Rep. Peter King Wants to Throw Book at NSA Whistleblower

Rep. Peter King wants to throw book at NSA whistleblower. Sometimes, I have to wonder what some of these Congressmen have for brains. Normally, I think that Rep. Peter King does a decent job going after the sewage that’s hidden under layers of dirt in our federal government, though when he finds it, he doesn’t seem to know what to do with it. However, with this latest bit of news regarding King and what he wants, I’m left scratching my head.

If we look at Private Bradley Mansfield, who is said to have handed over a ton of secrets that were published by WikiLeaks, and compare his actions to that of Edward Snowden (the NSA whistleblower), there are really two uniquely different situations. The main difference is what Mansfield leaked info that harmed American personnel. Snowden leaked info that shed light on the federal government’s overreach and penchant for illegally spying on AMERICANS. How do you compare one to the other?

The whole situation is interesting, to say the least. King and others want Snowden extradited from Hong Kong, charged, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. King’s main concern seems to be found in his statement, “This is a matter of extraordinary consequence to American intelligence.” I guess the revelation about how much our government is spying on its citizens and lying about it means nothing to King. No, it’s more important to bring Snowden to justice. That’s something I’m sure everyone in Congress can get behind, except possibly a few true conservatives.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) said “the national security leaks would endanger American lives.” He also noted that “the leaker had other ways to bring about a change in policy.” You know, like Snowden could have “come to the committees.” Uh…sure. That would have solved things like it did with the Benghazi whistleblowers, huh?

We’ve seen how normal citizens are treated by those who sit on the House Ways and Means Committee as well as other committees. We’ve also seen how whistleblowers are treated as well by this same group.
