration.[5] After being featured in the Unsigned Hype column of The Source magazine, Lynn debuted in 1992 with the single “Take It EZ” followed by the album, Can I Borrow a Dollar?, under stage name Common Sense.” [1]
Makes you wonder if the above is true, then why the attitude toward police officers and the law in general? Did Lynn ever spend time in the pokie? Doesn’t seem so and his educational credentials as well as his upbringing seem to separate him from the street life. Who knows, but maybe Lynn’s simply a poser, a wannabe gangsta?
Look, Mr. Obama does these things because it keeps people off balance. It forces people to focus away from what he is doing. I firmly believe (and have said so) that the entire issue with his birth certificate was stretched out so long for just this purpose. It’s still interesting to me though that just as Donald Trump was apparently zeroing in on things, the long form birth certificate that everyone was saying did not exist was pulled out of the shadows. That simply appears to be way too coincidental. If Mr. Obama had the certificate to begin with, why not show it much earlier? If the certificate was just recently found, where in the heck was it?
The truth of the matter seems to be that Mr. Obama is a master showman. He’s a carnival barker with a vengeance, though he kiddingly castigates them as well. He seems to do things deliberately to light a fuse. He knows that the liberal media will immediately rise to his defense and like Bill Clinton before him, can do no wrong as far as they are concerned.
I don’t listen to rap and I have my doubts as to whether Mr. Obama does either. In truth, he (or his wife) likely brought in folks like Common to give the impression that he listens to rap. Maybe his kids listen to Common. Why would they think anything was wrong with any lyrics even if they did allegedly condone cop-killing and burning Bush? After all, this guy spent 20 years in a church where he heard racist and anti-American propaganda for years from Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Maybe people will wake up to the fact that Mr. Obama is someone other who he pretends to be and maybe…just maybe, he won’t have a second term in office because he’ll be voted out in the next election. One can only hope and pray.

This is a ridiculous article. Lynn isnt some gangster, hes just a good lyricist. Hes not actually going to go shoot cops with his uzi. Hes simply speaking of situations that actually happen in less fortunate areas of the country everyday. I dont think hes saying hes involved in these activities, these are just things that happen in some ares of some cities. Now the sadamm and “oil, grease, no weapons of distruction”, give me a break sir. Half of america felt the same way.

I see. It’s ridiculous because YOU say so. Oh, he’s a good lyricist. So far, you’ve shared two OPINIONS with me, but nothing factual. Actually, he sucks at creating lyrics, as far as I’m concerned. But beyond that, it’s relatively easy to take topics that are controversial and APPEAR as if you are only commenting on those situations, when in point of fact, he is very likely GLORIFYING the situation.
I never said or implied that he was going to take an uzi (or any other gun) and start shooting people, but that does NOT mean that there are people who won’t see in his lyrics a suggestion or even a command to do it.
You say “half of america felt the same way.” That’s great and it is also a guess on your part. Nevertheless, even IF half of America felt the same way, there is still the OTHER half. Your opinion does not negate the concerns of people like me and many others who believe that there is a problem with the president of the United States inviting someone like Lynn to put on a show at the White House. Give ME a break, will you? My taxes should not go for that garbage. If you want to write a check to the Federal gov’t for such purposes, feel free, but this is merely an example of the type of waste that should not be occurring in our government at the highest level, but does.

Obama does listen to Rap. From an insider source, he demands that Rap music be played on Air Force 1 during his flights. The crew can’t stand him but have to put up with him. Yes, he listens to Rap Music. Obama says, “it relaxes me”. This information is true and you will just have to trust me with it.

Okay David, I’ll take your word for it 🙂
I can’t imagine how rap can relax anyone though…
