Our Nation’s Leaders and Their Failure to Support Israel

May 4, 2011 at 12:17 PM 10 comments

I was reading an article by J. R. Church on Psalm 109 this morning and he breaks it down to point out that the Psalm could have significance way beyond David’s time.  In fact, he points out that the leader that David is referring to in Psalm 109:21-24 may be the Antichrist that will step onto the world’s stage at some point in the future.  This leader is described as having Satan at his right hand in the Psalm.

Of course, David also had himself in mind and very likely the nation that he ruled over at the time.  We understand from Scripture that David’s heart was essentially in tune with God’s will.  Of course, we also know of David’s terrible failures in which he committed adultery with Bathsheba and in an attempt to cover that sin, found a way to have her husband Uriah killed in battle.  These actions were without doubt terrible and though he fully repented, the consequences of his multiple and escalating sins did not go unpunished.  The child he conceived with Bathsheba died after birth.  The House of David remained in turmoil for the remainder of David’s life and beyond.  Sin has natural consequences that God does not often keep from occurring.

However, it can still be said of David that he loved God with all of his heart, mind, and soul.  He longed to simply sit in the Tabernacle of the Lord to inquire of Him (Psalm 27:4).

But here in Psalm 109, David prays not only for himself and Israel, but also against the leader who stands against Israel.  The tragedy here is that we see a growing hatred toward Jews in general and Israel specifically in these days.  It is clear that with respect to the United States, with our current administration, there seems to be a greater role in leading the United States away from its support for Israel.  That much seems very clear and that would be something that those who are opposed to Israel would agree with without exception.  They see (and are glad) that the current president of the United States has embarked on a relatively new road; one that is decidedly different from the road that the United States has been on for decades.  We have gone from a nation that has supported Israel to one that stands opposed to her.

This particular administration has led the way among other nations (or at least willingly joined other nations) in pursuing a policy that would divide Jerusalem, giving the eastern portion of the city (the old city) to Arabs.  Just today I read that France and United States have just about joined one another at the hip in their willingness to declare a Palestinian state ahead of Mr. Netanyahu’s visit.

In Psalm 109, David takes the time to pray against the leader he refers to in the Psalm.  He asks God to literally blot out his name from future generations and in essence, to frustrate that leader’s plans.  He asks that God would do this for the sake of God’s Name (Psalm 109:21) and for no other reason.

J. R. Church points that while David’s prayer may seem to be harsh and even unforgiving, the reason why David’s prayer is absolutely appropriate has to do with the fact that the leader David is referring to is leading an entire nation astray.  It is the leader who has lied about Israel and Jews in general.  It is the leader who has the devoted ear of the media and those around him so that people hang on his every word.  It is the leader who essentially brings a nation to the point of sin by bringing that nation that he leads against Israel.

It reminds me of the question that Abraham asked the Angel of the Lord in Genesis 18, if God would destroy the cities if 50 righteous were found in them?  The answer is no.  Abraham continues asking until he has asked whether or not the Lord would destroy the cities if only 10 righteous people were found to be living there and again, the answer is no, the Lord would not destroy them if 10 righteous souls were there.

As I was thinking about this as I sat on my patio watching the mother duck (Bobo) and her 10 ducklings swim around our pond, I could not help but think that because of this administration’s policies, this nation is coming under God’s curse.  The president of the United States has taken a course that literally defies God.  God will not sit still for this and whether this sounds crazy or ludicrous to anyone or not, I firmly believe that we are experiencing floods, earthquakes, tornadoes and the like because God is warning us that He has noticed this nation’s course and will not stand for it.

Yesterday, I received an e-mail from another J. R.; this one from Canada (J. R. Hall of Berean Watchmen) and in it, he shared with us that the Prime Minister of Canada – a Christian – has promised to defend Israel as a friend.  If anyone attacks Israel, Canada will see that as an attack on Canada and will rise to Israel’s defense.

Of course the difference between the leader of Canada and the leader of the United States is that the leader of Canada – Prime Minister Stephen Harper – has made statements such as this:  “In this ongoing battle, Canada stands side-by-side with the State of Israel, our friend and ally in the democratic family of nations… We have stood with Israel even when it has not been popular to do so, and we will continue to stand with Israel, just as I have always said we would.”

Stephen Harper is a Christian.  The president of the United States says he’s a Christian, yet everything he does negates that claim.  In fact, from his words and actions alone, it is easy to determine that at the very least he is an Islamic-sympathizer and very likely a Muslim himself.

It seems clear enough that Canada will continue to be blessed because of their affirmation that they will continue to support the nation of Israel.  People like to point out the sins of Israel.  They say that because of her human rights violations, Israel should not be supported.  First of all, there is no nation on earth that is devoid of human rights violations.  Secondly, when God told Abraham that all the nations of the earth would be blessed through him and that those who bless Israel He will bless and those who curse Israel He will curse was said with no preconditions (cf. Genesis 12, 15, and 17).

It is not up to us to condemn Israel for any perceived human rights violations.  It is up to God to bring judgment upon them if He so chooses to do that.  Our job is to support Israel simply because God said we should.

It is in light of the statements and position of Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada that I believe God has emboldened me to pray the prayer that David prayed in Psalm 109 with reference to the leader he was referring to in that Psalm.  With that in mind, I will close with a prayer that I am praying and I would encourage you – if you love God and wish for His purposes to be brought to fruition in all things – that in your spiritual communion with God, you pray something similar.  Do what David did.  Ask God to defend Israel and to vanquish the leader that has set himself against them.

Our Father and our God, I give thanks that you are righteous, holy, and just.  I thank you that you will allow no evil to come to Israel because you yourself have a plan for them.

I ask Father, that you would confound the policies and aspirations of the current administration of our country.  Please God, bring his purposes to nothing, though Satan may be the strength at his right hand.

Bring him down to the dust so that he will not only lose ground with those who currently support him, but will be ultimately cast out of office with the next election.  May his name become anathema and may his name be remembered no more.

Father, I ask that you will confound the enemy of Israel for the sake of your holy Name.  I believe that our nation is coming under great judgment because under the current leadership, we have wandered terribly from your appointed path.  Yet Lord God, there are many in this land that are righteous.  There are many of us who have purified ourselves by obeying the truth (1 Peter 1:22) and because of this, you have made us righteous.  It is because of your grace, your tremendously unending portion of love toward us that the righteousness of God the Son has been imputed to our accounts.

We can say that we are righteous not because of any works we have done, but simply because as you have opened our eyes to the truth of Jesus Christ, we have been able to embrace that truth.  It is that truth that has not only made us free, but declared us righteous.

Father, because of the righteous in this land, we ask that you cease your judgment upon it.  We ask that the current leader who is moving decidedly away from you and your purposes would find “…none to extend mercy unto him: neither let here be any to favor his fatherless children.

“Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.  Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

“Let them be before the LORD continually, that He may cut off the memory of them from the earth.  Because he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted [Israel], that he might even slay the broken heart.

“As he loves cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delights not in blessing, so let it be far from him.  As he clothes himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

“Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.  Let this be the reward of our adversaries from the LORD, and of him that speaks evil against” your people.

Lord, the failure of this nation to defend and protect your people of Israel is without conscience.  It is unpardonable and judgment is fully deserved.  Yet Lord, I plead with you that for the sake of your holy Name, you would bring the leader of this nation down to the dust in his spirit, so that he will understand that there is One who far surpasses him in every way.

You have allowed the leader of this country to continue.  He is not only stiff-necked like Pharaoh of old, but full of himself.  In his sin, he moves this country from its foundations.  Father, speak and do not be silent.

We know that you protect the righteous.  Psalm 34 says “The poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.  The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.  O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.  O fear the LORD, ye His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him,” (Psalm 34:6-9).  We know that you do not allow your righteous to see death, nor do you mistreat us.  Our thankful gratitude goes to you, Father.

Yet our country will not survive under the current leadership.  At every turn, we are being lied to as our adversary plots against you.  He has touched the apple of your eye and because of it, he must be corrected.

Father, we lift up our praise and thanksgiving to you for the judgment you are sending on this nation.  May it work to wake every righteous person in Christ throughout this land so that together our prayers might storm the gates of heaven.  Please Father, bring us back to the point where we can proudly say that America supports the people of Israel boldly and without reservation.  Help us to be like Canada who would not hesitate to pick up arms in defense of Israel if they come under attack.

Moreover, please do not by any stretch allow Jerusalem to become a divided city.  Jerusalem is YOUR holy city.  Israel is YOUR land.  Yes, we know that you will one day declare that it has become like Sodom and Babylon, yet that is for YOU to declare.  Now, we would ask that you would grant us this request; that you would destroy the plans and purposes of this administration whenever they are seen to come against you, your people, or your land.

We ask these things because of our spiritual union with Jesus, our God, our Savior, and our Lord.  Glorify yourself in and through us.  Allow your perfect will to be accomplished and we ask that you would stand against not this country, but the administration that is attempting to pull us further and further from the scope of your will.  Do not allow Satan to gain this victory!

We know that there is a time when your perfect will is going to be poured out onto this land and the entire world through Satan’s incarnate son.  We know that as terrible as that will be, the perfection of your will – every jot and tittle – will come to pass through the Antichrist and in spite of him.  This does not appear to be that time.  This appears to be a “dry run” for that upcoming time of horror when hell will empty itself on the denizens of the earth as they engage in judgments that YOU will cause; that stem from YOUR holy throne.

Father, be merciful to this nation.  Hold back your arm of judgment and direct that judgment against the administration that moves against you.  Bring this administration to nothing as you confound and confuse their plans.  Restore the beauty and might of this nation.  Redirect our gaze back to you.  Keep the powers of darkness away from influencing the leaders of this nation.  Bring them to a place of abject fear of you!  Cause them to cease their desperate measures to turn this nation against you and against Israel.

Thank you for hearing our prayer, Father.  Thank you that we not only can pray to you, but are encouraged to pray to you boldly, knowing that you hear us because of the righteousness that is part of our life due to the atoning work of Jesus.

May you be glorified in and through us.  May we become the wall that keeps Satan from moving forward with his diabolical scheme to destroy Israel.  Please Father, do NOT allow this nation to be the catalyst that harms Israel!  Do this for the sake of the righteous who live here and especially for the sake of your holy and matchless Name!  Amen.

Folks, I would encourage you to commune with God in this fashion.  Anyone who can look at the physical disturbances and weather problems that this nation is experiencing and does not see the hand of God in it is blind.  We are being judged and God can and will turn back the hand of judgment if we ask him to direct His efforts to the leaders of our nation who are doing everything they can to bring about the will of Satan and not God.

I fully believe that a concerted effort by God’s people asking God to intervene will bring about marvelous change.  The only way it would not is if this is how God is going to directly allow the Antichrist to step onto the stage.

The fact that Canada is so stalwart in their support of Israel gives me great hope!  God can still bring the changes necessary to allow the Antichrist to come to the fore and allow this nation to have leaders that fear Him!  Please join me in this type of prayer so that God will stay His hand of judgment and replace the current administration with an administration that seeks Him and supports Israel!  Please get on your knees now.

Ok, I agree we will not agree re eschatology. But just as a matter of pragmatics, what physically is Israel to do with the non-Jewish population, however described, that speaks Arabic as their first language and usually identify themselves as Palestinians? Are you saying they should be expelled from their current locations in Gaza and the West Bank and forced to live in Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan? I am pretty sure that these surrounding nations won’t take them, which is why Palestinian asylum seekers who are denied refugee status cannot be returned because they are effectively stateless. Doesn’t that create a practical problem for Israel?

What I’m saying is EXTREMELY simple, Simon. Israel should NOT be FORCED to give into the demands of the world over their land. Did I SAY Arabs should be expelled? Not at all. They want Israel to be expelled though. There is NO settlement that will occur that will EVER satisfy Arabs unless it includes Israel being expelled from the Middle East.

Why is THAT okay, but not the other way around with you and millions of people like you who do not have a clue?

Israel does not need to do anything with the non-Jewish population. It is the ARAB population that has been making extreme and unreasonable demands. At EVERY turn, Israel has tried to placate them, to no avail. I would strongly suggest you do some actual independent research on this, Simon, because you sound like every other individual who has come to believe the lie perpetrated by the enemy (both Arabs and Satan).

The problem for Israel is that aside from Canada, NO OTHER country supports her. Doesn’t THAT create a problem for Israel? Beyond this, why does a group that was fully created by Yassar Arafat NEED more land, when they are ARABS and can continue to live where they are now living or go to other Arab countries? That’s not good enough for them. They believe that they were actually in Israel’s land FIRST and in spite of what the UN provided in 1948 and the outcome of the Six-Day War in 1967, the entire world believes that Israel is WRONG. All of this is clearly spelled out in the book of Ezekiel (as well as others). Maybe instead of arguing with me about it, you should take the time to re-read Ezekiel, but this time, might I suggest that instead of viewing things allegorically for which there is absolutely NO reason to do so, try to read it and gain understanding from it with a literal (NOT literalistic) mindset. You will be surprised what you might find, however, since SDA theology is so ingrained in you, I doubt seriously that you will be able to get past it.

Once again, I see absolutely NO point to these continued debates with you. You are not interested in my opinion at all, and furthermore, you are not willing to thoroughly study Scripture regarding the situation. So what do we have? Stupidity. We have you stating an opinion (in the form of question(s) so that it appears as though you are interested in my opinion when in point of fact, you already believe what you believe and are stalwart in that opinion.

I have written books on this subject Simon. If you were really interested in my opinion, you’d read them. Oh wait, you probably don’t want to spend money on them. Wonderful. E-mail me your address, and I’ll send a few to you free of charge. Read them and then debate with yourself.

Like too many people in this world, Simon, you have no clue how things (or WHY) in the Middle East occur as they are occurring. I blame SDA eschatology, because if THAT was correct, you would understand the BIG picture. As it is, all you are doing is looking at this from a purely human point of view, fully devoid of any biblical meaning or understanding of the situation. Until you get THAT straight, this conversation is pointless. I’ve had too many times with people who know absolutely nothing about what God is doing in that area of the world. I am tired of the conversation. Are we done yet?

Pretty soon, I’ll be putting more information up on “Investigative Judgment” and the alleged plagiarism that Ellen G. White entered into in order to write her books. At that point, you’ll be back on familiar ground and though we will still disagree, you can spout off like some fount of wisdom from down under who believe he has all the answers to every alleged problem with SDA theology and its founder.

Great. Just make sure you bring actual facts to the conversation, Simon, and not the SDA party line.

No doubt, Israel deserves the right to exist, and to live in peace, security, stability and freedom. No doubt, it is the duty of the West to guarentee this for Israel. However, what about the Palestinian people, including Palestinian Christians (who make up to 10% of the population)? Don’t they deserve the same?

This is the problem with Seventh-day Adventist Eschatology. It is too deeply rooted in Covenant Theology which says that the Church has replaced Israel. The reality Simon, is that there is NO such thing as a Palestinian people made up of strictly Arabs. Years ago, ANYONE who lived in Palestine was called a “Palestinian,” until Yassar Arafat came along and created quite a coup by stating that the “Palestinian people” were Arabs, completely leaving Jews out of the picture.

Palestinians have NO special language specific to that group, nor do they have a specific culture. Israel is SURROUNDED with Arab nations and unfortunately, these Arab nations do not want Israel there AT ALL. They do NOT want an Israeli state and it’s that simple. This is why there will be NO peace in the Middle East for some time. When the Antichrist rises, he will create a false, temporary peace (cf. Daniel 9:24-27) and that is called the Tribulation period which will last seven years.

At the END of the Tribulation period, when Jesus returns physically, He will then actually create peace in the Middle East and will reign for 1,000 years from His “father” David’s throne in Jerusalem. Why does He need to reign physically? It’s really simple but I already know what SDAs believe (generally) about that. They view it allegorically, but in doing so, they miss a HUGE piece of the puzzle that can ONLY be fulfilled when/if Jesus reigns PHYSICALLY. I’ll let you do the research because I’m sure there is nothing I can say that would convince you that SDA is wrong about anything…so there is no point discussing it.

When the U.N. granted statehood to Israel in 1948, they (the Jews) had returned to the Land and there was essentially no one living there except Bedouins. The land was rocky, bare, and completely devoid of anything. In short order, once the Jews began reestablishing themselves, the land once again began to flow with milk and honey (that’s a metaphor by the way). It was THEN that the Arabs began to see the richness of the land and decided that Israel should not have it.

Moreover, Arab nations and groups are doing everything thing they can to erase any history of Jewishness in the eastern part of Jerusalem, which includes the Temple Mount. Mr. Obama is quite aware of the fact that eastern Jerusalem is important to both Jews and Muslims, but prefers to side with the Muslims stating that Jerusalem should be divided with the eastern portion given to Muslims, as if Jews never held that ground.

Countries like Syria, Iraq, Iran, Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and many others are controlled by an overwhelming Muslim/Arab population. Israel is one small piece of property in the Middle East. Yet, Arab Muslims control and own an overwhelming majority of land but they are not satisfied with that. They want Israel too. Ahmadinejad has stated repeatedly that he will not stop until the last Jew is gone from the Middle East.

No matter how often Jews have surrendered land to various enemy nations, those nations, though they promised they would stop shelling, have yet to do so.

In 1967, Egypt attacked Israel on the Sabbath without provocation. They, along with other countries surrounding Israel, gained the upper hand, killing thousands of Israeli soldiers and taking land during the first two weeks of fighting. Starting with the third week, Israel began to regain what she had lost AND began taking parts of the countries that were attacking her. Eventually, and in spite of the odds, Israel came out victorious and that was when they gained control of ALL of Jerusalem. From that point on, Jerusalem became a united city once again. On paper, Israel controls the Temple Mount and all of the old part of Jerusalem (the old city). Yet to keep peace, they allowed Arabs to continue to act as the peace-keeping force for the Temple Mount. This of course backfired, because Jews are often barred from entry to the Temple Mount and are often harassed and even arrested for such things as “praying” on the Mount (when Muslim/Arab guards see Jews moving their lips, they arrest them for praying).

Also following the Six-Day War, countries like Jordan and Syria began demanding the land that Israel “stole” during the war be returned. Yet, when Egypt and others attacked Israel on the Sabbath, and began killing Israeli soldiers and taking Israel’s land, do you think the world would have sided with Israel if she had “demanded” her Land back?

Ever since the Six-Day War, these countries have continued to lob rockets into Israel. They have demanded “their” land be returned and even when Israel has done that (though there was no legal precedent for doing so), these same Arab nations simply took the land back, moved into that newly acquired land and continued shelling Israel. The shelling has been going on non-stop for over thirty years.

Though the 1967 Six-Day War was not foretold in Scripture, the results of it clearly were in Ezekiel.

When you make comments as you have, you simply prove that you do not understand Scripture and the prophecies surrounding Israel.

The Arabs/Muslims have a LARGE part of the Middle East. They do not need Israel, but they WANT Israel. Again, there is NO SUCH thing as “Palestinian.” This is what ALL people who lived in Palestine were called (Jews, Arabs and other Gentiles) until Yassar Arafat came along and “created” the Palestinian nation made up of only Arabs.

It’s an absolute joke, but with it he has fooled the majority of the people on the face of the earth. You’re one of them.

Yes, Modres, I understand your position on Mary. IT is interesting to read the messages on wwww.petalsfromheaven.com So much what you say have been stated with clarity and insight as the messages whether they from Mary or not. She has stated that what she says is said with no authority on her own but from God. Through the past years she really hits hard on our Nation which she says was founded under God and his commandments; the only one in the world to be the moral leader of the world and the land of refuge for many but it is being forfeited by selfishness and disowning God. If anything just for interest check it out and follow the insights. Thank you for your fortitude and spiritual insights. I find much what you express to be on target.

I will pray as that our country will show mercy & support to Jerusalem. I also will pray that our Heavenly Father reveals to our president that he has chosen the wrong path. I’m definitely going to pray he is not elected again for a second term in the White House. There are many who are not paying attention and don’t realize the sins that he is responsible to date, i.e., abortion is a big one, killing innocent babies and future actions that may caused our country to become a socialistic nation.

The writer hits the nail 100%. I seems that he has read the messages of the Blessed Mother closely. Instead, the writer is a spiritual man who can see truth because
he has spiritual eyes. He is walking in the “LIGHT” and see “the darkness” because of the Light, “JESUS”. He is so accurate. As you recall me sharing with you
the past years that our Nation will see many more calamities to come if we as a Nation do not bend a knee. I only shared with you what the messages of the Blessed Mother
told us. The Blessed Mother does not lie. Expect more until America turns to God. If not, America is finished. If America does not turn back to God, the people in darkness,
which are many, will continue to believe the deceiver on Pennsylvania Avenue because they cannot see truth. Instead, they only feed their own selfish pride by supporting
a selfish man who mirrors their own narcissism. – Fr. David

Thanks for your comments, David. While you and I would disagree about Mary’s role in all of this (who is in heaven doing what the rest of the people in heaven are doing – worshiping the Lord), the reality is that America needs a leader who is not afraid to do what is right in God’s eyes.
