Son of Hamas, Mosab Hassan Yousef Speaks On Terrorism

Last night, my wife and I had the privilege of listening to a man who was born into an Islamic family.  His father was one of the founders of Hamas.  He himself spent years growing up under the tutelage of Islam, deigning to do all that he could to not only please his parents, but his god as well.

He states without equivocation that of the 1.5 billion Muslims presently alive in this world, only a small handful truly understand the full portent of the Qur’an.  While a preponderantly large percentage of Muslims believe for instance that “jihad” references an inner struggle to overcome sin, the overwhelmingly clear meaning of “jihad” from the Qur’an and the Hadith is holy war against infidels.

Yousef states that it takes years to understand the Qur’an, but there is a very easy way to determine whether or not Islam is a religion of peace.  Since the highest model or example for every Muslim to follow is Muhammad, then all that is needed is to ask a set of questions about Muhammad:

1. Did Muhammad use the sword to spread his message?
2. Did Muhammad kill people who did not follow him as Messiah?
3. Did Muhammad marry a 9-year-old girl?
4. Did Muhammad kill his own people?
5. Did Muhammad rob/steal?

The answer to each of the above questions is a resounding YES.  Muhammad practiced all of the above-listed things.  Since we know that he did this, then the question “is Islam a religion of peace?” is automatically answered with an equally resounding NO.

If we contrast Muhammad to Jesus, we can easily and clearly see the difference.

1. Did Jesus use the sword to spread His message?
2. Did Jesus kill people who did not follow Him as Messiah?
3. Did Jesus marry a 9-year-old girl, or anyone for that matter?
4. Did Jesus kill His own people?
5. Did Jesus rob/steal?

The obvious answer to all of the questions is NO.  Jesus did none of these things.  Jesus’ message was truly a message of peace and reconciliation born of love.  He did not force Himself on anyone, nor did He kill people who did not accept Him.  He carried no weapon and remained at the mercy of His Father throughout His earthly life.

Comparing the kernel of Christianity with the kernel of Islam, it is clear that Islam was born in violence and remains violent today.  Christianity was born humbly, and the message is to love one another, as our heavenly Father loves us.

Today, Mosab Yousef is a Christian and while his road has been rough since then, he says he sleeps peacefully every night – unless he’s eaten some bad food – and has no worries about his own life.

Mosab Yousef spent time after becoming a Christian, within the Israeli Intelligence, which is akin to America’s FBI.  He saved countless lives because of what he knew about Hamas and was able to share with the Israeli government.

Because of his work with Israel, he was called a traitor to his own Arab people.  His Christian friends called him a turncoat, for helping Israel simply because he was trying to save lives.

The world today has little tolerance for Israel or Jews who are pro-Israel.  Many are not.  Just ask the editors of the New York Times.  These particular Jewish individuals heap all manner of abuse on Israel, blaming them for the fact that there is not yet peace in the Middle East.  It is weird to think that there are Jews against Jews.  One would think that even if a Jew does not live in Israel, the support for a Jewish state would exist simply because of common ethnicity.  This is not the case.

Mosab Yousef fully believes that Islam will crumble and is in fact doing so now.  He stated as much in 2008, but he was surprised to see how quickly it has begun to cave in on itself.

Yousef believes that Islam will disintegrate for two reasons:

1. Forces from outside, placing pressure on Islam, and
2. Forces from within, who see the reality of Islam compared to the freedom of the rest of the world

Yousef is well-traveled and understands the terrorist world better than many others.  He sees the infrastructure of terror within Islam and understands that as it becomes much more clearly visible to the free world, people will rise up against it.

Those within Islam still live as Muhammad lived 1,400 years ago.  Very little has changed.  Those within Islam are seeing the fallacies of Islam and are beginning to understand that they do not have to live in the past as they are doing.  It is as if these people have been caught in a time warp and only now are they realizing that the entire world moved way ahead of them.

The largest force within Islam is an ideology.  It is the idea of power, revenge, killing.  To the Muslim, Jesus did not die on the cross because this is a sign of complete submission, something that is foreign to the Muslim mind.  In fact, Yousef states that because Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross, they question how anyone could believe that their God would submit Himself to the whims of humankind, dying in the process.  This is weakness in its lowest form.

What Muslims fail to realize is that it was not the nails that kept Jesus on the cross.  It was His love for humanity that did that.

This is the message that Muslims need to be made aware of; that Jesus, not Muhammad, loved us that He was willing to die in order that we might have life.  Mosab Yousef wants to liberate the people of Islam through education.  He wants them to understand the truth about their prophet, Muhammad.  In doing so, he wants them to understand the truth about Jesus, not the “truth” that one Muslim tells another Muslim, based on the Qur’an or other Islamic writings.  Yousef wants them to know the truth about Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

It is difficult for the Muslim’s mind to grasp the concept of Christian love and Mosab laments that it is unfortunately not routinely seen within the Christian community toward Muslims.  This fact is keeping Christendom from making true inroads into the Muslim world for the purpose of liberating these people by introducing them to the only wise God, Jesus.

Yousef states that he is a Jesus Christ follower, as opposed to merely being a Christian.  While I understand what he is saying, being a follower of Jesus is often misunderstood in today’s world.  It is something that is housed within the confines of the Emergent Church.  Mosab Yousef wants people to know that he is not vested in religion, but in dedicating himself to following the One who grants eternal life.  I get it.  He truly wants to follow Jesus, not with ideas, but with specifics.

Mosab Yousef has been raised up by God to expose the true nature of Islam.  It is a difficult road.  As far as his parents are concerned, he is dead.  He did recently speak with his sister and tried desperately to explain to her the truth about Muhammad, quoting not only from the Qur’an, but from other Islamic writings.  She denied that what Mosab was saying, was true.  It is a very difficult thing for a Muslim who has been brainwashed to consider the actual truth.  We know that like anyone else, their eyes are open to the truth only as God awakens them to it.

Islam is largely a political system, one that is protected through power and violence.  Yousef says that the political power structure set up by Muhammad 1,400 years ago, is now collapsing in the Middle East.  He guarantees that the revolution that is now playing out in the Middle East was not begun by the Muslim Brotherhood.  He does admit that they tried desperately to hijack it, though there are too many young Muslims who are resisting that takeover.

The dictators like Gaddafi, Mubarak, and others in the Middle East are simply modern-day Muhammads, minus the prophet status.  They are ruling as Muhammad ruled.  They are treating their people as Muhammad treated his.  There is no difference.  This is why those political systems are crumbling to the ground because people want freedom.  They want the opportunity to choose for themselves.

Yousef relates a story about Muhammad that is interesting.  Apparently, there were some followers who demanded a sign or miracle from Muhammad.  Jesus and others did miracles as a sign that they were prophets (from the Muslim perspective).  It was only right that Muhammad produce a miracle as well.

Shortly thereafter, Muhammad related the story that he had flown on a donkey from Mecca to the Temple Mount.  At that point in history, there was nothing there on the Temple Mount, except for rubble and animals.  Allegedly, Muhammad’s flight on his donkey took place at night and there were no witnesses…except the donkey.

The sad fact of the matter is that Muhammad’s followers accepted this story as “good enough” and took that to be the miracle they needed to “see” in order to believe him to be a prophet.  For 1,400 since, no one was allowed to question anything about Muhammad.  To do so meant death.

Mosab laments the fact that if someone draws an illustration of Muhammad, they will be killed.  What for?  It is a drawing, says Mosab!  To this end, Mosab wants to film a movie about the life of Muhammad.  He of course knows the risks, but he desperately wants to educate the people of Islam so that they can see what their prophet was truly like.  He hopes that this will cause them to seek the real truth about Jesus as well.

We need to pray for Mosab Yousef.  His is a dangerous mission.  However, we know that he will live on this planet for as long has the Lord has given him time.  He specifically asked that we pray for him, so that he will be reminded to pray more because he says he does not pray enough.

Mosab Yousef is not concerned for his safety.  His concern is for those of Islam who are kept in chains of darkness and are not aware of it.  Let’s keep Mosab Yousef in our prayers as the Lord continues to work through him to set the prisoners of Islam free.
