Gingrich Says: “Palestinians” an Invented People

And I couldn’t agree more!  Of course, Iran wasted no time in sending a rebuke Gingrich’s way for the comment, but that’s too bad.  Iran has been wanting to rewrite history where the Holocaust is concerned, so why not try to rebuke someone for offering the truth about the “Palestinian” people who have been vying for their own state?

The trouble of course, is that the majority of the world believes that the Palestinians are a specific culture group, with a specific language and history.  None of that is true.

The Palestinian people are essentially a creation of Yasser Arafat, who wanted to find a way to squeeze Israel even more.  He did so by literally inventing Palestinians as a unique people group, presumably separate from all other Arab groups that were currently living in the Middle East.

Not more than forty years ago, anyone living in Palestine was considered Palestinian.  It did not matter if the person was Jew or Gentile (which includes Arab).  Anyone living in that area of the Middle East was simply and routinely referred to as Palestinian.

When Arafat waltzed onto the scene, he created a group of people he referred to as Palestinian and from an Arab culture, immediately dismissing all other Gentiles as well as Jews.  In reaction to this, then Prime Minister of Israel, Golda Meir stated, “There is no such thing as a Palestinian people.”[1]  What she meant of course is that as far as a separate culture or ethnicity, Palestinian did not exist. It referred to a place where people resided, not their ethnic background.

Of course, Meir’s comment was met with ridicule and charges of racism and it has remained so to this day.  The world for the most part, sides with Yasser Arafat and his “Palestinians,” completely ignoring the truth of the matter.  In fact, what is amazing is that though Israel is surrounded by Arabs, the world essentially believes that if not for Israel’s presence, the Middle East would be at peace with itself. That’s absolute garbage, but the fantasy rages on.

An article in the Washington Times stated that Gingrich has stated that “President Barack Obama’s effort to treat Palestinians as the same as the Israelis is “favoring the terrorists.” [2]  This is unfortunately, true, in my opinion.  I believe since Mr. Obama has taken office, he has done a great deal either directly or inadvertently supported the terrorist mentality.

Of course Palestinian officials were quick to respond.  “Palestinian official Nabil Abu Rdeneh on Saturday described Gingrich’s comments as “unfortunate” and called him “ignorant.” Spokesman for Gaza’s militant Hamas rulers Fawzi Barhoum says Gingrich displayed “genuine hostility” toward Palestinians.” [3]

No, the people who are ignorant are those who actually believe that the so-called Palestinians are a unique ethnicity or culture, deserving their own land or state.  People who refuse to support Israel are – in my opinion – completely ignorant.  They are ignorant of what God is doing and has promised to do in His Word; promises which have yet to be completely fulfilled.

There will come a time when God will fulfill His promises to Israel and that time will shock many people because they were blind to the truth.  The Arabs in the Middle East are ARABS.  They all share the same culture, language, and ethnicity.  As Golda Meir stated clearly, there is no such thing as a Palestinian.

But why allow facts to get in the way of the bias that most people have  deep within their hearts and mind where Israel is concerned?

Agree, that is not to deny the historic fact that many Palestinians (sorry Arabs who come from Palestine) have been deprived of homes that were in their familes for hundreds of years. In most cases, there has been no compensation, no right of return and some cases these Arabs are in fact Christians. That is not to deny that there are complexities, given arguably the Arabs started a war in 1948 and a price of losing that war was the fleeing or forceable expulsion of these Arabs from their homes inot refugee camps.

Even if Newt is correct, that does not simply solve the problem by implying as Arabs they can simply go and live in neighbouring Arab countries. That comment does not solve the difficult issue of rights of return or compensation for lost property, which although is complex and not ‘black and white’, is nevertheless a huge issue for formulating a final peace settlement.

It’s interesting how you have left God completely out of the picture here, Simon. I realize that you and I do not agree on what the Bible teaches with respect to Israel and the Land that God gave them through Abraham. However, the reality is that when Israel became a nation again in 1948, the Invented Palestinian people were offered a two-state solution AT THAT TIME which they roundly rejected. They preferred (and STILL prefer) to fight Israel in order to push them completely OUT of the Middle East. Too many people in the world like yourself do not get that. Just think. Had a two-state solution been accepted then, the Invented Palestinian people would have MORE land than they do today and many lives would not have been lost – both Jewish and Arab. None of that matters to people like yourself who have found some way to blame Jews for the problems in the Middle East.

You wrongly believe that if given the proper set of circumstances, the Invented Palestinians would JUMP at the chance to reconcile with Israel and live in harmony with them. While it happened briefly with Isaac and Ishmael (they put aside differences to bury their father Abraham), it will NOT happen with anyone in the Middle East and Israel. That is perfectly clear in Scripture.

You are looking at it purely from a human, pragmatic perspective. Yet, the Bible looks at it from God’s holy perspective. There is NO comparison at all.

In fact, it would appear that God is the One who brought the Jews back to Israel and that is clear throughout the book of Ezekiel. If God is the One who brought Israel back together, then consider YOUR position/beliefs in light of that. In essence, you are standing AGAINST God. Your position is no different from what most of the world thinks, including many within Christendom. That does not make it right. It simply makes it the majority in the human world. However, obviously God is THE majority in all things and He will bring things to fruition according to the perfection of His glorious will.

If Christians – and those who say they are Christians – would begin to see more of God’s hand in the world, and less of man’s, there would be a greater belief and emphasis in His Word and the completion of it.

Thanks for writing. Please take the time to read through the book of Ezekiel. You will actually find – should you read Ezekiel with an open mind and heart, asking for HIS understanding – that the entire issue IS completely “black and white.”
