Rest in the Lord

My wife and I watched (or rather, listened to), a recent audio sermon from John MacArthur. The title was strange – Something Terrible is Coming to the Planet! – but overall, the sermon itself was extremely uplifting.

The focus of MacArthur’s message was that in spite of everything that’s happening in the world that may appear to us to be evil, corrupt, bad, and simply counterproductive to society, the Lord is fully in control. This is not a fatalistic approach to life – “woe is me, all is bad, nothing can be done” – but a call to give glory to God for what HE, not Satan is accomplishing!

It is very difficult as a Christian to see through the darkness to the light that God provides. I don’t mean that in any “new age” sense at all. God is Light. In Him is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). God exposes the darkness by being Light. We tend to lose sight of that when darkness seems to overtake us.

We are living in really an unprecedented time of evil. Most of us know that while Coronavirus is a real health threat, it is being over-hyped and overblown to be something that it is not. We are being told to fear it at every turn. We are being hit with all forms of brainwashing – wear a mask, wash your hands, cough into your arm, stay at least six feet away from people, take the vaccine when it becomes available, etc., etc., etc. The role of the media and talking heads seems to be one that is complicit with the powers that be who want to enslave us and the world.

We are also being told that herd immunity cannot work until a vaccine is available. Initially, we were told herd immunity would not work at all and anyone who tried to say otherwise was panned, censored, banned and even fired for daring to go against the chosen narrative. Now, herd immunity is being discussed but only in terms of an alleged connection with the coming CV-19 vaccine.

Ask any epidemiologist who is not on the elite’s payroll and they’ll tell you the truth about herd immunity, which has worked for centuries. All of a sudden, herd immunity now needs a boost from a vaccine that Dr. Fauci originally said would be only 25% effective at best, but has now come around to say that it’ll likely be 50% effective? Interestingly enough, the FDA doesn’t normally approve vaccines unless they’re have at least a 50% efficacy. It’s also interesting to me that we are being warned of a “second wave” of CV coming. Why? Who ever heard of a second flu wave during any flu season? I’m praying that their efforts to release another version of CV or whatever it is will be thwarted? Care to join me in that prayer? God can certainly say “no,” can’t He? But maybe He won’t say that. Maybe He’ll agree to it.

In spite of all this and the potential lies we are hearing, what matters most though is who God IS and what He is accomplishing. Would you agree with that?

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. Matthew 24:7 KJV; emphasis added

Notice in the above text, Jesus warns that among other things, “pestilences” will occur throughout the earth. According to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary, the term “pestilence” means, “a contagious or infectious epidemic disease that is virulent and devastating.” [1]

Jesus did not tell us who or what would cause the famines, pestilences and earthquakes in His Olivet Discourse teaching above. By the way, the Olivet Discourse is speaking about the things that would be happening at the end of the Church Age, of which we are living right now. Some of what He talks about only happens inside the coming Tribulation period, yet in front of us.

How did CV-19 become an outbreak? We’ll probably never know the truth. One Chinese epidemiologist has just come out to say that it was created in a lab and released. Interestingly enough, her Twitter account was suspended for violating “community standards.” It’s quite obvious that censorship is needed by the Left to maintain control of the narrative.

But again, should this matter to us? Not really, because as John MacArthur says so beautifully, God is still in control, isn’t He? God’s purposes and plans march onward. He allows or directs things that occur in this world. He allowed Satan to fall and become the most diabolical, fallen angel, who continues to lead his minions against all of God’s purposes. We know that Satan cannot succeed and even when he appears to win minor battles (as in the case of Job), it’s clear that Satan is on a leash and even when he attempts to do his worst, he still manages to bring glory to God.

So, our response to this pandemic called CV-19 should be what? Clearly, we should not worry. We should not imagine that the world is ending. While on one hand, it is leading to that point, it is not there yet. The point is that in the midst of this health problem, continued government corruption, and the evil we see in America’s cities (riots, looting, arson, attempted murder/murders along with all the rest including deliberately setting fires in Oregon and Washington), God is still in control.

There is no way that humanity can continue to rebel against God, attempt to throw off the chains and cords of God’s Law (Psalm 2), and not eventually pay the price for that rebellion. It cannot continue unabated forever and I believe what we are seeing in society is the condemnation of God coming back on the countries of this world who have done everything they can to remove God from the public square.

It was only 100 years or so ago that Creationism was taught in schools as truth. Look what’s happened since then? God is out. Lies are in. Satan is being elevated to heights that are equal to what ancient civilizations were known for then.

But in spite of all of this, the real question to everything we face is this: what is our response to God? That’s the most important question we can answer right now and every day.

After listening to MacArthur’s sermon (though it is a bit longish, it doesn’t seem long), I’ve recommitted myself to memorizing Scripture that will help me to be mindful of God, His power, His plans, His purposes and His love for me and for the people of this world. Though most have and will continue to reject His love, that love continues because today is the day of salvation.

To that end, my wife and I are memorizing Psalm 37:7-11, which says this:

7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!
8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.
9 For the evildoers shall be cut off,
but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.
10 In just a little while, the wicked will be no more;
though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.
11 But the meek shall inherit the land
and delight themselves in abundant peace.

Doesn’t that say a great deal? In times of desperation and trouble, our job is to be still before Him. That is not saying (as many within the Contemplative Prayer movement claim), that we are to still our minds so that we are actually thinking nothing so that God can “speak” to us! That’s ridiculous and never does Scripture tell us to do that. In fact, just the opposite is true that we are to sing songs, repeat Scripture and fill our minds with uplifting truth (Philippians 4:8).

Psalm 37 is telling us to calm ourselves before God. This only happens when we focus on Him, His attributes, His power, His omniscience, and His glory. While we are focusing on Him, we are learning to wait for Him to do what He plans on doing. We should not worry at all, though this is difficult. Why? It is difficult because we get caught up in day to day living and the problems associated with that and we tend to focus on them. But by redirecting our focus on God, those problems fade, replaced with a greater awareness of God and His involvement in our lives.

If you look at the above verses, they provide a summation of life on earth, God’s purposes that are being fulfilled and the fact that there will come a time when evil people will be no more. This is what we should be focusing on because when we do, we learn to praise Him for who He is and what He is accomplishing and we also then begin focusing on our main purpose for being here, which is found in Matthew 28, the Great Commission.

I would encourage you to listen to MacArthur’s sermon and share it with family and friends. There’s so much we do not and cannot ever understand about God, what He’s doing, what He’s bringing about. We are puny, finite. Yet, too often we believe God owes us an explanation. He owes us nothing and we’d best learn that sooner than later. He didn’t even owe it to us to die on our behalf so that we might have eternal life. Yet, He did that, didn’t He?

God is so far above us, it is difficult to understand why He would even take notice of us. Yet, the Bible tells us that He loved us so much, He was willing to die that we might live.

Choose this day and every day whom you will serve!
