Computer Glitches Cause Major Problems for United Airlines

Recently, United Airlines experienced a computer glitch that shut down computer systems for the airline and caused havoc with flights and passenger schedules.  “The unspecified ‘network connectivity’ problem was fixed and flights resumed early Saturday, but the airline said delays could persist throughout the weekend. Also, with flights nearly full, there was little room for passengers whose flights had been canceled to rebook.” [1]

The result is that many passengers have either had to find other transportation to their destination, of they will need to wait until things get back to normal, which could take days.  While many may react in annoyance to the problem, believing that it will eventually be corrected, they miss the larger picture.

Today, my wife and I went to grab a quick lunch at McDonald’s only to be met with signs on each register stating that their ATMs were down and were only accepting cash.  Since I had $5 on me, we had to leave to go elsewhere for lunch.

The ramifications of these two situations are enormous.  Considering the future, how would it be possible to have an economic crash?  With computers taking a dive, that’s how.  People rarely to stop to think about how much we rely on computerized gadgetry. I just bought a new cell phone and it is far superior to my old one in many ways.  What if it dies?  Hopefully, I would be able to transfer my information from my existing phone to another new one without trouble.

Over the past few months, we’ve had some work done on our main vehicle.  Among other things, we needed a few computerized parts replaced.  They’re never cheap, yet our cars need them because of the way cars are manufactured these days.  It is difficult to think of things that have moving parts that do not have something to do with computers.  Chances are, even if those items do not rely directly on computers, the process used to make and package them (shoes, clothing, food items, etc.), likely does.

I recall as a kid, life really did seem to be far less complicated.  You turned the TV on and it took a few minutes for the tubes to warm up.  Now, because of computers, everything is instantly on with a touch of one button.  When computers crash because of malfunctions, viruses, or hacking, it creates chaos because so much of society is connected to computerized consoles.

Years ago, only the rich could afford to own a dishwasher.  Now, any new home that is built normally includes one.  This is no joke, but one time, I recall running out of the kind of soap that goes into the dishwasher.  I actually stood there for a few seconds thinking, “Now what am I going to do?” because it had been so many years since I had hand washed dishes!

When we go to the gas station, we expect the pumps to be working.  When we go to the grocery store, we expect to be able to slide our debit card and walk out with paid groceries.  What we do not expect is to run into computer problems.

We pay our bills online so that we can save some money with stamps and envelopes.  Beyond this, things do get lost in the mail, so paying bills online avoids that problem.  Due to the fact that virtually all retailers accept debit cards as payment, I rarely have the need to carry cash.  I do not even think of it unless I’m going to the airport when I know I’ll need a few bucks as tip for the skycap.

If we consider it, it would not take much for even part of the world to go dark, and the entire world would be affected.  Can you imagine if even a few more computers glitches than just United Airlines, occurred on the same day?  I’d prefer not to think about it, but we really should think about it because our society does not move without computers.  If those computers go down, we come to a screeching halt.

It reminds me of what we learn in the book of Revelation, chapter 18, where we read that Babylon is fallen.  Granted, it does not fall because of computer glitches.  It falls because of God’s judgment.  However, let’s consider the reaction of the people during that coming time when this event occurs.

And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and lived [l]sensuously with her, will weep and lament over her…” (Revelation 18:9).

And again, “And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargoes any more…” (Revelation 18:11)

The lights go out in Babylon and kings and merchants mourn.  They immediately feel the loss of this coming great city and system.  The system of Babylon runs through everything, connecting it like the roots of the trees connected to one another in James Cameron’s Avatar.  When Babylon goes dark, people will be greatly saddened and perplexed.  What will they do now that Babylon is gone?  Oh, woe is them.

I believe God controls all things and I’ve stated that many times in these posts of mine.  When United Airlines’ computers experienced problems, God was not surprised.  When my wife and I went to McDonald’s today and the computers were out, God was not taken aback.

When the world’s system goes dark at some point in the future, God will not be surprised then either.  Only people will be surprised because they will have put so much faith in a system that they built.  How could these systems crash since they were built by people and we have learned via the New Age belief system that we are gods?  If we are gods, why haven’t we been able to build something that lasts forever?  Why haven’t we been able to produce something that never breaks down?

The answer is not that we have not unleashed the full potential of our alleged deity.  The answer is that we are not really gods in the first place though we believe ourselves to be just that.

Just like the post on astral projection I put up the other day, people tend to think of themselves as good, benevolent, and even god-like, if they choose to be.  Well, here’s the news.  Nothing humanity creates will last forever…nothing.  It all breaks down.  It all turns to dust.

The fact that our bodies die should be the first clue, but for many, that has nothing to do with anything.  They overlook this aspect of life – just as Madame Blavatsky, Alice A. Bailey, Mary Baker Eddy, and many others too numerous to list here have done – as if it is merely something they need to get beyond.  They believe they will get beyond the fact that our bodies die if we can arrive at a point of being able to blend seamlessly with our deity.

People seem to want so hard to believe the lie, in spite of the fact that it makes no logical sense at all.  How can someone who is supposedly a god, create something that is imperfect?  Before you say that the God of the Bible did that, you need to think again.  What God created was good in all respects.  What humanity did with what God created was not.

It is not God’s fault that people die.  It is not the fault of the Creator of all things that people tend to believe what is not true.  People became imperfect through their own inner desire to be something we are not:  gods.  From that point onward, we fell, far and long.  The belief that imperfect “gods” can create something that is perfect is asinine, and goes against everything that is logical.

How many more computer glitches – both large and small – will we experience in the near future?  How many times will we see something that humanity created crash into nothingness?  Beings who are gods do not create imperfect items or situations, yet that is what our world is filled with because of the fact that we are not gods in any sense of the word.

It’s too bad that people do not see these computer outages as an opportunity to look up, to recognize that God is God and we are merely part of His Creation.  Those who begin to realize that start to see the truth.  Those who are unable – for one reason or another – to see the connection between computer crashes and our own imperfection will never see the need to reach out to the only wise God, our Savior, Jesus, for the salvation that comes only from Him.
