Alabama Judge Roy Moore and the ACLU

June 21, 2011 at 11:01 AM

You may recall the Alabama judge who was sued by the ACLU for daring to post the Ten Commandments in his courtroom and refusing to take them down.  He was stripped of his judgeship and apparently, these same forces are wanting to make it impossible for him to practice law as well.

The ACLU is allegedly there to protect people in this nation, however, what they seem to be doing for the most part, is protecting people from religion.  I have yet to hear of any ACLU involvement in situations involving Sharia law in the United States.  Isn’t Islam a religion to Muslims?  A number of groups within the U.S. are attempting to have courts use Sharia law to determine the outcome of their personal situations.  If a crime has been committed in the United States, the law that should oversee any court action should also be based on the U.S. Constitution, not Sharia law.  Where is the ACLU there?  [crickets chirping]

At any rate, he wrote a poem that I thought would be good to pass along.  There are too many people in this nation (and the world) who do not see the reality of their actions.  Unfortunately, we must ask the question, why has God’s judgment not come yet?  I think it has begun, but to a large degree, He withholds the full brunt of His anger because of the fact that His Church remains here.

I’m not talking about persecution toward Christians – that happens all the time around the world.  In fact, just within the last day or so a mob of 50 people literally beat the crap out of a Christian in India. [1]  Persecution is no stranger to authentic Christians.  It has always been there and always will be until the Lord returns.  Persecution against Christians has never been associated with God’s wrath, though many seem to think so.

When I talk of God’s judgment, I am referring to His wrath that He will pour out on humanity.  He has done this on numerous occasions in the past and will do it for a final time during the upcoming seven-year Tribulation period.  That entire period is understood as God’s wrath poured out on the people of this planet.  During that time, of course authentic believers will continue to be persecuted, but again, that is not God’s wrath.  That is a byproduct of preaching the authentic gospel of Jesus to a dying world.

I’ve often wondered how it is that Christians are singled out for persecution.  Well, obviously, when Christians are actually living for the Lord, their life speaks volumes.  That becomes a catalyst or magnet for all sorts of persecutions to occur against Christians.

But what about authentic Christians who are new to an area?  Never having been there before, they begin to see a resistance and they wonder why.  Well, the truth is that this – in my opinion – stems from the fact that the demons in the spiritual realm actually see that the Holy Spirit resides within us.  Though those within our world cannot see it, demons don’t miss it.  I believe because of this, they gather their demonic energy and attack us through human beings, who most of the time may have absolutely no clue why they are doing it.

Paul seems to make this very clear when he speaks of the fact that we are not wrestling against flesh and blood, but against powers and principalities (cf. Ephesians 6:12).  Like me, I’m sure many of you have experienced attacks out of nowhere.  We wonder, what was that all about?  We need to remind ourselves that Satan roams around seeking whom he can devour (cf. 1 Peter 5:8).

This persecution is, again, not to be associated with God’s wrath, though people who condemn premillennialism (and especially the PreTrib Rapture) like to associate persecution with God’s wrath, when the two are completely separate.

God allows us to be persecuted for our growth and for His glory and no other reason.  His wrath is for one purpose and one purpose only:  to show His absolute anger toward those who continue to defy Him and rebel against His purposes and the fact that He is God.

Judge Roy Moore’s poem is enlightening.  It speaks of just how far this country has gone from its original moorings and to think, it has only been a little over 200 years since this country was actually founded.  If those who founded this country could see where we are now, I doubt that they would have no words to describe what they felt.

America the beautiful,
or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims’ pride;
I’m glad they’ll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty;
your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
poisoned by cocaine
choosing to indulge their lusts,
when God has said abstain

From sea to shining sea,
our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God’s love
and a need to always pray

We’ve kept God in our
temples, how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
and Heaven is His throne.
We’ve voted in a government
that’s rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges;
who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer
in a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby
before he leaves the womb.

You think that God’s not
angry, that our land’s a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God,
from Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do,
but stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,
will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His holy face
and mend our evil way:

Then God will hear from Heaven;
and forgive us of our sins,
He’ll heal our sickly land
and those who live within.

But, America the Beautiful,
If you don’t – then you will see,
A sad but Holy God
withdraw His hand from Thee.
