Speaking of Earthquakes…One Hit DC

August 23, 2011 at 12:33 PM 18 comments

As I was reading the news just now, I read of an earthquake that hit the Washington DC area measuring 5.9 on the scale.  My first thought was, “Okay, what has Mr. Obama done now!”

The news describes the quake as “unusually strong.” [1] Of course, people will say, “There’s nothing to worry about.  This is not God telling us anything.  It is merely the earth moving.

The earth moving?  Really?  Duh.  That’s the immediate cause of earthquakes, but as we learned yesterday in my previous post about the Revelation 6 earthquake, God does take credit for at least some of them, doesn’t He?  Read Ezekiel 36-39 and tell me that God does not take credit for the massive earthquake he sends after GOG and his forces attempt to invade Israel.

Apparently, while the area of the earthquake is known for having them, this same area is not known for experiencing large earthquakes like the one that just occurred.  Just another coincidence, right?  The largest earthquake to date in recent history prior to this 5.6 quake was one measuring 3.6.  There is no tsunami expected off the east coast according to the weather service, so at least they don’t have to be concerned over flooding and the destruction that comes from that.  However, the aftershocks may be yet to come, who knows?  There is concern that the Washington Monument is tilting.  That would not be good if it, or part of it, fell over…

Look folks, it certainly appears to me that things are happening around the earth that God is using as indicators that He is not pleased with humanity.  I do not believe that He necessarily wants this nation to “turn back to God” because for one, I think it’s too late for that, and for another, the Bible seems to indicate something else that takes place.  Rather a turning back to God, there is a greater shift away from Him.  I’m not a Christian Reconstructionist, or into Dominism – the idea that we can turn this nation (or any nation) back to God and then He will literally be in charge of that nation.

The biblical reality is that one day, He will rule the earth in its entirety and He alone will make that happen.  He does not need my help.  What He wants me to focus on is the Great Commission, which is to introduce as many people as possible to the gospel of Jesus, which – as far as I know – is the only actual salvation that is being offered that has eternal rewards.

Here’s an interesting statement from the same news bureau.  “The press corp with President Obama in Martha’s Vineyard said they felt slight shaking. Attorney General Eric Holder has been evacuated from the Department of Justice.” [2]

For some reason, that second sentence especially is funny.  Eric Holder has been evacuated?  Wow, interesting.  Maybe the Lord is going to purge our government of the likes of Holder soon.  He’s a criminal if “Fast and Furious” is factual and I have no reason to believe it is not.  In fact, it appears that Holder has been involved in a huge cover-up that makes Watergate look like kids playing with marbles.

Maybe God is angry that all Mr. Obama seems to know how to do is take one vacation after another, believing apparently that golf is the means by which he will formulate his plan to create some jobs in this country.  I know he believes that ATM machines take away jobs and Welfare stamps provide jobs, but what this country needs are actual long-term, non-governmental jobs that will put people to work without adding to the nation’s debt.

Yes, earthquakes are the direct result of plates moving below the surface of the earth.  I understand that.  However, it is not a stretch to believe that at least some of these earthquakes are more than coincidental.

Frankly, I think people should start to take notice.  Even if they do not want to consider the idea that God is sending us messages, they should at least be willing to look at the facts regarding the increase in destructive natural disasters that have occurred of late.  If they want to say that these are all part of the natural order, or merely coincidence, that’s up to them.

Unfortunately, for the unbelieving world, it would appear that Jesus’ words ring true in His Olivet Discourse message of Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21.  Earthquakes and famines will occur prior to the beginning of the Tribulation.  What do we have going on in Somalia?  Famine beyond belief.  The nice guys – the Taliban/Al Qaeda – are doing their level best to keep humanitarian aid from reaching those starving and also keeping the victims from leaving the country.  It’s nice that Islam is so compassionate, isn’t it?

We’ve got huge earthquakes happening throughout the world, in some cases, followed by devastating tsunamis, famines, and death due to diseases and pestilence, and the world goes, “Wow, all these natural disasters.  That’s a real shame.”  Actually, it’s far more than simply a “real shame.”

I believe God is trying to get the world’s attention.  Please note that I am not saying He is judging us…yet.  I am saying because He loves us, He wants to gain our attention.  He wants no one to perish, so He continues to offer salvation, which is roundly rejected by the average individual.

What are we going to see next?  We can probably expect more of the same with respect to natural disasters and they will probably increase as well.

I was watching the news yesterday and what I like about FOX News is that at least they are willing to have people on who represent opposing viewpoints.  I don’t often see that with CNN or the other news bureaus.  At any rate, the comment was made that in defense of Mr. Obama’s terrible performance and the fact that his approval rating is at an all time (though possibly not yet reached bottom) low, Mr. Obama is saying that several disasters have come along unexpectedly.  There was the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, and the problems in the northern part of Africa, with Egypt, Tunisia, and now Libya.

It’s interesting to me that these excuses are fine for Mr. Obama, yet he also continues to blame Mr. Bush for the economy.  Unfortunately, Mr. Obama fails to point out that 9/11 happened under Mr. Bush’s watch and of course, the war with Iraq.

Mr. Obama has gotten us into a war as well, though of course, he referred to it as a kinetic military action then, so that he would not need Congressional approval to put our troops on the ground in Libya.  Funny, but everyone is now referring to it as a war and no one from Congress objects.

I wonder if Mr. Obama is headed for his own political disaster in 2012?  I wonder if the prayers of God’s people have caused God to replace Mr. Obama with someone whose main concern is Israel and our nation’s economy?  I believe in prayer and even if someone who supports Israel and wants to strengthen our economy is elected in 2012, it does not necessarily mean that this country will ultimately turn back to God.  What it means is that God will be able to bless this country because of their new direction.  For how long that happens is anyone’s guess because it is patently clear from Ezekiel 36 – 39 that when Israel is attacked from the north with forces led by GOG, at that point in time, Israel will stand alone.  Ezekiel seems to say that there will not be one other country in this world that sees Israel as an ally or desires to come to her aid.  This is why God Himself takes over and fights for Israel.

I believe that God can bless this nation once again and I have stated this before.  This will happen if we put in someone who truly treats Israel as a trusted ally, instead of a secret enemy.  I believe if that happens, then we will see a turnaround with this nation’s economy.  I firmly believe that because of Mr. Obama’s stand against Israel, we have gotten what we bargained for when we elected Mr. Obama.  Unfortunately, it was no bargain at all and we have come to learn this terrible truth.

Our leaders need to realize that by turning our backs on Israel, God turns His back on our nation.  It is that simple.  It’s time to turn this ship around and hopefully God is going to drive that point home repeatedly through the next election.  If we do not hear what He is saying, we might as well plan on going back to the days of the settlers, when it was pretty much every person for himself.

I do not expect the leaders who stand opposed to God to hear what He is saying.  I do expect those who can hear Him to recognize His voice and His actions and do something about it.

Today, there’s been a 5.6 magnitude earthquake 90 miles south of our nation’s capitol, but Mr. Obama felt it all the way north in Martha’s Vineyard.  That’s interesting.

What will happen next?  Of course, only God knows, but I also hope those with discernment are recognizing His work.  Folks, let’s keep praying.  He will overcome.  He will turn things around, in His way, in His time, and for His glory.  Amen?

Like previous commenters I consider myself pretty far right, even libertarian in regards to certain issues… please don’t call me a ‘left head’ (speaking of asinine…).

Your beliefs/life are sadly based on an outdated book that was used to explain the complex world that surrounded a bunch of clueless savages… the same savages that would burn ‘witches’ at the stake, murder infidels, start glorified holocausts… and honestly, what were the crusades other than a pope approved Jihad?

While ideals and beliefs may vary between religions, what doesn’t change is violence and unnecessary blood shed that they bring to this world. The crusades, the holocaust, Spanish inquisition, genocides in Africa, turmoil between Sunnis and Shiites, Israeli trouble with Palestine are all a product of a bunch of morons thinking that their ‘God’/beliefs were better than the next mans.

True, some Muslims are now reproducing at higher rates, and claiming they want to ‘take over’ the world. But what are they doing now that doesn’t mirror more violent acts by Christians in the past? I was born a protestant, and have chosen to be an atheist. Open your eyes to the world around you, live the life you were given and stop holding out for some non-existent heaven that you think awaits you in the ‘after life’. You will, however, make great fertilizer for the shrubs growing next to your headstone.

I’ve got an idea, why not sell all of Vatican City and its golden statues of dead ‘saints’ and solve world hunger in one day? I’m sure Jesus would be in support of such a move, no?

In regards to the earthquake, I blame it on Poseidon, god of the seas and controller of most natural disasters. I think he’s just pissed that BP dumped a bunch of oil on his fellow mermen/maids. Seems to be just as logical of an argument as yours..

Funny that science surrounds us all day, everyday, yet Jesus is no where to be found? and boy am I glad to have survived the ‘judgement day’ that took place on May 21st.. How kind of Jesus to spare me!

All the time I have for now… going to go enjoy some wine provided to me by Dionysus, and potentially listen to some music generously placed on my laptop by Apollo.

You know, Kendall, you ARE a Lefthead when it comes to Jesus, that’s clear. What, you don’t like to be labeled, but it’s fine for you to label me? I never agreed with the May 21st predication from Loony Tunes Camping, so please refrain from categorizing me with him. In fact, I wrote a number of blogs in opposition to his infamous predictions as did many other individuals.

Moreover, I am not Catholic and much of what you are talking about was perpetrated by Roman Catholicism when it became married to the state through Constantine.

You were BORN a protestant? Good one. That’s like saying you were BORN a Catholic or Muslim. You weren’t BORN anything. Once you WERE born, your parents DECIDED that you would be raised within the confines of protestantism. You are correct when you say you chose to be an atheist. Good for you, Kendall. That’s swell.

While you are busy castigating Christianity in general for centuries of abuse, ask yourself about all the missionaries around the world and those who began Salvation Army and a hundred other organizations that help the homeless to try to make their lives easier.

Your lack of beliefs are sadly based on a science that is your god and it takes faith there as well. There is a good deal of science in the Bible. I’m sorry you’ve never taken the time to search it out. It wouldn’t convince you anyway.

Where’s Jesus? Oy…what stupidity. Do I need to answer that…didn’t think so.

Look Kendall, you came here to blow off steam and pick a fight. You blew off steam and your remarks are absolutely moronic. I’ve no interest in arguing with you so go find somewhere else to play, all right? You have no proof that your beliefs are actual, so you’re using faith just as I am. You cannot prove that there is no life after this one. You cannot prove that God does not exist (and don’t use the foolish argument that you cannot prove a negative – of COURSE you can! You’ve chosen to be an atheist based on WHAT – the belief that God does not exist. You’ve obviously CONVINCED yourself that God does not exist, so you have somehow PROVED it to yourself, though have not really proved anything.) Of course, the difference is that you use faith in a fatalistic way, whereas I see something far beyond what you can comprehend.

By the way, you speak very lightly of Islam. If I were you, I would do some serious checking into how far they have pushed their agenda in various places of the world and now within the United States. You say you’re an atheist, but Islam has no room for atheists and they kill them just as easily as they kill Christians, unless of course you wish to convert to Islam to save your skin. But wait, you don’t believe in God, so you don’t believe in Allah. You’d be a hypocrite to convert to something just save your life. You’re too proud to do that.

Lastly, and for the umpteenth time, just because someone SAYS they are a Christian, this does not mean they are one. That is clear from Scripture. The lunatic who massacred just under 100 people in Norway, stated he was a “right-winger” and a “Christian.” To many in various parts of Europe, being a Christian means simply going to church…occasionally, or not being Jewish, nothing more and nothing less. But you don’t want to hear that do you? No, you’d prefer to puff yourself up with your arrogance in believing that science has all the answers and you’re on the right team, and Christians and people of all religions are loons and morons. Feel free. The fact that you have to go out of your way to post your drivel here simply proves how arrogant you truly are in the end. You could have simply laughed to your self and kept going, but that wasn’t good enough for you. No, you needed to make sure I felt the power of KENDALL, AtheistMan! Whoopee….

By the way, I note that the gunman in Norway also posed as a police officer, but no one actually thinks he WAS one.

Thanks for writing Kendall, but don’t write again. You’re wasting my time…and YOURS.

I believe Obama’s heart has been hardened much the same way as Pharaoh’s was. I believe God will send more disasters to this nation and Obama will just harden his heart all the more. We are looking at a Cat 3 hurricane that may hit many of the same areas affected by this earthquake. God is speaking, but who is listening?

Okay Mike, I’ve been nice and have given you far more respect than you have deserved.

Now you’re just proving how stupid you truly are. It is impossible to be racist against Islam or Muslims, since anyone can become a Muslim and there are many whites and others who are part of that ideological mix. We are not talking about a specific ETHNICITY, Mike. We are talking about individuals who adopt the ideologies of Islam. You could also not correctly say that people who are opposed to Christianity are racist since again, anyone of any ethnicity can be Christian.

You sound as intelligent as Ed Schultz and Al Sharpton who both accused Gov. Perry of making racist statements against Mr. Obama when he was CLEARLY referring to the national debt. Their playing the race card then did not apply, but why let facts get in the way?

Yes, I am anti-Islamic because it is clear that they believe they will literally take over the world one day and they are working for it to happen. Apparently, you have no clue what is happening in the UK, The Netherlands, France, Australia, or anywhere else. You should do a bit of reading and I would suggest starting with the Qur’an.

I don’t mind that people form communities around their own CULTURES. Islam is NOT a culture. It is an ideology and unfortunately Mike, Muslims come together quite often to create communities – AS IF THEY ARE A CULTURE – where they ONLY want to live by Sharia law, instead of their adopted country’s rule of law, like the U.S. Constitution. There are many “Sharia-Controlled Zones” in England and UK has turned a blind eye to it and is now paying the price.

Under Sharia, stoning is acceptable and done fairly frequently for adultery, etc. People get their hands chopped off for stealing, their tongues cut out for lying. Women are treated like garbage, often forced to wear burkas, can be beaten by their husbands, if a woman is raped, she must have FOUR witnesses to say that she was INDEED raped. If she accuses a man of raping her and cannot prove it, she can be tried and convicted of adultery because she has already admitted she had sex (was raped)! She is then stoned to death. They also advocate female circumcision (MUTILATION). It’s a great system. Since you obviously love and respect Islam so much, then you probably want to become a Muslim yourself. Maybe you’ll be the first to throw a real rock at someone’s head who is buried up to their waist in dirt, with their arms tied at their waist so that they cannot use their hands to protect themselves from rocks.

Wake up! Just today, ANOTHER Muslim cleric (Imam) came out and publicly stated that if a Muslim sees a Jew, he has the responsibility to KILL that Jew! When they kills Jews, they celebrate. Under Islam, Jews represent their greatest enemy and there are many passages in the Qur’an related to how Muslims should treat Jews. Read them for yourself if you dare. And don’t give me any crap about “context” because there is very little context to the Qur’an. It is page after page of “sayings” simply presented to the reader. The Qur’an is generally not a narrative per se as is the Bible or other books of antiquity.

Imams in the UK want the Statue of Liberty taken down and replaced with a minaret, but first covered with a burka.

You know, the amount of absolute stupidity from people like you is why Islam is making such inroads in society. You are unbelievable, Mike. Take some time to do some reading. Start with Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch. Find out what some of the top officials in our own government are saying and warning. Find out what’s happening in “Dearbornistan” (Dearborn, MI), or Murphreesboro, TN, or numerous other places like Islamberg, NY ( a REAL place).

It is amazing how asinine people like you can be. You really think you’re being intelligent by playing the race card when it doesn’t even apply here. Your last comment is so vapid, it doesn’t even deserve a response.

Go away, Mike. For some ridiculous reason, you’ve subscribed to my blog. No idea why, but you’d be better served by spending your time devoting yourself to something pro-Islamic.

Im very far right when it comes to fiscal policy and fairly right on social issues…..But if God really cared about American politics (which is very Nationalistic) why would he be trying to remove Obama? Wasnt Obama the one trying to bring healthcare to the poor and under privileged and our party (which I agree with) vehemently fought it? Sounds like the work of Jesus to me, im just selfish and didnt want to pay more in taxes…

Also what about the earthquake in Colorado? Was that God’s message that Governor Hickenlooper is doing a bad job and needs to be removed?

It has nothing to do with “nationalism,” Bill. God cares about what goes on in this world and He has already given us His revealed plan in His Word.

When you say you are very far right on social issues, you actually sound like you’re very far LEFT because you seem to applaud a socialistic approach.

Obamacare was railroaded through Congress. Remember Pelosi’s “You’ll have to pass it to see what’s in it” comment?

If you really want to know how God works in societies, then I suggest reading the Old Testament, or at least read the book of Daniel and find out WHY God put Nebuchadnezzar in as king, then took Him out for seven years, then put him back in.

Jesus was not at all political. When He returns and ushers in the Millennial Kingdom, He will be the consummate Socialist. However, because of GREED, that system simply does not work. It has NEVER worked and it will not work in the United States.

Regarding the earthquake in Colorado, I already responded to that same type of question to another poster, so take the time to read the comments, all right Bill? Thanks.

I did not say that the earthquakes are representative of God being unhappy with Obama. What I intimated was that I believe God is not happy with the way this country’s leaders oppose Israel and since it is our leadership of this nation that has adopted that posture, the leadership is accountable because they represent us.

I also don’t think you truly read the entire post, Mike. The Bible speaks of “diverse” earthquakes and famines occurring as a precursor to the Tribulation period (cf. Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21). We have seen some extremely devastating natural disasters that have occurred in this century and more specifically within the past few decades. I believe that they are indicative of a general cycle that means things are ramping up TOWARD the Tribulation period.

Do I believe God is unhappy with Mr. Obama? Absolutely, but I also believe God put Him into office and the reason I believe God did so was because since as far back as Jimmy Carter, but more recently with Reagan, Clinton and both Bushes, this country has consistently pushed Israel to the back of the bus. I believe that it is this position – that has really come to the fore with the Obama administration by the way – that has brought God’s ire on this country. As I’ve said a number of times (and even in the post that you read), supporting Israel is important for no other reason than Genesis 12, 15, and 17. In my opinion, I believe God has given us a man which much of this country has been pushing for because of their turning their back on Israel. I also believe that it has served as a sign for Christians to wake up and start praying. Frankly, even apart from his position on Israel, I cannot see anything good that Mr. Obama has accomplished. Moreover, I really don’t think he’s too terribly interested in trying to turn the economy around. He certainly has not produced any kind of a plan that would help us to understand his ideas. Even Democrats are now starting to say that. Besides increasing our national debt by spending us into oblivion and creating Obamacare, which will require trillions in new taxes, what has been accomplished that has benefited Americans?

I further believe that God placed Mr. Obama in office to show this nation what would become of us if we continued on our present course where Israel is concerned. It is my contention that if this nation’s leaders supported and were allied with Israel, instead of standing against Israel, God would bless this nation. But the fact that we have a president who prefers to side with Muslims and Islam – and makes no secret of it – it puts this nation at odds with what I believe to be God’s plan in the Middle East. Again, these are my opinions.

I realize you and many others will likely disagree with me on that. That is your right and before anyone else accuses me of trying to be the “moral compass” for this nation, that’s garbage. In this blog, I simply present my opinions, Mike. That’s all they are – opinions. As you’ve shown (and I’ve allowed), you disagree with my opinion. I would have preferred your initial remark to have had at least a semblance of intelligence and a modicum of decency and respect to it rather than simply denigrate, but that’s your choice in how you wish to express yourself. I can get as sarcastic as the next person, but it solves nothing and does not further the conversation.

So yes, I believe that God is not happy with the way our leaders treat Israel, the nation that is the apple of His eye and the nation that He will defend when there just happens to be a Northern Invasion against Israel one day in the future out of the blue (Ezekiel 38-39). I have an obligation to support Israel because it was from Israel that Jesus was born and it is from and through Him that salvation has been extended to humanity. As the apostle Paul says in Romans, I owe a debt to Israel because of that alone.

Oh, and by the way, it isn’t just Christians who live in the alleged “Bible belt.” They have not segregated themselves off from non-Christians like Muslims do whenever they move into a new country. Christians live in this world, but they are not really part of it. They live in Washington, DC and work in our government, so your snide attempt to poke fun at Christians really amounts to nothing. Muslims on the other hand, quickly establish areas that are essentially “Muslim Only” and Sharia law applies. That’s starting to happen in this country in places like Murphreesboro, Dearborn, and elsewhere. As things ramp up there, you’ll see what’s happening, but you can always go to the “Act for America!” website to learn more about that (http://actforamerica.org/).

Yeah but I didn’t ask you, Matt.

Your opinion doesn’t negate the potential truth.

I’m not posting your other post, which is long on air and short on substance not to mention your vapid accusations have been responded to many times by others. To reiterate here the things that have been stated before would not convince you of anything. That means that like our friend Kendall, you’re just here to spew.

I find it difficult to believe that you have nothing better to do with your time then castigate me for my opinion.

I’m still waiting for an atheist to prove to me that God does not exist. Obviously you’ve found a way to prove it to yourself beyond doubt. Proving it to me shouldn’t be that hard.

You’re using arguments that are open-ended and inconclusive to prove that I’m wrong. You’re clearly happy with them but that’s only because you’re predisposed to an anti-supernatural bias in the first place. In that case it takes precious little to convince you that your views on religion are correct. Discussion with you and folks like you is thoroughly and unfortunately pointless.

      Hi Mike,

I always find it ironic that people like yourself go out of your way to submit statements that are, in the end, opinions, just like my statements are as well. Unfortunately, you present your opinion in arrogance, as if it is fact.

Like true leftheads, when they have nothing to say, they simply castigate and denigrate the other individual for their beliefs solely because they do not share the lefthead’s beliefs. It makes absolutely no sense but certainly, you’re entitled to it.
