Creating a Middle East Catastrophe…for What Purpose?

I note with interest that for decades, leaders of various countries have tried and failed to gain some type of peace accord between Israel and surrounding nations, who hate Israel’s presence, and wants Israel gone. No one has had any real success in that realm. Of course, people continue to try, including Mr. Obama.
One of the problems though is that as far as Mr. Obama is concerned, he views Israel as a nation that should not be there, a nation that is essentially trespassing. In other words, Mr. Obama has fully sided with the Arab nations that surround Israel.
If we look at history up to today, it is clear that no amount of expense, talks, threats, and energy has played out on the Middle East peace problem, all of it to no avail. The age-old problem of hatred that waxes strong in the Middle East seems to have only gotten stronger.
So what do you do when nothing seems to help? What is the next course of action when nothing that anyone has tried has seemed to make a dent in the problem? It seems that what history has always moved toward when talk does not work is war. War is the great eliminator. It does what words cannot do and it changes what opinions cannot change.
I am not saying that I agree with war, though I readily admit that at times, war seems to be the best option, or at the very least, having a strong military presence often precludes the need for actual war.
Consider this (and some would say I’m simply spitballing here). Let’s say all the talk, promises, gestures, threats, and everything else has made no change in the Middle East problem. This has continued for decades and while some scenarios have seemed to bring things to a close, there has come a time when everything has simply fallen apart. Nothing has ever worked to bring the Jews and the Arabs together. The animosity is too great between the two.
So what is left? Well, we know from Daniel 9:27 that the Antichrist will one day step up and make it possible for peace to be attained. This particular peace will be a false peace as well as short-lived. In fact, Daniel’s book speaks of the last “week” out of a total of 70 weeks. These weeks turn out to be periods of seven years. If the last week then is seven years and that week starts by the proposed peace-plan brokered by the Antichrist, then obviously there will be situations that occur, which lead up to that agreement that is supposed to usher in seven years.
But we have a situation on our planet in which nothing known to humanity has brought the two parties – Jews and Arabs – together to the bargaining table with successful terms being reached that satisfies both sides. It simply has not happened.
So what is left? Well, short of a smooth-talking individual who finds a way to sidle up to Israel and convince her that he has her best interests at heart, the only thing I can think of is war. War ups the ante. It creates a situation in which the true winners and losers are seen immediately. Guessing is gone. Only the facts remain.
In the world right now, parts of the Middle East are literally breaking up. We have seen the downfall of Egypt’s Mubarak. We are now watching things worsen in Libya. We have seen protests in Bahrain and elsewhere in parts of the Middle East.
Many within the Arab communities throughout the world believe that all this unrest in the Middle East will ultimately lead to Israel’s downfall. The stress of the situation will take its toll and it seems to be only a matter of time before Arab nations turn their attention to Israel, the tiny country that lies right smack in the middle of the Middle East.
If the current unrest in the Middle East will ultimately find a way to direct anger and venom toward Israel, then the natural question is…has the situation in the Middle East (as it stands now) been orchestrated by individuals who have the power and ability to create it? In other words, if there are individuals who want peace in the Middle East (their definition of peace, with Israel on the losing proposition), but nothing to date has been able to make that happen, then is it possible that these same individuals – who may be in the powerful positions of playing with lives and countries like chess pieces – may be working behind the scenes to create the tension in the Middle East so that it blows like a dormant volcano?
I think that is very possible. If we consider what has happened in the past weeks and month, we have seen one regime after another topple and fall, with more on the brink. This civil unrest is recreating a landscape where democracy may have absolutely no chance of gaining a foothold. In fact, it is very possible that radical factions like the Muslim Brotherhood will find a way to the top, fending of all other advances by those who want democracy.
The more the radical element of Islam gains notoriety, the greater the chances that these same factions will come against Israel. This groundswell of support for radical Islam may engender the type of victorious attitude that will prompt Islam to make what they consider to be the final push against the Jewish “problem.”
If this is the case, then who is behind it? Without naming names, all one has to do is search the news over the past several years to see who has made statements against Israel. Who will benefit from Israel’s absence? Who will make great strides without Israel to act as a wall of defense?
Is it possible that things are working out behind the scenes to artificially create the upheaval that certain individuals and powers believe is necessary to destroy what they see as the main problem in the Middle East? I believe it is very possible. While I also believe that God has all things under control and whose plans are certain, I equally believe that He allows or even designs the rise to power of certain individuals and nations in order that His purposes will be fulfilled.
The Six-Day War was not predicted in Scripture, unless we say that in general, it was seen in Daniel 9:26 and in the Olivet Discourse. Though not specifically named, certainly it was part of the “wars until the end” drama that has and will continue to play itself out prior to the Lord’s return.
Could the Middle East be heading toward another war that will either be preempted by God (if the Northern Invasion) or by the Antichrist (if it is the means to false peace and the covenant he breaks)? I think it is possible and likely.
If you consider it, many leaders of many nations for decades have done their best to bring peace to an area of the world that seems to resist it at every turn. The only thing that may be left to do (as far as these leaders are concerned) is to either destroy Israel, or attempt to destroy her. In either case, this may put Israel in the position of believing that real peace could be at hand. Never mind that the holder of the agreement none other than the son of Satan himself.
Of course, God knows what will occur in the Middle East area even in this latest problem of wars and rumors of wars. He has also shown us the road map and though He has not provided us with every step that will be taken leading up to the inauguration of the seven-year peace treaty, it seems reasonable to state that what is now happening in Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Tunisia and other places near there are in the plan and certainly, something will come to the top. That something will put us at least one step closer to the Tribulation that is described in detail in numerous books of God’s Word.
Folks, it is no time to be sleeping. It is a time to be about the Father’s business and while the tornado swirls around us, our one prime goal should always be the same: to reach out to all that are lost with the gospel of Jesus, the Savior and Lord of all who call upon His Name.
There is a tremendous amount of activity happening in this world. In fact, so much is happening so quickly, that it is very difficult to keep up with it. I’ll have more to say on these things in the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned!
